How good/fun are casual matches?

Hey all,

I’m debating getting back into MK11 but just playing with custom variations in casual matches.

I realize there’s no matchmaking based on win-ratio or experience, so how fun is this mode? Is it rare to find competitive matches, and if you do, can you keep rematching with this person until you’ve both had enough?

Also, can you block people so you don’t fight them again?

Thanks in advance.

I can't speak for customs, but I never have any trouble finding matches in kompetitive kasuals. Opponents are usually of similar skill. But, people are people. You will get declined, one-and-done'd, etc quite often. I eventually went back to KL because I found that I spent more time in matchmaking than I did actually playing the game.

But yes, you can find one of the rare cool people every now and again that will rematch you over and over until one of you has to go. But the stars have to align.

Thanks! Do you know if you can block/blacklist people so you don’t play them again?

The most you can do is block their profile on playstation Xbox or whatever. Nothing to blacklist in game. As far as quality of match in customs, it's very rare to find someone that wants to grind sets. A lot of 1 and dones. A lot of people rage quitting. A lot of shit talkers on the Mic. That being said, when you can find a good match, it's alot of fun to see what variations they have set up and what they have found with them.

Im in the same boat as cobaine up there though. I went back to kombat league cause you find matches quicker, skill level is more equal, and they typically stay for the whole set.

Thanks! If you block them on PSN will it still match you up with them? I just thought that was for messaging and stuff.

Also, did they add an option to mute mics? I did find it annoying listening to 12 year olds trash-talking, or people having conversations with others as they played. I know there’s a way around it on PSN, but an ingame option would be neat.

Cant speak to Kustoms but I like the model for Kasual a lot more. Only problem is when KL is on most players are just grinding that and the people in Kasuals are mostly just trying new characters they're not experienced with. I've had some very fun FT5s and FT10s in Kasual tho

Blocking them on psn prevents you from playing with them as well. And sadly no, there is still no option to mute in game.
Not true unfortunately. I had someone blocked because their internet was bad but I still match them

It's fun, sometimes you'll find someone chill who wants to just grind out games with you and it's nice. I usually just play against people in my server cause it's easier and you know they ain't toxic and won't 1 and done you like dicks.

The only way to block a mic is to create a party before you play. That overrides their mic audio. It's stupid you are forced to listen to people at a game level.

I generally stay on PC where mic drivel isn't a problem, and when I'm on ps4 I always make sure a party is set up.

I generally just search in casual with customs as a rule. The pool is larger than Kompetitive and lots of people still stick to the competitive variations. I also felt like the attitudes are a little less MK and when on PC there just isn't anyone in kompetitive.

Being able to walk away from any match you don't like the look of is a big deal. If you know they are a tool, they have wifi or extra sucky wifi, the ping is bad, don't like their player card, whatever. I have my own ideas about what I'm willing to play, and sometimes that moves around as matches get harder to find or I'm more annoyed with WiFi after giving a couple the benefit of the doubt. On PC you also have to deal with people running the game at low FPS, and just no. Whatever I'm feeling I can just decline at will. Super nice.

They are totally random people so some will stick it out, and some are just there to be tool around. Plenty of the people aren't any more well behaved than they are in KL, but if you happen to trip over someone of similar skill that has time then you could end up playing someone for a good while. I ran an hour with someone yesterday and I'm the one that got tired and walked away.

I find Kasual matches enjoyable because I don't feel any kind of pressure to over perform in them. I find it generally less toxic than KL and always play in a party to avoid hearing anyone on mic so can't speak to that.

That said there are some annoying things in it as well, people who pick Terminator for his armor'd special, people who go to character selection after EVERY MATCH just to pick Scorp/sub/noob. People who lose 5 times in a row, but when they eek out a win against a character you're learning will T-bag and make you watch a 15 second long cutscene, then quit.

But those long close sets against a good player are the real reason to do it.

Just go and create a mic party with yourself and you won’t hear them.

Dunno about customs, but in competitive casual I easily find people to grind ft10s with.

When the KL season is over or I'm at demi god it's like a huge burden off my chest because I can finally fight random people with good connections, since you can decline all the WIFI human scum and get some real matches in.
