But in all seriousness... we already did terminator so doing another terminator character, I wouldn't be down for. Especially since she'd be another POWER OF GUN character.

Tried to steer away from alien/predator, Horror movie characters, and terminator franchise since they'd all been done already. But I of course love the idea of Xena and Wynonna being in. Just make Wynonna's ultimate/super peacemaker and make the rest of her moves not involving guns lmao

EXCUSE ME HOE, I WANTED XENA FOR A LONG TIME. Idk if you remember but she was actually fake leaked along with the real leaks before MK11 came out. I was so hype AND FOR WHAT. Also yeah I ripped off your Wynonna cause I CAN. And it's a great idea. :oops:

Going off of my post in the speculation thread, I'd want a roster of characters from before or who were around 500 or so years before the first Mortal Kombat game. I've put too much thought into this, so here's who I'd want representing each realm lol. I feel like bringing in ancestors of known characters kills two birds with one stone; we still get that old character's archetype and name but in a new package with more to add to the story.

Earthrealm

  1. Raiden
  2. Fujin
  3. The Great Kung Lao
  4. Shang Tsung (since this would be before he was cursed)
  5. Kenshi's warrior king ancestor
  6. Scorpion's ancestor
  7. Sub-Zero's ancestor
  8. Johnny Cage's Mediterranean god warrior ancestor
  9. The Original Nightwolf
  10. Bo' Rai Cho
Outworld

  1. Shao Kahn
  2. Goro
  3. Kitana
  4. Kotal K'etz (Kotal Kahn's father)
  5. Khameleon/Chameleon/Reptile/New Saurian
  6. Baraka's ancestor
  7. Nitara
  8. Red Dragon ancestor (the Black Dragon didn't form until the first half of the 20th century)

True but in reality only Stryker was a gun character. Until they started to give weapons to Jax and by MK11 things got out of control. Why the fuck is Sonya using a drone??

I don't think the MK characters are to blame for the "gun problem" or the lack of interesting powers/weapons. It's more on the recent batch of guests...

-Clown with revolver and mundane weapons
-Man with shotgun
-Robot Man with handgun
-Man with machinegun

And yeah, there's also Erron Black. Get rid of him! Terrible character

I mean I kind of get it, giving the Special Forces fighters guns/tech is a way to try and equalize the power between them and all the ninja wizards from the other realms. And part of me does kind of enjoy the Magic vs Technology science fiction aspect of it. I just think that with MKX and then MK11 it's gone just a bit too far, so I'd like to see the pendulum swing back in the other direction. Basically have the game feel more like a Wuxia film than a Comic Book action film.

Yeah, they can use their guns in strings but having too many projectiles and projectile based characters are annoying no matter what. Like okay zone if you wanna, but when 90% of the roster can zone, wtf. lmao

I actually don't mind the zoning aspect of it, I love the counterplay between zoner vs rushdown character, I think for me it's just the aesthetic of it. Less guns for zoning, more magic. And maybe a bit clearer distinction between zoner characters and others.

Yeah, that's why variations are a bad idea. Cause there was no real character archetype, at least in MK11. Like you could zone and rushdown with the same char. if you're gonna do variations, just stick to one archetype.

What's a sunny day without a rainy day to make it more notable by contrast? What's a spiteful fire demon turned ninja clan master without a chick with a gun shooting him for 5% damage to make him more notable by contrast? Also, it's a nebulously undefined modern era in the MK story so of course there's gunna be some Earthrealm people with modern / semi-future tech bashing heads and shooting people.

The wild differences of characters in MK's cast of weirdos has always been a huge selling point, at least to me. There's a silly bit of enjoyment watching someone like Cassie shooting a gun at a thousand+ year old, soul-devouring sorcerer... and winning.

I will say again, though, that capping the SF representation to 3-4 would be appreciated imo.

Slightly more serious answer: They go with Special Forces characters because it gives the audience a grounded character to act as a foil for the rest of the wild and crazy cats they have in the game. MK is Science Fantasy. Characters like Goro, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden supply the fantasy, while characters like Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and Jax supply the Science. It's just how the genre works.

True. But a game without any of these 'grounded' characters would be much better

Imagine a setting of an Outworld Civil War and only the characters there involved. Or Old Edenia.

It'd be interesting, that's for sure. I'd love a game that takes place at the Great Kung Lao's first tournament, and just have a roster of either new characters or characters from that specific era.
