The first one is a flawed argument. The thing is, if you play a game with no competition left, can you really call yourself good at fighting games? I played ST with ST players and it was really hard for me to beat them at that game, but then SF4 I just bodied them. ST does not require less skill, it's just older and because they played it more than me, they were better at it and even today there is still enough healthy competition. No one ever critiques "shortcomings of designs anymore". People critique certain aspects of the game (most of which are fair) and say they don't like it. It has nothing to do with design flaws nowadays. But what if the game you're good at is World Warrior or Mortal Kombat 1? Compared to people playing USF4 and MK9, those other games require a lot less skill. It doesn't make them bad games, though. I think it's also fair to critique shortcomings in a game's design instead of saying that it doesn't matter how it functions as long as people enjoy playing it. Again, people enjoyed playing World Warrior and Mortal Kombat 1, but they needed fine tuning.
I think this is related to the perceived depth in a particular game, and how entertaining a game is, or how compelling the situations within a game can be, like Evo moment #37 or Snake Eyez vs Xian, Ryan Hart vs Dieminion(one of the most beautiful matches I've seen) or Kbrad beating Infiltration or Rico vs Sanford, or John Choi dominating with defense, or Daigo getting double perfected. I can't make the argument that the Street Fighter 4 series is the most technical fighting game of all-time, but I think it is currently the most compelling to watch, and that is all based around the game's design decisions.
SF is like McDonald's and MK is like Harvey's. I dig these food chains comparisons.I think of capcom games like mcdonalds. They are very popular and have a very established foundation (like mcdonalds). Games like mortal kombat are like carls jr (dnt blow me up for my comparison lol just making a point). Even though mortal kombat and carls jr are well established, they dnt have the same popularity as their more popular (because of bias and time and etc.) counterparts. Pretty much games like mortal kombat could always get bigger and more popular and etc., but since there is an instilled and reinforced bias, meeting or surpassing the popularity and etc. of capcom games (street fighter for example) will be very difficult. Just my point of view on the FGC situation #YEEEAAAPPPP
Bloom late? He was like 11 or 12 when the game came out wasnt he? Cant really fault him for being just flat out too young at the beginning of the games lifeI mean he is very good at fighting games, But I would put him at top 5 in mk9, he got good towards the end of the games life, not to take away his evo win because he did beat pl but you have to admit he did bloom late. in injustice I have him at #2 (based only on my opinion) because I think that theo can beat him. Now when MKX comes out he can take a run for the top spot. And i'm not trying to discredit him he is Still a top 5 player at whatever game he plays.
mcd's already has the bacon clubhouse, thounless carls jr unleashed tho most tastiest burger in years on the world yeeaap?
Actually he played mk9 back then. And was actually pretty good but in mk9's prime he wasn't the best.Bloom late? He was like 11 or 12 when the game came out wasnt he? Cant really fault him for being just flat out too young at the beginning of the games life
see i live in ireland mc donalds is trash , crappy portions , no refills none of that oh and everyone who works for them are barely 16mcd's already has the bacon clubhouse, tho
Apologize. M2DAVE!This thread is as bad as STORMS' REO = Daigo a couple of years ago.
As a matter of fact, this thread is worse.
The chances of Sonic Fox being potentially the greatest fighting game player of all time are as slim as Claude VonStroke having good footsies in Mortal Kombat 10.
Claude footsies must be pretty good in MK X then lol. This thread is as bad as STORMS' REO = Daigo a couple of years ago.
