Salty Messages

With how many salty messages I've received playing fighting games online the past few years (especially with Injustice 2, Soul Calibur 6, and Mortal Kombat 11) I have to wonder: Who are the people that send these? Why do they?

I've only ever sent a negative message to someone once, during Injustice 2, to tell someone they needed to get their wi-fi checked out.

Are you someone who sends salty messages after a match/set? If so, why? If not, how do those messages make you feel when you get them?

I try to send GGs when I remember too. I think that's a good vibe no matter what.

I send GG's on 60% of my matches in komp casuals. Some of the time it's mostly just to be polite, but for the most part it's all good. I very rarely get hate, though that may have something to do with me playing D'vorah, who a lot of people view as a total charity case.

I got a surprising amount of hate in I2, more than I ever got in MKX. I'm literally the most rushdown Harley I've ever met, but because I throw the occasional projectile, that really bothered a lot of people.

Whenever I get one of those, I just say “Wow. I didn’t know they had babalities in this game” and then immediately block them because I don’t care what sort of whiny response they’re going to cry back with.

It’s kind of sad that there are actually people in the world who are so lame that they’d whine to strangers on the internet after losing in a video game.

Same. I'm happy to say I only got ggs and rematch proposals in MK11 so far. I'm proud of us.

I don't send GGs or BGs usually. Unless I'm impressed with whoever I ran into and feel like getting more games with them I send GG and ask if they're down to more matches.

However yesterday I ran into a Subzero player and was quite impressed with his Sub in the mirror so I sent him a GG cool Sub and he replied asking if I'm the same Braindead from TYM. I think he lurked here during MKX. Small world.

Maybe cause he's rushdown? Or maybe it's because I usually stick to playing TYM ppl and STB ppl for the most part? I only venture out of that for ranked and I was slightly over .500 in regular ranked and slightly under .500 currently in KL.

I'm sure I'll get some for shang against characters that have a rough time with zoning.

It's pretty easy on Xbox since it had the "recent players" section, but I have no idea for PS4

Just go to messages and when you want to select the recipient on the left there's a "Players Met" tab which shows you the.. uuh.. players you met.

The most hylarious and rude message I got, was from a noob saibot constantly jumping and anti-aired consequently, that tried to insult me in spanish, calling me "puta madre", which, depending on the article used, could mean "great" (de puta madre) or "your fu*er mother" (tu puta madre). I supposed he was trying to say the second but, in order to annoy him, I asked him if it was insult or a compliment. Then he said to me "cállate puta" "shut up bitch" (I'm a man, by the way) and it was confirmed. Then I simply responded to him with "don't be rude boy". He didn't say anything else.

I never receive private messages. It's mostly people screaming and cursing me out in game chat. I had to switch over to private chat because of it.

Depends.
Most people send salt mail because they’re pissed and vent. But sometimes if someone is mad and you send GG they see it as condescending or trolling/mocking

I used to be a salty little kid back in the day but I would rage more in MOBA's because that was unfortunately what everyone did.

I learned to stop doing that on my path to become a better player but I'll still rage sometimes just never on mic or in a hatemail lol, and I've learned to redirect it to myself. "F*CK I can't believe I missed that tech" rather than telling someone their scrub ass character would do a throw.

I'm surprised hatemail is still a thing, I mostly get people who hop on the mic to rage mid battle. This was abundant in mkx as people heard "On your knees" for the 4th time and would lose their shit on the mic.
