Kombat Pack 3, 4 and 5 Leak From the Guy That Leaked Aftermath

yes selling many more copies to people who would have otherwise never played the game is awful, with these guest characters, the highest selling and therefore most popular of all the DLC characters.
The amount of copies sold and the popularity of the content has absolutely zero relation to its quality, and I will argue that an OVERABUNDANCE of guests detracts from the overall consistency and quality of a game. I have little issue with an appropriate guest or two to draw in new players and make a little extra money, but there does come a point where I draw a line. I have stuck with Mortal Kombat all my life because of its enjoyable story and fantastic characters who have stood the test of time and become immortal cultural icons, not because of fleeting marketing gimmicks designed to sell season passes.

I'm not a fan of guest characters either, but I get why they do it. If it sells, it sells, and that means the next game will a) have a better chance of happening and b) get a potentially larger budget if the last game sold really well. Games are a business, after all.

In terms of the guest characters in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate:

  • Cyborgs are a staple of Mortal Kombat, so the Terminator fits, as does Robocop.
  • Joker is an odd one for the game itself, but makes sense given NetherRealm Studios involvement with the DC franchise and that he was in a Mortal Kombat title before.
  • Hellish demons are a staple as well, so Spawn fits and has been heavily requested since Mortal Kombat (2011).
  • The soft reboot trilogy has been special forces heavy, so Rambo fits in that regard.
As far as guests go, the above aren't awful for the universe.

Overall, I always felt that Kratos and Predator were the most appropriate guests overall though, with Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface being the least.

lfmao, okay guys. You win. Ash was real.

Now, can you tell me how all of this happened an not even a fucking concept art from NRS has leaked?

He has a way better understanding what NRS put in the code or not than you. He actually RE some of it working on MK9 mod. He did a pretty decent work with it.

Regardles what is/was the case with Ash, you sound very bitter and disrespectful to others, adding the kids part doesn't help either. There are people here (me included) older than you, but nobody says such stupid things, coz age doesn't mean smart or respectful nor anything else important in the human interaction, like talking on forums.

So please stop with that and act like a normal human being.
Oh shit, how do you know what I do and don't know about NRS code? You son of a bitch I was on the team that leaked it.

Calling other people's statements conspiracies, and then ignoring an in-game announcement (that everyone in the community saw when it happened back then) as a conspiracy a few posts later?

I know this is an infinitely dumb thread, but please, people, layer your trolling.
my apologies, I will dial back my beliefs so that everyone else's unsubstantiated beliefs can go on unimpeded. I did not realize belief in fictional DLC announcements was protected by law.

Can you please tell me what amount of copies sold measures if not popularity? How is popularity measured if not by the amount of money spent on said thing? What then, do amount of copies sold measure and more so, how can popularity be calculated if not by the only tangible measurement we have?

The Fujin stuff was MK9, not X, and it was a DLC_BASEMALE_TEST file (file was all caps iirc), likely just a funsies placeholder and nothing serious given there were zero other references to Fujin in MK9. NRS tends to make their joke/hoax datamines really obvious (Kano transformations in mk2, despite there being no kano sprites beyond bg ones, no kano char id, no kano char usage on the ejb menu) and Ash doesn't quite fit into that just by taking a glance at all the evidence available imo.
Fenix, idk what is your problem, but I've treated you with nothing but respect, only calling you out when it was clear that there is solid evidence for Ash having been a part of KP1, and even then all I said is that it was disingenuous to lump him in with the dvdgamescenter bullshit or whatever leaker of the week it is, and backed up my arguments. You then proceeded to in now two separate instances to rely on ad hominem attacks while occasionally refuting any arguments.

Even stranger, you seem super bitter and disrepectful at me (and others as well regarding this topic) - the fuck did I do? I just pointed out the evidence. If you took it the wrong way, like an insult, that wasn't my intent and I think was fairly clear with that.
It is truly sad that an actual flesh and blood game developing programmer would believe leaks when not a single solid verifiable in game asset for ash has been seen. Not a mesh, not a shader, not a concept art, not ui resources, not even mentioned in comments. You bought hook line and sinker into the same nonsense as the rest of them, and I odn't fault you for it either, because I believe in a bunch of dumb things that probably aren't true either.

But you're asking me to believe a company that has been caught with its pants down in code / websites / demos / dlcs packages as many times as NRS just somehow COMPLETELY concealed the entire development of a major DLC character outside of a PROMOTIONAL IMAGE THAT ONLY SHOWED UP ON ONE PLATFORM FOR A COUPLE PEOPLE and then convinced EVERYBODY from the guy who made said promo all the way to the licenseholder themselves to play dumb, despite the fact no one in the tree got fired? And then kept development of said game going for two more dlc packages and it all just "blew over" ?

Hey, you go ahead and believe that da vinci code crap. Or you could believe the far more likely scenario that you got punked.

my man it's already been a while since we talked about this, and you come here and quintuplepost and get angry at different people?
you need to chill. - I can understand if you want to agree to disagree about Ash having been cut or not (i.e. he's an intentional hoax by nrs), fair, I'll do the same, but you don't need to stir up this much of a shitstorm over what was a potential DLC guest character for a game that seems like its support has run out (with no offense meant to anyone who likes MK11, just to clear any possible misunderstandings)
Seriously. Take a walk or something idk but calm down ffs lol.

I mean thats just flat out not true lmao. Spawn despite having no major media presence in decades is still a pop culture icon
Yup. He was regularly requested on themortalkombat.com , the official site/forum for Mortal Kombat (2011) during that game's life.

In fact, of the guest characters in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Joker, Robocop, and Rambo are the ones I don't recall being heavily requested for the franchise (though I could be wrong).

Of the guest characters overall, Jason, Predator, Alien, Terminator, and Spawn were all heavily requested guests.

Ermac ftw
Is 5 guests out of 37 characters in the game really an overabundance tho? I mean, you already have 32 mk characters there, which 25 of them are base roster, for you to enjoy the lore and stuff.
They do DLCs planning on selling the most amount of copies they can, and having characters like mavado, mokap and havik will only sell to little tommy who has a mk poster in his bedroom and others diehard fans, meanwhile known guest characters will sell like water to everyone and their mom.
DLCs aren’t meant to add any lore to the game, their sole purpose is to make the company money, and guest characters will outsell mk characters any day of the week.

With the exception of Havik, I think even die hard fans would happily pass on those characters. Or most of the 3D-era characters.

I personally don’t mind guest characters as DLC. If they were base roster, that would be irritating.
I’m old enough to remember when DLC wasn’t an option available to enhance games after launch, so whatever a company wants to sell me after the fact is just bonus. I either want it or I don’t.

So 90s dads should feel shame cuz Spawn isn't hip no more but Leatherface, Jason, Alien, Predator, Freddy, Rambo, Terminator, Robocop and Ash Williams, that's perfectly fine.
Keep in mind, we're talking about a game and franchise (Mortal Kombat) that was a '90's franchise, that declined and was simply not good in the 2000's, and revitalized in the 2010's when it re-captured its 90's spirit.

The 90's had and created some truly fantastic franchises.

I tried to throw a yo-yo away. It was impossible.

While I agree with the pont you're making, I don't know if simply not good is quite accurate. At the time Deception and Deadly Alliance were seen as good games. I mean they reviewed well. Armageddon did effectively kill any of the good will those games had though
