Ugh... all new low. Lost to a level 14 player.

That is literally someone who bought the game yesterday isn't it?

I'll go with Juxtapose's encouraging words "They might be very good at fighting games though" to make myself feel better about that.

Weirdly the fight right after I not only actually beat my opponent (cheaply with Sheeva, but any win's a win at this stage) but the poor player actually gave up on the final round, just stopped fighting back and let me get a flawless in. Felt bad for them... but then I got those sweet points and levelled up and my pangs of shame slowly drifted away! :D

Finally up a rank, just 500 more points and that dirty little Cradle of Filth Skarlet will be mine, all mine!!!!

Honestly I'd put zero stock in a player's profile level.

Sure a low level might mean the person just bought the game yesterday. But folks like high-level players, Twitch streamers, YouTubers, and the like create new "hidey" profiles all the time so they can play the game without being recognized. Or it could be an experienced player who primarily plays on one platform (PS4, Xbox, PC) and has set up a new profile on a second platform. Heck, it could be someone's SO who played a ton on their partner's profile and just finally set up their own (this has happened to me before, it's not far-fetched).

On the flip side, a high level profile doesn't guarantee high skill. It could be someone who lets the AI grind towers for them all day just to get skins and gear.

Truly don't know why "profile level" is even a thing. It's a fluff metric that's more misleading than meaningful.

Ok, so I'm now a mere 275 points away from my Cradle of Filth 'Midian' Skarlet.

I just had my first quitality ever ever ever :D I was being a cheap twat with Sheeva (I just want a skin for whoever that poor soul was, I'm not trying to 'grief' anyone! - That's a thing you say right? My son says it, he's 10 and into online gaming) and normally I get punished easily from stomps, but not in this case and god it felt great to know someone gave up playing me. Normally it's just me curling into a foetal ball sobbing just begging for a win, any win haha.

And a second random thought... I wish someone had told me how simple it was just to get the Amateur skin in each season. Not sure there's any I'd even be using at this stage, so it's not a major regret, but I'm always happy to unlock any skins for minimal effort and the human version of Revenant Jade just for having taken part in a match? I'd have certainly used that for a while as one of my variation skins before they added her MK2 and UMK3 skins to her wardrobe to spice up the options. Possibly the Osh-Tekk Jade too, and maybe the black Skarlet dress too. Nothing's a deal breaker until this Kytinn season with Skarlet (then comes Reptile Scorpion and Megatits Sindel, please don't let them be high rankers!) but wish I'd known how simple it was just to get a free skin each season. Instead I avoided online like the plague because I hate this grind and being constantly shown how shit I am at the game haha.

The wait is over!!

For me personally the best skin in the game so far! We WON!
She looks so good doesn't she? So glad to finally have her, it's my new default for Skarlet.

The thing I love most is it's not even particularly insectoid, unlike Spider Baraka or Stag Beetle Kotal. The only thing that hints that it's Kytinn-themed is the wings, but that's so minor instead it just looks gorgeously demonic as hell especially with the horns; straight out of the twisted depths of Clive Barker's mind. I'm not a fan of 'cosplay' skins, but for me this one feels completely in-character; that of the poor starving young village wench fused with the blood of a thousand dead warriors in demonic sorcery... this to me looks like the stunning end result.
