That's a pretty common starter issue with the game. I promise if you keep playing you'll start seeing the opponent's patterns and breaking their combos.
It's too good of a fighting game to let slip.

I cannot stress enough how good Killer Instinct is. Anyone who loves fighting games owes it to themselves to give this game a real shot. IMO KI does one thing above and beyond other fighters, and that thing is agency.
Because of how the combo system works, both players are always engaged and thinking at all times even during combos. The agency of the defending player is still intact despite taking damage; only when you mess up several times in a row does this agency get taken away for the big big damage. This aspect of fighting games is super important, especially when it comes to attracting new blood.

For anyone else: I haven't played this game in a long time but this is the exact kind of thread I needed. I'll be pretty rusty but if anyone has questions about the game, or particularly Thunder and Tusk, I can help.

Edit: I'm only just now realizing how old this thread is and how behind I am. lol.
I saw the alert and was like "when did I post something?"

A few of us on the PC side of things goofed around with it for a few days a week or so back, but it may have run its course already. I did finally got enough of a hang of it to throw down a little, but it's pretty steep if you start trying to figure it out.

DOA had a lot of that got to be full on at all times aspect. If someone wasn't being juggled both players were always at risk, and getting your combo read could get you hurt badly. I don't find it as stressful in KI, but perhaps more annoying because of how often the flow changes. The game oozes cool factor probably more than anything else, so I'm not surprised how it keeps having little revivals.

Is there any option to turn of circular inputs? Maybe i need a new controller but i have a hard time doing these inputs on dpad. And using thumbstick feels awkward.

If you buy the DISC, does it give you all the characters or do i still have to buy tons of shit?
For Xbox One? You'll want to get the Supreme Edition for all the characters. On Steam, the game comes with everything. On Windows, I think it's the same Supreme Edition. Those are the big boy bundles and they should be pretty cheap.

I really enjoy DOA. I haven't tried DOA6 yet, but I thought DOA5LR was really good.

The game seems pretty good about giving you what you ask for. Any time I've had trouble doing that sort of thing in a game either the game isn't good at it or my pad wore out. I actually keep a bunch of replacement contact pads around the place for when a DS4 even starts to act funny. I rarely use my pads, but I still end up replacing the contact pads and it's pretty noticeable almost every time I do.

Some pads play worn better. My Hori Fighting Commanders continued to play well in a worn state (KP said on his stream he has been using the same one for years), but I couldn't buy replacement parts for them, so I quit using them.

The replacement contact pads are only a couple of bucks. They don't last as long as the official ones, but it's a dirt cheap alternative to buying a whole new pad and tossing the old one into a landfill because one part wore out. It actually makes me kind of angry at how many controllers must get thrown away because small contact pads are what wear out, even though the electronics, battery, and plastic housing have many more miles left on them.

Sadly, I think DOA players have been going back to 5 now that 6 support is over. At least one streamer I watch decided to play it again last week, waited 15-20 min trying to get anyone to join a lobby, and then found a mess of active DOA5 lobbies when he switched over.

Kind of a bummer. I think DOA is a strong contender for my all time favorite fighter, but not many people played and I think anyone that does now is probably too dangerous to tango with.

What Controller are you using? Are you using Combo Assist Mode?

If you purchase the Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition, you get all of the Post-Season 3 characters, I believe, but said characters will be free for you to download.

If you buy via the Xbox Store, you get every character as well as every skin save for three cheap Omen skins.

That's your problem. The Xbox Wireless Controller's D-Pad is very poor for proper circle motions. I'd also recommend Combo Assist if you are going to stick with that Controller. It'll help prevent you from doing drops that are happening because of the Controller.

I have no problem with inputs on xbox pad and actually like it as far as dpads go.

UltraDavid is playing Keits right now on
.

During the Tuesday show they (UltraDavid and James Chen) also talked to him about making fighting games with some interested stuff if you go back and pull that video up. Some it is framed through his experience working on KI

Speaking of Ultra David and KI, here's a good video of David showing how he uses tournament footage and game guides to learn and get better at games. Example is for KI, but obviously same principal applies to all games (thanks @UltraDavid )

Hey guys, trying to get back into the game again if anyone wants to play. Im super free though lol. I have both console and Windows 10 version
Game is super fun learned it a lil bit but I couldn't get a single person from here to actually play, so I uninstalled.
