Exact quote from Italian site says you can customize how characters look, aesthetically, not more

Customize the variants refers to AESTHETICS. It would be kind of strange for it to let us change all gameplay in variations too and for the Italian site not to mention it at all.


Does anyone know where the "you can customize character variations in infinite ways" line come from? Is it from an official source?

I hope thats the case. Those kind of stuff should be left to devs, if they really let you "create a variation" it will be incredibly hard to balance and just.. idk man, I just dont want to deal with it. But to win you will probably have to create one. We should just be able to change the look of the characters, thats all

From the description of the official reveal trailer:

"The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own."

Yeah, it's two separate things. As of right now, it looks like gear and gear moves are returning. But gear moves are going to be more in the vein of variations, so a part of the game rather than a fun add on. So picture MKXL variations, but you can replace specials with select specials from one of the other variations.

No, it also mentions something about being able to customize and use never before seen "movesets"

But lets wait for a non-Italian description just to be 100% sure.

It definitely sounds like you will be able to customize the moveset.

If that is the case, and there is a great variety of specials to add to those "variations", all hope for balance is lost, since we would be jumping from 3 variations to dozens of variations.

If they tried that idea (which is fun, don't take me wrong), I hope there is a competitive mode that turns the custom moves off.

Do we actually have the exact transcription in Italian prior to being put through Google Translate? @mattteo could probably give us a more accurate translation if he had the source material

I'm also thinking of it like Injustice 2. So some moves took up all the slots you had available to add in additional moves because they were really good. Others just kind of replaced moves and gave it different effects. And I'm guessing we won't see the same level of broke specials, like somebody getting a fully invincible tracking super or the ability to summon a magic cat that allows you to be plus on everything or combo meterlessly for high damage

All I did was put that page through Google Translate, so I'm sure there are multiple problems with the translation.

Parts like "protagonists of fantastic movies in the story mode of the epic saga" sounds like it's implying movie characters will be in the story but really I think it's trying to say something about how the characters will star in a story mode with high quality cinematic cutscenes.

For competitive game, even a special that looks harmless or not so powerful, can boost a character a lot. Imagine giving Mkx Quan a good wakeup, or giving a projectile to a character whose only weakness was the lack of projectiles...

So, imo, the "kustomize your character" should be a no no for competition, unless it is restricted to change how your char looks.

Ah, I got you. I'm coming at this from the angle of "this is the base game now" but there probably is a default for everyone you can just use

Italian, Spanish and Portuguese are somewhat closer because all of them came from Latin.

From what i've read there, i didn't read anything about moveset, but you it seems you have a bunch of costume slots which its what i believe they're calling variants where you shall be able to customize your character visually

Really hope its true.

I read it now. It is ambiguous.

It basically says that it gives you freedom to give your character the features you want.

So we will have to wait. it could be related with moves or not. Let's hope not xD

WAIT WTF IT CHANGED. They updated the page and at the bottom it doesn't even say anything about Battle Passes (which was in English by the way -- so I know for sure they updated the page)

Put the new page through Google Translate and it says this:

Sounds like they put the description from all other stores on their page finally, maybe they received a complaint finally? Or perhaps it really was false info somehow? Like the contains of the Kombat Pack aren't even detailed any more.
