I have an idea that would make the national fighting game rankings more accurate. I brought this up when I was discussing it with Bill the other day.
Right now the only way to obtain points is to place top 8 at a major. While this is good, I think it creates unfair scenarios such as the one below:
Player A places 9th in 5 majors. He is not in the national fighting game rankings because only top 8 receive points.
Player B places last place in 4 majors, but places 8th in one of them. He is eligible to be in the national fighting game rankings and is above player A because of how the scoring works.
Now I'm sure most can agree that Player A is an overall better player than Player B for his consistent places in majors. But going by the national fighting game rankings, Player B is considered to be the "better" player. I think this is an issue that causes some parts of the list to become inaccurate. Having players like JT Circus who were in the NFG for months when he didn't even play the game or attend majors was also silly at one point.
What do I propose as an idea for a solution?
First, players would ALWAYS receive points regardless of where they place in a major. Last place in a major is one point, for example.
Second, there should be two different rankings. The first being "current ranking" and the second being "overall ranking" next to each player's name.
"Current Ranking" would be similar to how it is now. In that it displays the points of current players who place in recent majors and remain active. Points for majors after a while will disappear, and players who become inactive will slowly have points deducted over time.
"Overall Ranking" would be what the player has done through out his tournament career at majors. It would have all his points from the first major he attended, to the very last one he attended. This way PL, for example, would still retain his EVO points in this category while simultaneously being noticed as a player who has had a strong showing and impact.
