What's new

Any YouTube channels like CrossCounterTV / VesperArcade etc for MKX?

I never considered you at all.
I know some have twitch, but is there any channel of good players that play matches, talk about the game, explain matchups, what they did wrong, and have tutorials on characters on a regular basis?

I think it'd be really cool to see some videos of these players analyzing their matches, rather than just more or less quietly playing them. To watch them sort of "teaching" as well as playing, if it makes sense.

If I'm just missing them and anyone has links, they'd be appreciated. I'd re-link them in this first post for some visibility on TYM, to have sort of a collection of player channels for others to watch and learn.

There is nothing like CrossCounterTV for the NRS community... I wish there was but there isn't. The thing is that CCTV is a actual "show". While there are many youtube chans that show combos, or post a character tech video or something.. most are in fact just players sharing something.. there isn't really the attempt to do a "show" like cross counter dose.

As for Twitch.. most of the major twitch event chans have youtube chans that post all the videos where you can see pro play with commentary.. the biggest are probably
https://www.youtube.com/user/teamspooky (Team Spooky)
https://www.youtube.com/user/FGCSabin (Team Spooky : After Hours)
https://www.youtube.com/user/levelupseries (Level UP Series)

Some good "teaching" chans... but agan, these are more just short tutorials.
https://www.youtube.com/user/SupermanSajam (Sajam)
https://www.youtube.com/user/PNDKetchup (PNDKetchup)

I'll not list the billion combo chans.... but there is one that I think is really good for beginners as he only just easy combos.
https://www.youtube.com/user/ahmz1404 (Ahmz1404)

The only "show" I know of is Avoiding The Puddle.. it is very primitive compared to CCTV.. and it is not a gameplay thing. It is more a Podcast about the FGC, they cover all the latest hotness.

Still, I think someone should totally rip off CCTV for the NRS community!!

Thanks for the links!

It seems most of the channels are the usual, combo videos or re-uploads of tournament matches, although @PND_Ketchup's is really good! Aris is pretty funny as well.

Totally agree, I don't think it'd be too hard to do either - YOMI basically have the setup already done, just need a couch, a couple players like @YOMI MITYEAP, @YOMI DJT, @FOREVER KING, @YOMI REO, etc. to do a bit of commentary and I feel it'd get a lot of good attention for NRS / MKX, as well for some of the lesser known great YOMI players.

I definitely enjoyed watching the YOMI bunch commentate at SummerJam, if they did some ~30 minute vids for YouTube I'd bet it'd go well for them as well. Same with @PND_Ketchup and @PND_Mustard, great EU commentators; @Pig Of The Hut also does good stuff with his twitch. I learned and had fun listening to for example Brady, @Kitana Prime, @Mr Aquaman, and others I'm probably forgetting too.

Where there is smoke, there is cancer.
I was thinking about it last night. I wanted to start doing it because 1) The community needs that sort of thing I think and 2) I'd get hella views and youtube money for it lol

But I don't play at the highest level so I'm reluctant to attempt it.

Well CCTV is basically 2 retired competitors... but they used to be mid to top range. IMO what makes that show work is the guests they have who are all top tier players. That plus the editing between them on the couch and the game. It is just a cool mix, the pro, and the seasoned players with tons of years of matchup knowledge and scene knowledge and all that. It really works. I would totally do it myself, but unless you can get guests you could never copy that format.

I think PIG, The Sauce Brothers or Aries could probably pull of a actual "show" like this... I mean maybe you could as well, but I am certain they could.

The big thing is that it is a "show" and most top tier gamer dudes have things going against them. 1.. they are mostly kids (anyone under 30 is a kid), so this kind of organization and commitment is probably beyond them. 2... They are probably busy practicing, labbing and running / going to tournaments.

I think there is a reason CCTV is so unique. Still it isn't just record game footage and go... there is multiple cameras... editing.. it is a legit effort.

Are you able to play online now? I know you weren't able to a few months back.

I can not speak for kraezyx (the op) but I think many people are missing the point.

Another channel doing tutorials or copy and pasting event streams or combo demos, character tech and that is not what is being discussed here. At least not by me anyway.

I guess you're looking for the personality and entertainment that CCTV brings except with MKX?

yeah, I am pretty sure that was the OPs original focus.

I mean sure.. more chans the better.. but there are a TON of these chans all over youtube already. a CCTV style thing that is actually a SHOW.. . or an "Avoiding The Puddle" that is more than just a podcast.. is probably the next step for the community as well as for someone wishing to seriously attempt to supplement their income form making online content.

Stay Puft
A show like CCTV requires a lot of time and effort to make, MKX doesn't bring enough views to make the effort worth while. Even CCTV has to sell early access to their shows so they can actually make a living. Sure someone could try and make a show like that for free but ultimately, time is money.

Well the game is like the best selling game of 2015.. the audience pool isn't that small. CCTV makes its money from the subscription... but it isn't the GAME that drives this. You think Maximilian Dood is popular because of the games? No.. like CCTV it is all about personality, quality of production and the building of a viewer base over time.. I think the NRS community or even the FGC in general could easily support another CCTV kind of show.

The weird thing is that we don't have dedicated personalities/commentators -- but I think it's mainly due to the fact that our community is so young (4-5 years). We don't have enough people who are old and washed up yet but still travel to events.

Maybe Tom and M2Dave will eventually be those guys, but for now they're still trying to talk smack as competitors ;)

There's no Mike Ross/Gootecks/UltraDavid/Aris/Skisonic/Prog/D'Ron here yet, but we may just have to wait a few more years.

yes, that is exactly what I was trying to say in Post #5!

I think Aries has the kind of personality draw that could drive something like this.. even though he is a Tekken man he is a Fighting Game fan at heart with strong ties to the NRS community, same with UltraDavid.. even though he is really a Street Fighter. Still if you listen to them when they commentate together.. I think that is the kind of thing required. Sometimes they do not even talk about the game, but it is entertaining.

Maybe Tom and M2Dave will eventually be those guys, but for now they're still trying to talk smack as competitors ;).
No offense to those guys, I respect them, but I do not think they could run a popular channel. They are just not host material. You need some people that is entertaining, fun and upbeat. Optimistic. Those guys would just bitch about technical stuff and all that... I mean maybe not.. but judging by the behavior on TYM they wouldn't be a fun likable hosts, imo.

The key is that here it is about "entertainment" even before that games themselves.

These two quotes are exactly what I meant. And yeah, while CrimsonShadow is probably right about the age of the community, I still think there may be some, even if less competitive, players that would do well with the format. It's not like Gootecks and Mike Ross were taking the tournament scene by storm (no offense to them of course). The guests also help a lot.

I feel it would be cool if MKX could feel more "approachable" as well, and help newer players want to learn more in depth about the game - improving and expanding the community at the same time.

I guess the interest isn't too high and I'll have to get my weekly sodium dosage from just the bottom 5 discussions on forums. :p
