Cotto fought well but Mayweather outboxed him, just as we all knew he would. Cotto did very well to put pressure on Mayweather, but in the end, Mayweather made cotto miss and landed too many quality shots of his own for a judge to give it to Cotto, especially in the second half of the fight. Be realistic.
You do realize people have been saying this since the days of Joe Louis, you cant kill a sport as godly as boxing no matter how badly some people want it to die.
of course its not gonna die altogether, but back then there was no UFC taking all of boxing viewers and PPV shares. also, there's a lack of American talent, cuz all those athletes that used to become boxers back in the day are now becoming football players and MMA fighters. look, i love boxing, but its a dying sport now more so than ever, thats a fact. and by "dying" i dont mean cease to exist, i mean its becoming more and more irrelevant to the general public.
I don't really feel like I'm underestimating him. Pacquiao is the only person I would put above him. He's fast enough to catch him and skilled enough to take him out. I hope they fight, the sport needs that.

That's actually one of the things that has hurt boxing the most. Both my dad and grandfather used to box and really follow the sport and they both say it was so much easier for people to keep up with before it was all HBO and PPV. At a minimum they used to replay the fights the following morning for people who missed them. It's a great sport, and it should be more accessable.Will probably go MW but should be good. I hate how boxing is on HBO and not mainstream sports channels like ESPN

You have to build a following for your sport and the only way to do that is to give people enough content they can watch on their normal tv, even network TV, is important. UFC is doing it with fox and I guarantee it grows their sport. I realize you can find boxing on regular cable but also it isn't going to be a big fight.
Pretty much, yeah Fox is a big sports channel and will definitely help UFC I'm sure. It's one reason why wrestling(fake wrestling WWE stuff) is big because of all the exposure and channels it's on. I think whoever is in charge of boxing is really limiting the exposure of their sport. People say it's just not the same anymore as it was during the Ali era.
The problem is that nobody is in charge. You have so many promoters and organizations. WBA, WBF, WBO, IBF, all crown champions. Nobody wants four answers to the question "who is the heavyweight champion of the world?" The other thing that can be said about boxing is that it's only struggling bad in the US. It's still doing well overseas, which conincidentally is where the heavyweight ranks are being dominated. Boxing has always lived and died on the heavyweights here in the US.
Yeah the lighter classes do get some love, I mean people know who Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao (the fighter you mentioned), and De La Hoya, are but they will never get the kind of attention a heavyweight like Tyson or Ali did. I do follow the sport as close as I can. Both my dad and grandfather fought as amateurs and I was training but the gym I went too did not do so well due to lack of local interest. It's a fun sport and I really wish I could have been alive during it's best days.
