Discussion Is all the bashing killing MKX competitively?

Egos have everything to do with it. The people who actively bash MK on here and in stream chats, because of the lack of fundamentals, aren't pros on games with their preference of fundamentals. They're just making excuses for why they're not winning. Some people literally don't know the frames on any of Alien's stuff and they want him banned, because "the rekkas are too safe".

The level of salt in the Netherrealm chat after Dragon won his 9th ESL tournament in a row, was worth the Alien propaganda. You could just see the salt and even desperation in what people were saying. One person who posts here regularly even tried to say that anyone could do as well as Dragon if they "gave up their pride", and picked Alien. None of you bums could even make top 64 in the ESL if you picked up Alien. Please. There's 200k on the line. You're not failing because you won't pick up Alien. You're failing because the guys who do well are better than you.
This is bigger than Alien FYI....

Use only logic, please
If the community likes the game, regardless of how broken it is, it has legs. If the consensus is that the game is not fun to play and watch, it will die. This has always been the case since the mid 90's when I worked at Family Funtime Arcade.

Many good fighting games from that era came and went silently in the night because people felt that they did not give them the same if not a better experience from Super Street Fighter 2 turbo or the Street Fighter Alpha series games.

If this is the case for MKXL, there is nothing you can do about it unless the mindset of the community changes.

Booioooooooooooooooooooooi it's The hitbox he has
His mobility
The crazy jump attacks
The mix ups
The safe overhead
The armor
The damage
The footsie tools
The sonicfox using him
The long range
The d4
The lack of brain cells needed
The list goes one but @oaoo94 could provide more hate on alien than me :D

Not Good Enough
The only thing that kills MKX competitively is lack of interest and tournament attendance. The pot bonuses are great, and I laugh a little inside when someone goes out of their way to bash the game and yet compete fervously in ESL. Sure, not everyone can attend tourneys, but I mean, again, the only thing that would kill this game is lack of interest from community. If that fire dies out, then the game will fade away with it.

gotta stay sharp!
Coming from nrs games and now messing with the sfv community at my locals, they are really surprised im not garbage lol. After i tell them they usually ask "whats the meta? Is there one? Seeing how it gets patched every month". That kinda seems to be it. Everyone can be so quick to complain and ask for buffs but not really given ample time to lab and play it out. What do i know though? I just played cyber kano until xl.

The only thing that can kill the game competitively is the fact that competitors just don't enjoy competing and stop doing it.
And this happens when the game is not balanced enough. A lot of tournament players (and not tournament, but regular players) are disappointed not only with the game mechanics, but with the balance decisions too.

Instead of so much money for prizes, nrs should invest a little bit more in hiring employees that actually care about their own game, and interact more with the community to improve the game.
I have said that in similar ways, yet it always falls on deaf ears and people think your crying and bitching or just want to bad mouth the game all the time, which is not exactly true. MKX is a decent game but is highly questionable at the same time and NRS's balance decisions, well need I explain that lol.

All too easy...
Lol, people actually think that every complaint about the game is actually people just not being good looking for excuses and none of them are justified just because NRS/WB threw in some pot bonuses and made ESL a thing (as if it makes it a good competitive fighter by default).

Keep dick riding NRS and acting like they didnt fuck up and they will only make their next games scrubbier and scrubbier each time because they will think thats what we want. We have to let them know that that isnt what we want, and thats only done by players dropping the game and voicing their opinions on it.

The only morality in a cruel world is chance.
I thought it was dumb characters like Alien and Mileena who are killing the competitive scene. Isn't that where all the bashing stems from?

People keep mentioning ESL. Keep in mind the Blue Steel Sub zero skin (Season 1) and Krimson Earmac skin (Season 2) sales is what supported the pro league. If this game lose interest guess what? Casuals won’t buy the skins and that will trickle down to the pro league pot bonuses being way less or none for that matter.

