From what I've seen so far (I've seen all the combos showcased in GIF form, haven't got to see the trailer yet), here is what I think:
- Leatherface: Looks a lot like Jason with his stance and one of the combos showcased. He looks just as boring and bland as I expected. He doesn't look that fun at all, in my opinion -- especially when compared to the other characters in this trailer. He really just seems like a way for WB to try and get people hyped for the new movie and make more money (easily), and nothing else. Still kinda salty that he got in and not another MK character...
- Tri-Borg: Amazing. I love how all the cyborgs look visually, and their movesets look awesome. I love them all, Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke. I'm glad that they seem to have a MK9-flair to them as well. Tri-Borg will also be adding what felt missing in this game: Robots/Cyborgs.
- Bo' Rai Cho: Not what I was wanting to see at all. I was hoping that he would still be funny, but would have a more serious moveset. Maybe spilling wine to replace the vomit? I just don't like the whole vomiting and farting thing. I also feel like this is wasted potential for a redesign -- I feel like at the end of the day people will look at him as a joke character nothing more (or at least the majority). WITH THAT BEING SAID! I do think that he looks fun, especially his staff stuff. He animates well, too. And to be fair... after seeing Bo' Rai Cho sling around Liu Kang with a staff like he was nothing, DID almost make me laugh. So there's that.
- Alien: Glad that they decided to give him Baraka's stuff, it makes him feel more like an MK character. It also takes advantage of the "what-if?" scenario more. Despite me hating the fact that there is two more guest characters in this game, I will say that Alien will probably be the best guest in the game. His moveset looks diverse and crazy, he has Baraka's stuff so he has an MK-flair, he is a "monster" character (which this game was lacking), and his tail attacks brings something truly unique and different to the game.
- The Pit: GLORIOUS!!! It looks amazing. I felt like MKX was lacking when it came to the "MK feeling". It's style was just gone. But this stage adds that back. Seeing Bo' Rai Cho and Liu Kang fight on that stage made me think "yup, this is MK!". Which is nice... really nice. This is easily my favorite stage in the game, and I haven't even played on it yet. It just adds that MK-flair that was missing from the entire game, in my opinion. Makes me wonder, though... will their be some sort of interactables? Or a Stage Brutality allowing you to knock your opponent of the bridge? Will it be one of the freebies for the Kombat Pack, kinda like how Klassic Fatalities were the freebies in Kombat Pack 1? There is still a lot of info I'm waiting on...
My general thoughts on everything is this: Being honest, it's not quite as bad as I thought it was going to be. However, it is still disappointing in a way. Although I do like how Alien looks and I feel like he does add something that felt missing, I still feel like Leatherface was a wasted "spot" and that we really didn't need anymore guests. I was also hoping that Bo' Rai Cho would still be funny but have a more serious moveset, although he doesn't look "bad" at all. Tri-Borg looks amazing, and The Pit stage is glorious.
I wanted this Kombat Pack 2 be fan service and add what felt missing. I wouldn't really call it "fan service" considering Alien, Leatherface, and Bo' Rai Cho (who is listed in the Top 10 MK chars most of the time) made it in, over characters like Fujin, Sareena, Noob, Rain, Sindel, etc. BUT! I do think it does add some stuff that felt missing. Alien is unique, Tri-Borg adds 3 Cyborgs, Bo' Rai Cho is the joke character, and possibly the best stage in the series - The Pit 2 returns, looking better than ever.
Still wondering what the 4 skin packs will be (if there is anyway). The bonus Apocalypse skins for Takeda, Erron Black, and D'Vorah sounds interesting. I wonder if they will look like Mad Max characters? Not to mention the free skins that we will probably getting. Will it be skins for the past DLC characters (Jason, Tanya, Predator, Tremor) or will it be more Klassic Skins?
