Same, man. Same. I had some hope for Peacemaker, I'm a WWE fan and wanted goofy Cena, but IMO NRS doesn't do goofy very well anymore. They kinda nailed goofy with Ghostface, so they haven't totally lost it, but I still think a lot of the silliness doesn't quite land for me.

Never saw any of the Conan movies or shows (idek if there were multiple movies or if there were shows, lol). I always thought the idea of a “barbarian” with Arnold’s accent would just throw me off, and the character in general just never appealed to me. But remember, this is based on never consuming any Conan content. So maybe I woulda loved the character back in the day (or maybe even now, who knows?).

That said, like with most FG characters, I really don’t care too much about who the characters are. I care almost exclusively about their gameplay. Which is why I don’t main my favorite MK character, Human Smoke, in MK1. Because I like Scorpion’s gameplay faar more (although I still haven’t tried Smoke since the buffs, so again… who knows? lol)

This was for Ed Boone and no one else, I'd guess. There's probably 30 or so Conan Fans and maybe 9 of those are MK fans.

Have you seen the first Conan movie? It's a pretty decent action flick.

It's an odd choice to be sure, but to be fair Conan was pretty foundational in a lot of what we consider standard for high fantasy these days. He's had movies, comics, tv shows, novels - It's a multimedia franchise.

Really strange choice for MK, though. I would have preferred something else.

I'm not sure about the comparisons people make between Kotal Kahn and Conan.

They don't really have anything in common. I mean they both sort of use swords and are often half naked?

Anyway, they did a lot with Ghostface despite them just having a knife so who knows?

I think I would have preferred something else.

I haven't, and don't have much interest. It may be blasphemy around here, but I've never found Arnold even tolerable as an actor in anything before. Hes a bodybuilding icon, tho, no doubt. If there's a comic or something I may peep that.

Games,comics,movies,books he was pretty popular, not sure why they went with exactly the Arnold look though. And again given no Conan content has been out for quite some time the choice is definitely odd.

IMO opinion this was peak Arnold physique and he had a supporting cast in those movies that he largely reacted off of. They also had the non-Arnold Conan show in the mid 90s which was not bad. And I really liked the Jason Mamoa one in the early 2010s. That was a fun movie too!

and this preview is very Kotal Kahn but faster. and he is an odd guest... as others said and so is T1000. But they were 80s/90s characters so guess they are going for that clearly.

They're both giant lumbering muscle dudes with giant swords, both based on ancient warriors.

NRS is aware of the comparison too, they gave Kotal a Conan skin in 11

I actually think he is a perfect fit for MK... much more than all those comic book character guests and rando-action film things like Predator or Rambo. Dark-Fantasy is a near match for MK. IMO, Conan is a absolutely awesome pick and, as I said a few times already since the announcement, I think he is the best choice for a guest since MKx days.

I think the reason is because Ed Boon and Co are old as fuck. Every time they bring up who they choose for guest characters, they always say it starts with who they actually want and then from that list go through who they can get

Ed Boon once mentioned the idea of a Return Guest pack, and if we're scraping the barrel so hard that we're getting shit like this, then yes I would absolutely love to see Predator and Spawn come back

Predator was fun to play (didn't like to play vs or as spawn) they were good, but as far as "fitting in" with the MK IP... they were way, way off the mark. for me at least...

There are so many guests now.. all owned by WB.... NRS should just make a terradome-like game with all these movie, tv and comic book chars in one game. They wouldn't even need to do a lot of redesigning as all the move sets are already done.

I read somewhere that Conan’s expanded universe is the jump off point used by the creators of the tabletop game, dungeons and dragons. That would make it extremely influential. But it is currently somewhat irrelevant.
I think horror media and comics is definitely the overlap. Would love if Ice Cream Man made an appearance but they are way less popular a character than Conan.

lol.. dude... Robert E. Howard (the guy that wrote about him) is only rivaled by Tolkien as the most influential force in fantasy and he is also one of the giants of science fiction. There isn't a form of fantasy that is not directly influenced by his books and therefor indirectly by Conan... including MK.

When Cyrax and Sektor were literally inspired by Predator itself, I fail to see how he wasn't a "good fit" for MK. But my previous post about Conan being chosen was not so much as "he doesn't fit MK" (he does, as Kotal is blatantly inspired by Conan) as much as it was "there are no relevant Conan trends at the moment". There isn't a new Conan show or movie or whatever coming out soon, it is a weird marketing choice I guess. Invincible, Peacemaker, Homelander all were media-relevant to their launch date. Arguably, Ghostface is enough of a pop icon to warrant his inclusion whenever, regardless of current new Scary Movies (one did launch last year though, IIRC). But Conan? I'm not sure. Same for the second terminator guest.

Pinhead is legit my #1 choice for guest character as well. Maybe even with some cheeky "kameo appearance" of other cenobites in some special moves or fatalities (specially the Chatterer cenobite).