Tbh, WB have more than enough money to shake a stick at and skins won't have a detrimental affect on pot bonues.

I mean you say this but you were in the Mileena forums recently complaining how hard it is to punish a -31 move and how much damage she gets from a 33 frame overhead.

(and I really do wish I was making that up....)

Lately I've been hearing constant negativity about the game we all play. "This game is bad", "No footsies", "Broken characters" "Just 50/50" "No AA" etc and almost nothing good about the game. This all comes from the pro-players who are usually at tournaments.

Competitively MKX has had a good support from Netherrealm and ESL but yet everyone expects this EVO to be the end of the life for the game.

Isn't it possible that all this constant bashing and negativity from the community is what is killing the game competitively. I mean how are new players going to be motivated to join the competitive scene for mkx when all they hear is bad things about the game? Maybe if the community was a little less toxic about their own game and have a positive view towards it the game could have a longer life span.
looked if this is a necro from 2015 or even 2011, surprisingly it isnt. who would bash mkx now (after the last patch) as it has finally become a viable competitive fighting game?

Wait he won his 9th ESL tournament? Dang, I must've stopped watching it then because I haven't seen anyone comment on it on youtube or anywhere. I need to keep up with ESL then.

Every game has flaws, but it doesn't stop a game from being great. However, in my opinion, this game has TOO MANY flaws and is so unbalanced that it's hard for me to like it as much as I would a Killer Instinct or Tekken for example. The hurt boxes are all over the place, the nerfs are horrendous, some characters are ridiculously safe on moves they shouldn't be and so much more. I don't know if its just people complaining about the game or if it is just a serious problem the game generally has and we all notice it.

I think 7 of those were challenger cups. And nobody seems to remember all the pro league tournaments he entered and didn't make top 8 in, which is why they say 9 in a row. It's a bit misleading.

> People traveling is what keeps the competitive community alive.
> People who are saying the game is dying are mostly people who have never/will never travel for it.
These are good points to make but I think the competitive community is as much the observers as it is the competitors. The amount of people who travel is always going to be a small, almost miniscule, portion of the community. And history has shown that people entering the tournament scene over a game's lifespan is significantly less than the people who leave within the same span. The community at large, and whether they maintain hype and momentum or crap on their own game and community, is part of that medium that raises awareness, interest and ultimately future contenders which help maintain the active competitors in a scene.

Yes, you can't have a competitive scene without competitors. But where and what are they competing (for) if no one cares?

Well, to be fair, when you have forum users talking about how they shouldn't "have to" practice against Mileena teleport kick and generally not knowing about armoring out of block against Alien strings, even all the way back to when the block and hit cancelling option selects were in and people "refused" to learn them, it's easy to begin to think that most people are just bad.

This isn't really a new thing either; the skill gaps in MK9 and Injustice were incredibly high and on average the same people placed over and over again.

The last patch made this FINALLY a "viable competitive fighting game"? That's sad and not true but i'll focus on the sad part first. Sad because the first time SF5 was released, it had some issues. After 2 or 3 weeks, it got everything fixed within a short span and the community was receiving daily basis comments from the creators of the game about it. Why the hell can't even MKX do that WITHOUT having to update the game? Plus when we DO receive "live via satellite..." streams, they're not answering our questions, they're not actually proactive about the characters (unless you deem being over the top sarcastic as legitimate "excitement") and they just suck at demonstrating what the actual character/s can do. What makes it even worst is we have our very own MK player, retire from competitive play just to join as their in-resident "tester" or "player" and yet he can't even get them to talk to us or give us updates.

Now to focus on whether or not this last patch made it viable. The last patch definitely did something to the community and to the state of the game but it's effects are detrimental to the future of this game and killer to this community. I've never seen TYM this toxic since the MK9 era of people talking about Brady and his gas station video. This community is already on it's last legs with the last patch and once EVO comes, it's going to be the final nail in the game's coffin.
