Reptile and his Uppercut

Searching and searching for SOMETHING to handle characters that can combo off of Jump kicks and make our d4, 1, or 2 useless AA against them I tried an old school approach. The uppercut. Most of reptiles strings on block leave you at perfect uppercut distance that you can do on reaction to a jump.

It stuffs any jump in attack and the nice thing about Reptiles uppercut is it leaves you at perfect dash whiff range. So you have the option to get a fb on screen or dash in mix up. You can also double dash after an uppercut or go invisible. I've been trying this approach lately and have had a ton of success. The consensus vs Reptile is JUMP OUT of everything and well this makes its a tough process for your opponent to get back in your face. Not new tech by any means but I rarely see people use uppercut in this game because most of the cast has obviously more damaging AA options but it seems Reptiles could be very useful.

Question, did they change 4s hitbox? I remember being able to do 321acidhand-4 and if you jumped and even dashed up this move caught you but now its hit box is so small and inconsistent its become completely useless. 4 used to also deal with JIKs as well and now its just begging to be punished. Am I crazy here lol?

I was mainly talking about meterless AA but even then a charged forceball doesn't work against certain characters. Any JIK character, you can't do on reaction to a jump because its to slow and you'll end up just taking a JIK to the wrists for full combo and wasted a bar of meter.

And yes fbs are great AA options when characters are at a distance and at times up close but up close you're asking for trouble if not perfectly timed and spaced. If the opponent sees reptile get into his crouch they just dash in and jump over it for full combo.

I know it doesn't work on everyone, sonya blows that shit up, and any character with a teleport that gets behind you. I was sort of talking about it just in general not so much for your discussion. I never really see anyone doing it. and yeah I never do it if someone is in my grill lol, I just elbow dash out of jump in and cross overs. I like this uppercut idea though.

Ex force balls are my go to aa. Seems like people are intent on not taking the chip damage from one as well. They literally do everything they can if one is on screen to avoid blocking it. It's odd.

Gotcha. Yeah I kept getting blown up for double dashing cross ups and dashing out into forceball so I tried this out. Mixing it up between uppercut and NJP depending on the read. Kinda hilarious and awesome how Reptile has to rely on the most basic basic gameplay elements.

Reptile_8417 have you been trying out the d4>forceball as a poke? Been punished yet?

I've been using it religiously lately, mixing it up between d4 acidhand and the results have been very nice. It also catches jumpers when trying to jump out of a 321-invis-dash combo ender, so it technically resets them. Have yet to be punished for it. Only time I've been punished on block using a reg forceball is when you do 122fb, f2 forceball, 32 forceball.

Yeah I would think because of the hit stun from the d4 i would be easy for the fb to hit and you to recover in time, but I will check it out.

Yeah 2 xx FFB is nice vs non JIK characters. Kitana, Jax, Smoke, Sonya, Scorpion laugh in the face of 2 forceball anti air. lol

my fav character's from mk II that i use on mk9 are raiden and reptile, but i suck as rep on mk9. some of these things that are mentioned here are whiffing over my head. the the aa 4 where he looks like he's kicking in a door?
