Article featuring MK11's broken hitboxes

Webpage 'Comicbook' recently published an article featuring a video showing hitbox inconsistencies originally posted on reddit.

The writer claims "As you may know, hitboxes have been somewhat of an issue for the fighting game since it launched earlier this year. It's not a constant issue, but it does rear its head every once in awhile." And "...this isn't an issue plaguing the game, but it happens enough that hardcore players have taken notice of it."

From my perspective, hitbox issues have been a glaring fault since launch. We haven't received any official word from Netherrealm Studios about the inconsistent hitboxes. Will this ever be addressed?

It makes you wonder if certain moves were discouraged from connecting for design choices or complete negligence.
The writer also states "the worst thing is that it's not even consistent character wise. It can happen with just about any fighter in the game." This would be the worst thing, execpt for that beneath the surface these issues are completely consistent given the right circumstance. Sometimes these circumstances are hard to replicate in a live scenario, sometimes they happen everytime quirky "tech" is applied. The message sent is that the player should "figure it out" and that the dedicated playerbase will play through it and develop how the game should be played on their own. More instances of forcing hitboxes to whiff are being uncovered. Are players figuring the game out or just abusing unintentional flaws?
Tl;dr should Netherrealm take responsibility for this? Are you upset about this yet?

If you're going to release a game that you insist be played in a pro-level circuit and with the pretense that this game is still under development after launch, then at the very least you should focus development on creating a stable platform for competition. Some people want character kits changed when the kit was never working to begin with. Balance patches don't mean anything when the foundation is weak.

I want a response. I want to know where in the process NRS is. Is this something they plan on fixing? Can it be fixed? Will you take the easy route and say it is intended or even continue the underhanded route of ignoring it entirely? Next week's krypt event doesn't make me want to play anymore. The shoe polish is cracking because it's way too caked on.

Is it just me or did the uppercut in the first video of Sub v Kano didn’t even look like it should have hit?
Either way this is ridiculous

They just got some geometry wrong, they aren’t conspiring against the player base.

Not that hitbox issues aren't unfortunate, but people are greatly exaggerating here. There is no fighting game out there without them, and I see wonkiness in every single tournament game:

But for some reason I have seen far more complaints regarding hitboxes specifically for MK11. I don't recall Mk9 being as bad, but I do know a few people complained about MKX. Idk if people have gotten more vocal or if it is a more serious issue in this iteration.

Yeah, people have been complaining about literally everything more in MK11.

People are exaggerating Liu Kang's "brokeness" because they need a boogie man to cheer against on streams and a character to blame their losses on. Hitbox inconsistencies, on the other hand, are a legitimate issue to such an extent that a character like Johnny Cage is placed in different tiers by tournament players. You may continue spreading false equivalencies on this forum, but these issues are nonexistent in other fighting games, at least not to this extent.

What's the point in defending Netherrealm anymore? This is the FIFTH fighting game by this studio and we get what is shaping up to be the wonkiest one yet. No official word.
I'm not talking about meta or balance. This studio that has been making insane profits for the past 8 years and we're sold a new product on the same engine with new fundamental issues. No word on any of that but they go ahead and sell us KOMBAT PACKS. Not to mention the disgusting time crystal currency... But go ahead and believe that NRS has your best interests at heart.

Bro you can love NRS all you want but don't say rediculous shit out there like that above JC clip happens in tekken or SF or any game with half as much production $ behind it as MK11. This is the thing of mk11 I really don't like...contrary to what some say balance is ok and game is fun but this kind of shit is inexcusable.

I spend upwards of 1,000 hours playing their games on average, as do most here. For like $100. That’s one of the best deals in life. I’ve had prior conquests cost the same, but for only one hour

NRS hitboxes are giant rectangles going into the middle of the body.

Its like a child drew minecraft characters then made really cool Mortal Kombat models around them

its awful.

when the brokenness of the game becomes a meme its a fucking problem lol
and if you try to downplay the fact that this game has been broken since launch and still isnt fixed then you are part of the problem

Statements like “This is the most hitbox-issue ridden game NRS has ever released” are flat-out untrue. Yes, it’s annoying for Cage players, and that’s understandable — but the level of exaggeration has reached epic proportions. People are repeating talking points that are well beyond the trurh.

You have literally never played a game that was actually broken have you? The shit with Cage is unfortunate & im hoping theirs gonna be another round of hitbox updates to make things consistent but y’all have got to get actual perspective about what’s broken & what’s not. It’s actually ridiculous & eyeroll worthy how people on here are acting.

I really don't understand all the yelling at this game. I've played like 3000 games and only had weird issues in like 2 or 3 matches.

The game has lots of issues, but the Hitboxes are definitely one that stand out. Other day I crossover jump kicked Cetrion, had a sliver of health left. Dude did her FB, it literally hit me as my foot hit her and somehow the game gave it to him. How he didn't die IDK....Even the FB's are inconsitent. I know the move tracks, but still....you know how many times I go for a FB with Raiden, Jade or Liu only to be stuffed by a dumb pussy jab or punch. And I use LK Wu Shi, and I can admit he's busted. Some people need to stop protecting this game as if it's flawless, it's not.

I have videos saced on my PS4 of stuff that is ridiculous. I'll have to go through them and post them here. My opinion is like others. THis game is being played for money on the pro circuit and cannot have these kind of issues and not be addressed.

I posted this 4 months ago. Is this an issue or intended? Tell me this isn't absurd.

Please do. I want this nonsense exposed so people can't just say "it doesn't happen THAT often." It happens all over the place.
