Good fight sticks for MK? (other than the Tournament Edition stick that came with the game)

I've been looking through several fight sticks but I don't know which one would work well with MK, I would get the Tournament Edition stick but I heard its not so great for other games (I play MvC3 as well), anybody have any recommendations?

Well you have 3 choices for the most part. (4 if you just want to learn MK on a SF layout, which would be choice #4)

The first and most obvious choice is the PDP MK sticks. Still easy to find in 2 different models, the MK9 and retro looking Klassic (im actually selling one myself, the MK9 version, and its for PS3. Check it out here) and are decently priced, about even with most Mad Catz TE sticks for SF, etc.

Second choice, and the BEST choice is Arcade-In-A-Box. These are my favorite sticks and IMO, the cream of the crop. These sticks are like control panels from arcade cabinets custom fit for your lap. :) You pick the parts, you pick the layout, etc etc. total custom. And with that comes a bigger price tag, but again, totally worth it. Check em out at www.AIABstore.com

3rd choice is the Mad Catz Combat Panel on a Mad Catz TE stick. it gives the layout a slight modification to have a smaller, less spread out MK layout, closer to the SF layout. Here is a pic of a TE with one on it: http://i42.tinypic.com/2uj0aw7.jpg (i am also selling one of these, too lol, found in this thread: http://testyourmight.com/forum/showthread.php?8190-The-Static-FOR-SALE-Thread-V2)

And like I said above, you can just play MK and SF on a SF layout. @CDjr does. I dont know how, but he does. he is weird or something, i dunno.

I would pick a 6 (yesyes) or 8 (noooooo...) button SF layout - easy to play (how strange that it may sound :) ) & you can use it for multiple games...
But as a MadPlastic owner, I would strongly recommend bang for your buck and go AIAB or other custom builder - just like Tim said.
And btw -> you'll get plenty in return for the +-100 that you pay extra for the AIAB. A rugged design, nicely wired (WTF Madcatz, my cat could do a better wiring job!), dual modded & "unique" stick!

If you decide on a TE it would cost you "roughly" the same ammount extra to have an extra plexi (15 - 20 bucks), art print (+- 5 bucks), dual mod board/extra PCB (+-50 bucks - DIY - double that price if you want a modder to do it). And I don't know about buying an expensive toy (if you buy a new one), just to screw it open and customize.

just think:
wood vs plastic
vinyl art vs plexi/print
dual modded out of the box vs DIY
AIAB vs MadPlastic
Oldskool Cab design vs Plastic Vewlix replica
AIAB!

And for the ecological boys&girls, an AIAB stick is a lot better for the enviroment. Most big company sticks allready traveled half the world and are mostly made of plastic.
Another nice point of view is that you instantly pay a more local creator, instead of some big ass multinational corporation (that probably has cheap ass workers working triple shifts)...

Check Latif's AIAB :)

That's about right.
I play MK on a TE stick and I have to recommend it. The biggest problem I had was finding the perfect layout for MK, but after awhile all I had to do was re-assign the block button to RB(xbox) and I was good to go. Though you would like a fightstick I must say it isn't necessary for MK unless you have a Xbox 360 which has a horrible controller for fighting games. If that's the case I would go for the Madcatz TE sticks because they work well with all games and can easily hook up to your PC.

I have an AIAB stick, and I love it. It's been worth every penny. Very well built, authentic arcade feel, lightweight, and most of all fun!

So just go AIAB while you still can (I read that the dudes are thinking of quitting the bussiness), I don't have one myself. But I can assure you that you won't get dissapointed..!
Where'd you hear this? Tim Static, tell Satan's Haze (and me) its not so!

Wow you guys are a great help!
I'm thinking of getting a stick from Arcade In A Box, i heard they make GREAT Arcade sticks

Glad you brought this up, it was a bit of a misread of a SRK article. Just found the thread on SRK, and the fact was that they almost quit because of the hard financial climate these days. Probably read it after a long bar night...
One of the later sentences was: "Arcade-in-a-Box has been around for about 12 years now, and I would love to make it another 12"!!!

Here is the thread:

BTW here's another custom builder for the peepz here in Europe, it's a super friendly Dutch guy that owns the shop, check it out:

Sorry fr givin' you the shivers aj1701, didn't mean to.... And this means I can order one too in a few months!! Because once you get locked into a serious stick collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can!!

I'll adjust the post!

Well later in that thread he does say he struggles with whether he should keep building sticks. I hope he continues, it would be a shame as he makes a great product. But yes, I'm trying to build my own hitbox style controller, its easy to see how you can get caught up in this. :)

Arcade Ed has certainly cut down on a lot of what he does. Still doesnt phaze the product you get with AIAB. :)

If you're industrious, you can just make a stick yourself. Generally it's cheaper than buying one ($75-100 for parts + whatever you choose to do for a case). You can configure it however you like, instead of having to work around pre-made cases and such. And proper pre-planning can make repairs a less painful process.

After the hassle of putting a new joystick and buttons in my current stick, I plan on just making one myself next time.

well I meant where's the RT/R2 button? Unless if there's another way to do EX moves
Well for me, I have my buttons arranged this way:
1,2,r1,l1
3,4,r2,l2

I use my four fingers that reach from top to bottom, and I just use my ring finger for Block and then follow with any number of 1-4 for the enhanced move of my choice.

And your comfortable playing that way with MK?

Yeah, all info is good. It's all quite expensive so it's best to do some research first. Although Tim Static brainwashed me and I can't get aiab out of my head, :)
Man there's so many options, I could just get a retail stick, but having a stick with an artwork of my choice sounds so awesome, plus I kind of want a hybrid stick too :/
