Tekken 7 General Discussion Thread - OP Updated With All Tekken Info

I must admit, I've not been at all 'hyped' for Tekken 7 in the traditional sense of the word. It's one of my all-time favourite series ever, but... it's reached the point where you know almost exactly what to expect from it gameplay-wise. Compare this to, say, SFV where it seems like almost anything could be possible, and MKX, which was a mystery right up until we actually got to play it. With Tekken 7, we already know it's not going to end up much different than Tekken 6. Sure, there's a couple of new bells and whistles like Rage Arts and Power Crush moves (I don't consider Screw Attack distinct enough from Bound to be classed as a 'new feature' tbh), but 95% of the gameplay is just more of the same. This is, of course, completely fine, given that Tekken's fighting system is very, very good... but it does make it difficult to get very excited for it.

TBH the only thing that would make me not buy this game is if Nina isn't in it - I'd probably flat-out refuse to have anything to do with Tekken again if that happened.

So on Saturday we had a special weekly where we have a tournament with another local group, I was flying solo as my training partner could not make it. In casuals and the early stages of the tourny, I was playing the best games of my life (Hitting those tricky combos, beating demons etc) everything went right.
So my next match is against capos which was ok as I won the first 2 games 3-2 then 3-1 after a bit of time at the character select screen (im assuming the other player has a coach as we are playing on a head to head setup) my opponent selects Lars (Yay) and Jinpachi. My game just totally falls apart as I go on to lose 2-3, 2-3 then 0-3. I get up to shake hands and the first person I see is my training partner just looking at me smiling, Im just standing there looking confused then my opponent who I then realize is my gf runs up, hugs me and then whispers in my ear "Bodied"

I read "GF beat me in Tekken" and all I could think was "This dude here salty his GF can play Tekken. #3dWorldProblems"

Yeah... we had a big discussion about this exact thing about a month ago in this very thread. The short version of the general conclusion is that we've basically been getting slighter shittier variations of T5: DR for years now and we're kind of tired of it.

The gameplay changes they're putting in rarely change the fundamental gameplay in any way. Armored moves would be the first new mechanic to actually make a "big" change, but even it is relatively minor. Meanwhile you have MKX and SFV reinventing the mechanics each game in fun and interesting ways.

Sadly its pretty much why, while I'll always love Tekken, I think I may finally be skipping T7. With all of the other fun new games coming out, I just cant see myself spending much time at all playing T7 before I lose my motivation and cast it aside. It's the same game I've been playing since college, and I graduated over a decade ago.

Yup, it's definitely still Tekken. Most likely the most significant news we'll get on any changes to T7 will be at the world tournament on the 12th, according to several sources. I'm not that hype because what they consider big news is usually some seriously insignificant shit. A couple days, and maybe we'll have some cool new Tekken shit to talk about... Doubtful though.

Well the thing is. I didnt even know that they were siblings but every time me and my training partner played, it was always at his place since it was closer to the place where I work. Now that I think about it, her mentioning that she had 2 brothers, saved replays and him knowing the way I play makes a lot of sense as the way she played seemed to directly counter my style. It also seemed like she was not interested is gaming.
