I absolutely think it could work. The problem with Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe wasn't it being a crossover game, it was the fighting system/mechanics weren't that good, and lots of people also heavily criticized the lack of gore (since it had a T rating).

Keep in mind, what the game did right:

  • It introduced us to the modern Story Mode format, which is the best in the genre
  • While still a 3D fighting game, it brought back a more classic Controller layout and was closer to the 2D classic mechanics than it's 3D-era predecessors. It actually felt more like a 2D MK game on a 3D plain. That was huge.
  • They took what they learned from this game and made Mortal Kombat (2011)

Why? Cos it was one attempt a long time ago that didn't work well? If you're talking about a story maybe, but gameplay? Its just a fighting game. The thing that makes it a crossover is essentially the names the characters have and what they look like. I cant see how the fact half the characters would have MK names and look and the other half would have DC names and look would mean it can't work.

This is kinda why I never overly about characters in fighting games cos it's basically just what they look like. I only really care about the gameplay. So the fact that it would be a crossover is almost redundant. I see no reason why Liu Kang can fight Reptile but if its the flash it wouldn't work.

Apparently some people have forgotten what MK is popular for. Gore and its story. Gore didn't work with MKvsDC, it won't work now. Joker is cool and all but I don't see why Warner Bros would let you rip Batman/Superman's spine off this time around. As far as story goes, you'd think they couldn't f*ck up MK's story mode any further than they already have but if they really want to, they should include the DC universe again.

And if gameplay was a selling point of MK, this franchise would have died a long time ago.

That was before MK11. Neutral is out now, because it's boring, so the next game will get rid of it per community request :p

The new NRS game design policy leaning towards normies has been a financial success. The way they ended the support in terms of game balance, and the quality of patches illustrate the depth of involvement/commitment towards the product.

So neutral base or not, I just hope (though I sort of given up), that the next product will be handled properly. I would dare to say, that out of the last three games, this one had the worst support - Opening up the customs with that state was a nail to the coffin.

But as my mother used to say to my dad "Money talks, Bullshit walks".

Do you guys think that since there were a few gory scenes in DC animated movies, they’d allow it now? Of course it wasn’t as bad as fatalities. But just a thought (Just asking, because I’ve been binging the movies.)

Anything is possible. Mainstream DC Comic media has gotten darker/more gory since 2008, and there are likely different executives now making the decisions and sign-offs.

So it is indeed possible.

Well...if they were already working on IJ3 or the DC vs Marvel that was previously rumored a while back then they could easily use what work they have done for an MK vs DC 2. although...these rumors are sorta getting a bit stale IMO. even if they have some minor legit.

Anyhow. keep in mind if this were to happen it would likely involve more Suicide Squad characters. The anti-heroes that do sometimes kill like Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Red Hood, and I'm sure they would have alternate universe Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman in there too. You could even have a Trigon possessed Raven. And we have the DC skins and the Joker in Mk11 so it is definitely possible.

I still do not foresee them releasing it until the new consoles are readily available to purchase. Unless of course they do what they did with MK11 and this game is sort of a bridge. These days ... nothing really shocks me. well some stuff does. I was shocked there was no Pit stage in MK11 and they got Bridgette Wilson and Sly Stallone to do VO for their characters. I mean...they have to be rolling in money. But I digress...as long as the next game is AMAZING. I do know that I want/prefer an MK game over all else.

If Joker film could be gorey, if Batman could say “i will fucking kill you” in snyder cut, then they can do this rated R. It must have Captain Marvel and Heroic Brutalities

I don't want MKvsDC 2 only because the roster would suffer. You don't get as good a chance of getting more obscure characters when you need to have 2 games worth of "Main-Stays".

So my chances of seeing Chameleon or Smoke are so much worse when not only are slots reserved for Liu Kang, Scorpion, Raiden etc, but also Batman, Supes, WW etc.

Yup. If there's two dozen characters, a dozen per franchise, you'd be looking at the likes of " Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Raiden, Kano, Sonya, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Jax, Kitana, Kotal, D'Vorah. Give or take.

As it’s been said This is either a hint that we are getting a modern day mk vs dc 2 (and it would be cool if WB lets them go full M rated like the comics since they have Multiverse for the kids) or a total rouse distraction to hit us with a surprise announcement for a marvel NRS game..

No idea who this dude is or if he’s credible. I could for sure see no mk news until 2023 tho, with that see you next year part. Maaaaaybe a trailer at the very end of this year and then game comes out April, kinda similar to mk11 release. Nrs is in no hurry to reveal anything.
