Bro I'm mastering electrics rn, I'm garbage. It's about the journey for me. Only ever been a scrub casual with friends in Tekken. That said, I'd be happy to get my ass beat.
Haha if you stick with it I think you'll like Tekken a lot for your type of play. It has tons of depth, but once you start getting the hang of it there's nothing like it. I'll endless rant about my hatred for Heat lol, but it's probably the most unique game out of all the FGs out there. Let me know when you start getting a little hang of the basics or wanna just play some for some tips/advice.

Thinking about getting back into Tekken. Assuming MK doesn't return to EVO and I want to make it out of my pool for whatever game I enter.
Funny enough that's why I stuck with it when I was about to deep dive MK1. The two tourneys I have coming up actually both did not even have MK1, so it made no sense for me to go all in if the game wasn't going to be there, so stuck with my usuals of Tekken and KOF. At least you'll have to brush off any rust if you jump back in soon.

@SaltShaker what rank are you atm? I just got to destroyer. Like I know my Lil baby mixups and what's unsafe and all that, but my movement is ass and I forget half my moves et still.

I'm playing Law, btw. I tried to learn Kunimitsu in Tekken 7, played Law/and Forest, Eddy, King/Armor King, Hwoarang, and Jin growing up just playing casually,, so might look into them and also tempted to look into Kuma.

I am floating right around the Tekken Emperor/Tekken God rank border right now with Xiaoyu, and I have a couple of characters ranked in Tekken King like Lidia and Alisa, a few characters in various Blue Ranks Kishin rank or Fujin rank, etc.

Out of everything you are learning, the movement will take the most getting used to. Moving in neutral, 3D game so sidesteps and knowing when to SS in neutral or on low-frames block, opponent movement and reading it, etc etc. I would focus on improving movement equally as much as tech because that's what will eventually improve defense and whiff punishment. There are SO MANY players stuck in the Purple Ranks or low Blue Ranks that can do every combo in the game and a bunch of great tech but struggle with movement and punishing so they can't advance.

Law is actually really good in this game. Definitely a strong character and funny enough that's who Ninjakilla is playing with tons of matches on YouTube to view and pick from. And being a well established character there's a lot of guides etc, the Law discord is pretty stacked with info. @M2Dave was using that forbidden criminal character Kuma if you need character-specific tips. Kuma is one of the characters I have actually never played in any Tekken lol. I think you would like Law and Hwoarang a lot.

@M2Dave have you caught some of the TWT these last couple of days? I think it might be the best Tekken play to date with both the most stacked brackets we have ever seen and the matches/gameplay.

Yes, I agree.

Namco seems to have nerfed Dragunov correctly. He is still top tier but no auto pick for lots of players.

Rangchu played on another level like in 2018.

Unfortunately, Kuma and salmon nerfs are coming up. LOL.

This is what I'm talking about, this upcoming update is how it's done. New moves for all characters, systematic changes to Heat revamping gameplay options, with a massive balance patch on the way. This is pretty much exactly what I wanted.

Also, that Kuma taking over the highlights of the main stage is perfect timing, as I cannot wait until the most underrated character in the game receives those nerfs lololol!

I like Tekken 8
I’m in Kishin with Lee and Fujin with Jin. I took a long break and am relearning how to play the game.

If anyone wants to play let me know.

Ask me about my Mileena agenda.
I kinda wish I had picked up Nina sooner. She's been super fun to play and practicing her cancels kinda reminds of playing A-List Johnny Cage. I just hope she doesn't get hit TOO hard in the S2 balance patch right as I'm finally getting comfortable with her lol

@SaltShaker Do you play on PS5 pad? Im struggling so hard to get down forward and down backward motions out consistently. Ive read other places that most people shit on the ps5 pad for Tekken, but some say its not a huge deal.

Like Laws Slide for example, in practice mode it feels like I can get it 9/10 times, but then that odd time I feel like I do nothing different but get while standing 3 instead.

Or when trying to practice kbd I get backdash then sidestep every so often.

I'm getting better at the movement bit by bit. Tekken is so fucking fun, yo.

Leo is the most fun character to pilot in this game and it isn't even close.

Played for only an hour or so last night but had a blast. Looking forward to playing this game again.

Funny enough I use both pad and stick depending on the character I'm playing. Like Xiaoyu or Lidia I use pad, but Steve or Leo I prefer stick. I use a Victrix Pro PS5 pad when I use pad, it's really good. I'm not too crazy about the PS5 system controller but like anything else I'm sure it works fine after using it enough.

This i think will come the more you practice/play. Law's Slide or Lee Slide types of moves are a good example of something that feels easier when you're in practice mode but when you're in the full match speed you'll probably bobble it a few dozen games before it starts to become easy enough to do in your sleep lol. With MK/Inj there aren't moves in that pattern so it'll just be building the muscle memory then you'll never drop it again.

There are some amazing movement practice drills on YouTube. Tekken 8 has simplified movement a lot to make it easier for newer players to enter. Now the KBD isn't really required like it used to be, you can be solid pretty much by having a really fast backdash/Sidestep game now. Like double backdash (or forward) with sidestep-block movement is all you need, KBD is just extra to flex now.

And I knew you would like it haha I called it. When it starts to all click together and you start reacting to things fast paced with punishes and hitting tech traps you set up it's like euphoria.

Nice, I can run some with you midweek, I've got a few characters I can run. Mainly skip Monday and Friday but I'm on the other days. AoN_SaltShaker if you're on PSN. If you're on Steam we can meet in a lobby and play while we get watched by some randoms in there lol. Lee is always a good character to get experience against.

And an added bonus is that we are probably the only two people alive who still play the character (I don't as much as I used to lol).

Man I don't get how Leo isn't popular. Their moveset is too sick.

Every single button and string has its place, so much fun experimenting and having to hold all these moves in your head, ready and waiting for the right moment.

not to mention the animations and flow for their moves. way less jarring or silly looking than character like Feng or Jin

I think you just explained why lol. Leo has the "Jack of all trades" running, but lots of Leo's moves are for the right circumstances at the right times to maximize them. It's a lot easier to play Jin and just "do the things in a bunch of situations" that work in 90% of them lol so Leo gets that mastery asterisk on top of being called "boring" without having some of the flash that some characters have, similar to how Shaheen gets heat for boring. Also, other than like AyoRichie there really isn't a big time Leo player on the scene for people to follow or bring exposure to the character. All that combined equals rarely seem character lol.

sadly people who never played other fighting games thinks NRS is doing them a favor, as some take things too literally, here we have MIshimas completely redesigned but maintaining the core of the things that makes them mishimas, from key normals to electrics and so on.

AyoRichie is a godsend. Funny that I hate when people do this for just about every other game, but he'll make a 20+ minute video rambling about one move and I eat it up.

idk, I get that Leo isn't top tier or easy, but I'd figure more people would be just playing for the enjoyment of the game.
