EVO ESPN2 numbers are in

I'm not saying that it wouldn't i'm saying that someone who is sprinting is placing more physical strain on their body. My family owns a bowling alley I know first had how much work some people put in for bowling but they are still not in as good shape as someone who is a sprinter.
its a sport, not body building. You build what is required for the specific competition.

Uh, what has this thread come to anyway?

Back on topic, like someone else said, these numbers might not include watch.espn viewers, but it might be worth mentioning that it was also broadcasted outside of the US. I'm not sure how many other countries had it on their ESPN, but I do know that ESPN Brazil was also broadcasting EVO live (with Brazilian Portuguese commentary), but I have no idea about its numbers or how well it did. But that's something we might want to consider.
That's dope! I had no clue it was broadcasted in other countries! That's actually huge!

I mean everyone know they make GOT it s pretty easy to see what kind of channel they are from there
I'm in america. 21 years old. Didn't know or at least forgot HBO made GoT. Never watched an episode. Somehow I have avoided spoilers besides the really meme'd stuff. Point is, no matter how popular something is there will be someone who doesn't know about it.

GoT is a horrible show, do yourself a favour and never watch it. Most over rated show on the planet.

That's the first time I heard that. Always been told I'd like it. Seems cool.

Just depends on how much you like women getting brutalised and raped constantly. The fans can argue all they like about "authenticity" but it is exploitation pure and simple. The show is well made, has good actors, but I just can not sit though all that rape and torture. I do not find it fun or compelling to watch. Every woman in the entire show is either a whore, raped and degraded or completely batshit insane (usually the insanity has something to do with motherhood).

Now I am not a bleeding SJW. I collect horror movies and have no problem with violence, even agaist women. Shout out to the opening scene of "way of the gun"!! hahaha... This show though imo is beyond the pale. It is just not fun to watch.

And before people say "what about the dragon chick" lets not forget she was sold into sexual slavery and then raped for most of an entire season until she learned form a whore to be really awesome at sex to please the guy raping her (another major theme in this show is that the only true female power is sexual control) and then fell into a kind of stockholm syndrome where she co-opted all the values of her opressors... just saying.

eh, there are bad female characters in everything though. And to be completely honest brienne and arya are pretty decent female leads. As for the rape and torture I think the show is pretty horrible to both sexes. I mean a dude gets his penis chopped off and a guy eats sausage in front of him and mocks him.

I've seen some comments of the finals top 8 being Nash and Chun Li mirrors, if you think this is the norm then it's obvious you don't follow any SF events, you've just seen this big one. All past finals top 8's have always had much variety, there's always been Nash,Ryu,Chun Li,Ken,Karin,Necalli,R.Mika, hell even Fang has placed top spots and even won some Capcom events, so if it's variety you want then look no further than SF. Also to add to this Chun Li is considered top tier and has yet to win anything, this tells you SF is based on player skill first. I also think the number of viewers when looked at objectively are good, this is good for us, the fgc, we shouldn't try to put down other fighting games, because they're all different, we should embrace everything that might make fighters more popular, this ESPN SF thing was awesome, hopefully in the future other games, especially MK (I love this game as much as I love SF) will also be featured like this.

SFV is far to slow to entertain your basic sports fan. Smash is to small in terms of stage views andcanmake it hard to see the moves themselves. Pokken has a Stone cold stunnering pikachu so 'cool' bt not wow.

There are three games that hold peoples attention. Chatacters the adverage American can recognize and fadt paced action.

Air Mahvel, MK(warn about the brutalities and fatals and @Pig Of The Hut let people know that letting someone finish off a round or gameyou kno youlost is apart of the 'show' tlet the people see the carnage.

Then finally...Injustice. Its aclassic brawl between fan favs, Batman v Superman, Flash vs Aquadouche. It all comes down tomarketing and appeal. I need to head someones Marketing Division. I promise you a extra 1mil views be4 launch. Update Injustice, and MK. Pay the CW for a 30min-1hr timeslot after theWalking Dead. Keep up ESL, Start a WB Pro Tour that ends at E3 soyou have the GRANDEST stage for all to see, while revealing a new character. Millions, literally millions more to add.

To be fair like other have said the show is brutal to everyone and has a strong feminist undertone. GOT IMO is good is it overrated a little bit are the books better yes but even them have weaknesses

It is no surprise the ESPN numbers were bad.. the broadcast (linked) was absolutely terrible.

Who's brilliant idea was it to mic the entire arena where there was a second set of voices speaking? It is a total mass of noise all right at the top of the wave... headache inducing and I would bet there would be a lot of people unable to even distinguish the sounds.

Now the twitch stream also had the crowd mic on and I think hearing the crowd roar is really fantastic, but the casting was very clear, even with the room size giving an echo. The ESPN cast was basically the same but a 2nd set of voices. The needed to radically mute the the crowd (unfortunately) and have their own game sound feed.

Seriously terrible in every way. I bet 90% of people turned it on and changed channels after only a short time due to the horrible presentation. I mean it is absolutely unwatchable.

Judging from random Facebook posts, it seems like a lot of the viewership dipped at the site of a video game instead of an expected sports broadcast. This gets me wondering how well this was advertised to ESPN's core audience.

For the demographic that continued to watch... yeah, it was rough. Commentary was great, but the audio issue were really bad.

its ok, not great but it's good enough to watch if you're into that sort of thing. I personally think the writing relies a little too heavily on surprise kills to force drama but what do I know.

GoT is a mid-tier show.

If you want to watch something excellent with literary value I would recommend The Americans and The Leftovers, as far as television shows that are on the air as of right now.

If you want to see a Game of Thrones type show that is a zillion times better than Game of Thrones check out "Marco Polo" on Netflix. It starts a little shaky as it has the same explicit sex thing as Game of Thrones (this was a kind of fad in American TV for a while) but quicly settles down into frickn awesomeness. War, backstabbing for power and steeped in real history. Another one I liked but less GoT-like but similar in some ways is "Last Kingdom" about Alfred the Great... really cool.

I honestly do not understand this entire push to get Esports on TV. The target demographic for these things doesn't even watch tv.

I would liken this whole thing to a tv/radio broadcaster desperately trying to latch onto a newspaper for "legitimacy" without realizing that its about to be completely obsolete.
Ding ding ding Haven't watched TV in years and I'm not gonna start cuz some fucking video games are on it.

Honestly, additional exposure is almost never bad. It was still on Twitch -- so if you wanted to watch it as usual, nothing was really different.

But by exploring additional avenues, you'll reach people who may have had no idea this was going on in the first place. As long as they're willing to broadcast stuff like this, there's really nothing to lose.

if by steeped in real history you mean based on fictional writings by Marco Polo then yes it's steeped in real history.

Well, the thing is that the show is a mix of Marco and "real" history. There is in fact not a lot taken form Marco's writing. The show is really about Kublai Khan and much of it comes strait from the history books. Though it is a TV Show, there is a ton of made up stuff.

That is just bullshit on an epic level.
