Keeping MKX alive

Capcom can't make SF6, they couldn't make SFV for crying out loud. Not without Sony. The community isn't begging for a new patch or new characters @ILuvFightGames, and you're trying to paint a scenario that isn't supported by facts. Where's this campaign to keep MKX going for 3 more yeas? It doesn't exist. At least half the people in this thread about it could care less about keeping MKX going.

4-5 people wanting MKX updates is not "the community" that NRS is ignoring, Besides, you're acting like you need new characters to keep playing. You don't.

Why don't you say something about that? Why don't you say why, no matter the complaints, no matter the bs claims, people will stop playing MKX because they want to stop playing it, period. Stop acting like it's NRS's duty to make people do what they don't want to do anyway.

But hey, if everything is the game developers fault, fine. You disagree? Fine. Keep pointing the finger at NRS, but it doesn't make them guilty of anything.

Sub and kotal FTW
I'm still playing mkx. I have no intentions to stop. I wish mk9 was backwards compatible on xb1, but I may just buy an old 360 and keep on playing mk in general. Being on Xbox is the only reason I don't do tournaments, but I'll keep watching others play.

Yes, Patching and updating a game that long is different than a 2 year model, but I'm not sure you can see the reasoning behind those practices. First off, they didn't just patch SFIV out of their love for the health and quality of the game, they updated it with the knowledge that they have a dedicated and loyal fanbase, that will buy the new disc, be it Super, or AE or Ultra.
As I agree with the rest of your post, just wanted to respond to this. I really do feel NRS gamers would be just as loyal to their games while their new titles come out if they gave us the chance. I honestly would even pay for patches if it came to that after a new title. I would love to have more than one competent NRS game to play consistently. And it would be awesome for those loyal to the Mortal Kombat games or even Injustice games to have new balance patches to look forward to once the other is out. Not everyone who gets heavily interested in MK will like Injustice, and visa versa. There would be new players and loyalist if a new patch arrived for MKX after Injustice 2 was out, trust me, it would breathe new life and possibly get some decent pot money in response.

Now, I do get the reasoning for not doing so, as they do not want to distract customers from their new cash cow. They ultimately want players to jump ship, which is why they have this culture of players doing so. And from a business standpoint, it is smart.

I never play Capcom games, as I just do not enjoy their style at all. But their games success in the FGC speaks for itself. And it would be nice for NRS to take notes and support their games at least once after a new game comes out. I would never expect them to be like Capcom and keep on pumping out updated versions of games for nearly 10 years.

This.

"At least half the people in this thread could care less about mkx going on"

Umm...how can I say this without sounding too much of a smart ass... That's because injustice 2 is being released by the same company My dude! You just made my point stronger lol. Can't believe you didn't think about this one. Anyways yea I'll keep my opinion and you keep yours. Carry on.

So I've gotten back into playing MKX and am having a great time. How many people are still planning on playing/entering tournaments for this game well after Injustice 2's release? The player base hit will be big, but even with a small core player base willing to show up a game can survive(ST's American player base is like a few dozen people who run at the game at pretty much every tournament). Any interest in continuing to pursue MKX?
I won't even be playing Injustass... I'll stick to For Honor and MKXL until Tekken...and even then I'll still play mkxl. But yeah, won't even be thinking about purchasing Injustass.

@Osiris: It's simple. You DO NOT need new balance patches, new characters or new anything, to continue to enjoy and play MKX. If this community really wants both games to exist at the same time they will play both games at the same time.

Alternatively, the players that don't want to play Injustice can stick with MKX full time. If you guys really, really wanted it, you could have both games at each major.

You really could. New MKXL tournaments in 2018, 2019, 2025 and beyond, all you have to do is band together, communicate with each other and get it done. But if you don't want to take a big role in that, I understand. Let it go, like I said, it's the player's decision anyway.

Games evolve, man. Even now as MKX matures new tech is being discovered and certain bugs need fixing, as well as balance needs adjusting. As the game ages, more and more things will be discovered and left as is. Fighting games absolutely need updates to maintain an active community as NRS has displayed. It is not only about tournament life, I tried playing Injustice a year ago and it took nearly an hour to get a game. And none of my friends even played it anymore. When you know things will not get fixed or added, why even bother staying? If you rented a home and the landlord refuses to fix a leaking roof, you can still live there, but it will not be pleasant and the tenants will move on.

I know you do not agree because you seem to believe you know what people do and do not need...just adding my $0.02 to say you do not speak for everyone, and obviously neither do I.

