This thread has turned into a complete shitshow. It's embarrassing to see people make claims of racism in this context. I watched that clip expecting to hear the commentators say something racist, or overhear someone in the crowd say something racist.
What happened to xinnok was a real bummer, and if it was done intentionally, which I've yet to see definitive evidence for, that person is a piece of shit. However, as has been pointed out, it's on the players themselves to desync controllers between sets. This happens at every single offline event. Every single one. And usually, it happens several times. There's all these "coaches" in the scene giving all this "insightful" advice mid set, when really they should be reminding their buddy or teammate to desync the fucking controllers.
When people make claims that someone was treated unfairly because of their race when nothing about the situation appeared racial in the least, it really serves to delegitimize people's actual experiences of racism. It pisses me off that it's just assumed that because something unfortunate happened to someone other than a white American male, it must have been motivated by racial prejudice.
The fgc is probably the most diverse genre of gaming. If you look at a list of he best 20 nrs gamers, how many of them are non-white? Over half? The fgc and nrs scene are incredibly tolerant, and fuck you for making this a race issue and playing it like the ultimate trump card. What if the person who allegedly did it was black, Asian, or Latino? Then is it still racism? The anti us/north American rhetoric in this thread makes me nauseous. There's even people in here bending over backwards to apologize for general racism that exists in this country. Racism absolutely exists, and it is far from an American exclusive problem. Racists are pieces of shit no question, but construing this situation as racial is an affront to logic, reason and is a total cheapshot and bullshit cop out.
Came to this thread for tourney hype and discussion about the sets, and instead we are discussing racism for absolutely no reason.
Looking forward to the top 8.
