Require Financial Assistance For Injustice 2 Majors? Help SaltShaker Help You!

Fellow forum warriors I've been thinking how to do this for quite some time. I am trying to come up with a way where I can say, help a talented player get to a major, every major. Players who are serious about going to a tournament but have some money, but not enough. Or players who are grinding pennies to go and could use some assistance. Online beasts who have never been to a major. Etc.

I don't wanna set a specific $, because different people may need different amounts. I want it to be for people who are definitely planning to go play offline, but it is a pinch for them to make it. I'm thinking of letting the game flesh a bit and the new players that will arise make a name, so the major after Evo I wanna start this.

The only thing I thought of, was possibly having people play for it, and the winner of an online tournament wins the $50, $100, etc that they could use and go to the next tourney. It won't be a "online winner wins some cash", it'll be "online winner wins cash to assist in tournament attendance". My "no" provisions are as follows.

-No top player with already paid for trips like Scar or Dragon popping up and winning.
-No random tag that no one has ever heard of.
-Have to be going or already planning to go to the tournament you're competing for. Must go to tourney.
-One winner per each major.

Looking for discussion on any ideas to set this in stone, best ways to confirm players will be tourney bound, and best way to source a winner for each major. Getting back to work so I'll check back in a bit. All thoughts are welcome.

If you had some sort of entry fee (say, $5 or $10, non-refundable), that could help weed out the flakes, and the money could go towards getting the winner to the tournament. Hell, with enough participants, you could end up raising enough money to send 2 or even 3 players... Paypal is one option for collecting payments, and Square is a good option for people who don't have Paypal (Square is what I use to accept credit cards for my business; it's easy and great).

In the event the winner backs out, I assume the runner up would get the money, and so on?

Some sort of nomination system could also work, as a way to make sure only serious players are considered. Like say, in order to be eligible for the tournament, you need to get 10 votes and a TYM mod to sponsor you, or something along those lines. That would keep randos out, and having a sponsor would eliminate people just creating fake accounts for the votes.

You could also have qualifiers, so it's not all decided by a single tournament (where lag and other issues can severely affect the results).

I assume some sort of proof of winning will be required? Should participants be required to record their matches?

This would be a bit more complicated, but you could maybe add a clause that the player must repay their funding with any tournament winnings. So say you give someone $200 and they win $50, they pay back $50, but if they win $50,000, they pay back the full $200 and pocket the rest. And then that money would go towards the next tournament's funding budget.

Like @Pig Of The Hut once mentioned, certain charge cards can be amazing for their benefits (and they're not credit cards; you just pay it off immediately and don't pay interest). By using a designated charge card for all expenses related to this event, you can stretch the money even further with discounted hotel rooms and free air miles. You can check out Nerd Wallet for a list of charge cards, along with their benefits, fees, etc. Most seem to include not only airline and hotel perks, but also credits for Uber and other travel expenses.

These are some great ideas guys, keep them coming so I can iron out the kinks!

Make sure the person you sponsor shows you a screenshot or a confirmation email of them registering for said tourney. This is what Pig does and it keeps things on the up and up.
Pig used to do similar ones during the first game. Entry fee and the winner takes all. Once it shows they're booked (or do it for them) then the money is theirs. Past winners can't win again etc. Good idea though, hope people try and not take advantage of it.
That's the type of stuff I was trying to think of but couldn't figure. Sounds ideal so I will definitely 100% add this to it.

I didn't think of that as all, but if I did an entry fee on top of it, then I would probably just pay for the entire trip if there was a good turnout, or maybe include the two finalist on the sending. Being that there's an unknown amount of players who may want in, the selection process is something I need to nail down also.

PS4 can easily record the matches if there's any dispute. Maybe I can get someone to stream Top 8 or something as well.

Fuck that just give me all the money to travel. :p. JK. Nice of you to do this. Online event is a way to do it. But then you can have people under hidey accounts possibly. But like you said avoiding people who you have never heard of if i read that correctly. Or you can just pick yourself or ask people to vote like R/Kappa does. R/Kappa usually picks fun to watch good players to sponsor. Such as ponko, Peepehdie, Etc. You could do the same and just have a vote of players who are on the up and up and just need that big break.
TTH said it confirmation from the players after they get the money.
If the player who wins the vote somehow cannot go then give it to the runner up.
Try to avoid people who are known to flake a lot. I won't name people but ya.........

What is R/Kappa @Indecisive I never heard of it. I'm thinking maybe a vote since there may be members/players who play at a high level that I would be less familiar with. It'll else help in the objectivity department. Definitely no "xxComboGodxx account activated yesterday" types though.

just send me the money already man we don't need this dog and pony show and a little extra for snacks
You better be front-line in this. Would love to see you at a tourney.

Highly unlikely I'd win any tournament, but I might like to add to the prize pool. I'd be fine with throwing 10 or 20 towards somebody who needs the help to make it out. I suppose that's where the entry fee comes in.

I'd actually like to see this become a regular event and help the competition grow by getting more of them to events.

R/Kappa is anFGC reddit site. Mostly for trolling and posting porn. At one point during SF4 Dr. Mike helped pave the way to sponsoring players from around the world. He set up T shirt donations to help players out. the way they decided if they could not was by voting to see who would be the picked player. So Example. Lets say you wanted Me, Tweedy or honeybee to go to an event but you could only afford one. Have the community vote to see who gets the money. Sometimes they could afford to send all three if they got enough money. But you get the idea. So a more realistic example would be someone like Armed Calf being a pick and lets say Sid the Haze. If you could only sponsor 1 post it up. Have them maybe say a few words if possible or if you want too and let the people decide who wins.

Getting some really good ideas on this. Thanks for all the input guys. Starting to get a better idea on how to do it.
You should also get tee shirts made to send to people so they can wear it. Would be cool. I would wear one. you can also sell it to help more players if the design is good enough. I would buy if it was good enough. I know R/Kappa made custom shirts depending on the player they sent. peppeh got a shirt with Furte and it was a menu with all his moves on it. So fucking cool.

If this jumps off SaltShaker, I'm willing to throw in between $20 & $50 to the pot.

Just PM to give me a heads up.
Super cool man. Definitely appreciate that! I'll keep you posted.