It is, however, without doubt that NRS games would have a longer life with a patch or two after their new titles come out, we just have never seen them do so for the reason I stated in my previous post...milk the new cash cow.

I have no issues moving on, but I just wish NRS would keep their masterpieces playable and appealing for people who really enjoy them. They certainly have the money to do so these days.

You haven't hit a nerve. I could care less. I'm just calling it like it is, like it or not.

The simple fact is, if people want to keep games alive, they will do so. They don't need more characters or new modes, and they don't have to bug anyone else for anything.

That isn't even my opinion, that's a fact. Take it, leave it or deny it. These are not my rules, it's just the way it is.
Well versed, you hit the nail on the head with an anvil dropped from a tall perch

I agree with you also, it is up to the players to keep it going, but I also believe the producer should keep improving the particular game, even if it is slight changes

Dankster Morgan

It is better this way
I don't dislike MKX, I'm gonna have a lot of fun memories of MKX and playing Sub. But really, Injustice is just more my kind of game. I don't see myself feeling compelled to play MK anymore once this game comes out. I prefer Injustice in every way.

lol I didn't make this thread to shame people into sticking with MKX. You're going to do what you're going to do, I don't give a shit. I just wanted to see if there were still people willing to continue playing MKX online or offline(preferable) in a competition format. The game can develop beyond what we see now only if people who genuinely like the game keep playing. I don't give a fart's fuck in Hell about moar patches and developer "support" honestly. I still enter Super Turbo tournaments.

Tier Whore.
MKX gets boring because only rush down is viable and after seeing attack attack attack and corner rape is just becomes boring.

if Inj2 does it better i will keep playing.

I know this,is off topic, but for you experienced players out there, who do you suggest I pick for my third main, shinnok imposter or bone shaper, I will be playing mkx for a long time, really like it, have been playing mkx for many months now, but iam still in the novice phase, but really I am moving forward with my knowledge and understanding, which of those two does anyone suggest I use, thanks for your time

Impostor is fun but very high execution or very inconsistent bnbs with stolen powers specials, and lots of them are useless.

Boneshaper is easier and very fun to play a keep away game.

Thank you for your reply/explaination, very appreciated, the nice thing about shincock boner shaper is his projectile is full screen and sparks has great range also, I like that, along with his db1(strike) great reach, so I see what you mean by distance

Ultra Street Fighter IV was ported to the PS4 and released in May 2015. At the time, it was the only SF played at major tournaments regularly.

SFV dropped in February 2016, and Capcom dropped SFIV like a hot potato. They're no different than NRS, or any other company that wants to make a profit.

WTF would they continue to patch and update and release new characters for a game that has already sold what it's going to sell? At some point, the existing fan base will be too small to justify spending time and resources on the old game. And players are always more interested in what's new, than what came out three years ago.

Companies will ALWAYS make more money releasing NEW games with NEW additional content, than releasing new content for an old game. It's about money and it has nothing to do with the quality of MKX, MK9, SFIV, or any other game you want to mention.

So the bottom line is this: Stop expecting companies to"support" old games for 5-10 years. The only way that's happening is if they don't have the money and resources to make a new game for you (and that was definitely Capcom). Besides, if you absolutely NEED new patches, or characters, or stages, or ports to keep you interested in a game, it's probably time to move on anyway.

If a game is good, you enjoy playing it, and you don't feel the need for anything new to keep the game "fresh" , there is no reason to stop playing... Except for a pot bonus somewhere else.
This, so much. I am planning on continuing to play MKX once in a while. I have little interest in Injustice 2.

Use only logic, please
Who gives a fuck what a bunch of nerds think? xD
People usually play games to have fun, not seek attention or acceptance.
You will be among the first players who mention that 8 months from the time of I2's release that the game is dead. Of this I have no doubt. When MK XI comes out, you will no longer play I2.

This is in total contrast to the Capcom community. Do you think people will stop playing SFV when Marvel Infinite comes out? The answer is no. So why should NRS players be different and allow their games to die so early?

Seriously Casual Player.
For crying out loud, get a $49.00 portable HDD and install some games on it. You don't need to delete games when more memory for your console is so cheap these days. I just got 6TB for my PS4 from bestbuy.com for $125.00.

I'm just toying with you by the way but we have so many affordable options now.

Peace
Hey buddy, any tips for how to install an external hard drive? I don't know how to.

What I would like to see happen to our community is to see MK or Injustice being played by us and supported by NRS until their sequel comes out, this way we always have a MK and Injustice to play and games can evolve more than their usual 2 year cycle
