It’s Hollywood as well.
As I said, the gaming community and beyond. For games, I typically do follow western games only.

The genderswaps in MK1 for instance alone are ridiculous for example...
While I personally prefer the characters from the Alternate Timeline, these swaps didn't personally bother me. To each their own.

Gender swap isn't a new thing,
Yup, I remember it from older sci-fi and such decades ago.

Whaat, do tell more?
It's a super long story, but basically, back in the MK9 era, the seeding for tournaments used to be done by individual people who often just picked whoever they felt was better and gave them seeds. There was a ranking site called "NFG", and it was really bad, and didn't understand our scene, so it would sometimes rank a local and a major equally, etc.

So I decided to build a better system, so that we could have some kind of results-based rankings, rather than it just being arbitrary. And after I built it, we talked about running a version of it here on TYM that everyone could use.

Then a number of people decided to put their personal egos above doing what was best for the scene, and the whole thing turned into infighting and flaming between various parties. Back then we had a Skype group with a lot of top players in it, so I held 2 conference calls with a bunch of the top players to work through it, and the players spent the entire time just yelling at each other.

And certain people then decided to trust Jaxel for the system here, which completely fell apart and then Jaxel publicly imploded. So months and months of work basically went down the drain. But it was fun for a while :)

It is better this way
She kinda sucks tbh

Also she supported The Marvels and urged fans to turn out for it. The marvels is like one of the worst performing marvel films ever. She must like things that fail.
Look at what she actually wrote though. Batgirl New 52 was really good and wasn't particularly "woke", as Batgirl herself regularly came up short and demonstrated a lot of character flaws. She's the real deal.

Fuck the Marvels though lol that movie was ass

Obviously it can be a longer discussion with lots of nuance, but my take:

  1. I don't think NRS, or Hollywood, or Western game developers have some "Woke Agenda" they're trying to push or force into games, at least not in some nefarious way of taking marching orders from AOC or anything like that.
  2. However, companies are also generally trying to float along with current popular culture trends and societal norms, because that's what drives sales. MK itself is a perfect example of this.
  3. Media companies are constantly looking for ways to innovate and tell new stories to try and stay fresh and relevant
  4. With 2 and 3 taken together, it makes sense that we're starting to see more diversity, and in the case of re-booted stories, more gender swapping.

Overall, I don't think that this is a bad thing. We live in a diverse society, and I think the stories we tell, the media we consume, should reflect that. And I think it's more interesting when it does, especially when it does nothing to harm what came before.

Where I think companies run into problems, and where I think critics have a point, is that you can't be lazy about it, you can't rely on diversity to be a value unto itself, and you can't fake it or simply pay lip service to it.

too true. I think Bridget from guilty gear is a penultimate example. It was a long canonical journey that led her to accepting herself as a woman. I think King from KOF is also such a natural mulan style story, told through animations and fan service technically but still, great character and story. I wasn’t into MK during 9 but weren’t they basically a thought leader in terms of having a non-trivial gay character.

Just came across this which is also asking NRS to take a break from MK.

I think it’s little articles like this that tell me yeah this game just didn’t hit like the others. Again it’s not just here either. Half the youtubers (love em or hate em) who promote this game also seem to dislike it and some of them (not all) state not liking the timeline reset.

I also watch a lot of grace randolph on youtube who covers movies and television and she has even commented on hearing MK1 had lots of controversy around it and she’s not even in the gaming space.

That’s why I think when people come here critiquing the game and we get blasted with, “No this game performed amazingly,” we kind of roll our eyes.

There were so many mis-steps with this game and I don’t think it’s all gameplay. You can’t just apply some bug fixes snd balance patches and expect the game to succeed because the problems are just beyond that.

MK1 is the best MK period.
An additional spin added to Lao with DF1 input, 7 frame start up. Pops up for combos and anti airs.

Also it would work in tandem with EX DU-3 spin armor cancel. Allow 2in1 cancel into DF1 spin from DU-3 ex cancel.

This would not be broken and will be a hard read into a just frame cancel which is death on block and costing a resource. This is ingenuity compared to EX BF-2 Goro and adds skill floor to the character.

A "hard read" that can be covered by a Kameo. I've already read this. He doesn't need it. His current armored launcher is fine.

His anti-airs are fine.

He doesn't need more launching armor.

He needs more people to play him at Cale's level.

They will buff Kitana so more before they even think of buffing Lao lol

the thing is Kitana mains know how to downplay, Lao players not so much.

Make Laos Spin a 7frames invincible normal that launches and make it -3 on block to be fair.

Wasn't impressed at all. He was shackled to sektors availability to get anything going.
Sonic Fox's Sindel was "shackled" to Kung Lao "to get anything going".

As was Scorpionprocs' Havik to Mavado.

And Nicolas' Takeda to Jax.

Mortal Kombat 1 is an assist game, so this criticism is shallow and irrelevant.

After fighting a player like King Jr. offline, playing casual games with a player like Cowboy online, and bumping into a player like Darkz in Kombat League, I have specific concerns about Kung Lao, particularly in footsies and at mid range.

Your buff suggestions fail to address these concerns in any way, shape, or form.
