General/Other - Tempest Kung Lao Tempest Variation General Discussion

I agree with you! D4 is key, but do you have any other tip? Thx man! Greatly help with the d4 advice
You really need to know what just the presence of a d4 can do. Raiden will often be forced to block low and will have to overcommit himself to keep you honest. D4 on hit means pressure/grab mixup. The raiden player will have to block low eventually and that is when your b2 hat spin comes in because it is overhead. So it is basically D4(slow death) or b2 into full combo. When your opponent is really aware of your d4 option, you can just start to do your 11212/grab stuff even in a neutral state upclose, because the raiden player knows he can't just throw out f1.

Imo Tempest kung lao wins this matchup, because raiden doesn't have a good enough mid to prevent kung lao from abusing d4. His pokes can also be punished by kung laos ex spin on reversal so he has to be really careful with pokes. Kung lao has a better neutral game because of d4, f2, b3, 11212, j2 and ex spin. You also outdamage raiden, especially midscreen. Just don't do anything that is punishable, because you don't have to.

As far as the NJP stuff goes, it doesn't even hit you while youre standing and you can ex spin it as he whiffs it or trip guard him with 11212 or f2 hat spin. In what situations are you having trouble with it?

If you really want some good advice against your friend, you will have to tell me how he gets his damage in against you and be specific about it.

that´s the best possible advice you could give!

when he is minus frames, its the time he njp... i try to d4 him, but he get away
ex: f12b1 (hold) choke (-6) njp. b32(hold) njp. if i try to f2, b3, run in, i get full combo punish, sometimes the d4 hits while he is jumping and i cant convert it to anything.

but i ll practice my execution and see what happens.
thanks for the help man! :)

If he jumps while at minus upclose you need to do 11212, you can hit him out of the air and convert into spin. After shocker on block you get a tricky situation because he can also challenge you with an ex shocker. You are safe when you do a d4 in this situation. Besides D4 I usually just wait and see what happens after normal shocker on block, let them waste a meter for ex shocker. Do make sure you walk back a little so they arent in the range to just start their 50/50.

Beware your Fears
So I've been messing with this gimmick only seems to work on normal size characters (no females I guess) and characters that don't have good anti air wakeups

What you do is dash forward after a knockdown in the corner then jump back 2 you'll either avoid there wakeup and hit them or if they don't wake up you can cancel it into tele or pressure

Obviously matchup dependent bcuz wakeups and size but seems to b catching ppl

I won against him several times in a roll, the matchup is very well clarified for me now. thank you mr. pampering!
the d4 into pressure and b2 and was everything i needed to do , the vortex as reversal is dirty as counter poke.
thank you again! :)

He is not my main even though i have that name
Learn from this or not lol
this is just a straight up combo video.
I have allot of crazy setups but I still have to play some pro's in tournament very soon so I will wait on making a tech and setups video
this is it for now. enjoy

Since we all know that Tempest needs a nerf, what do you think NRS will change?

I think this would be fair:

- Ji2 hitbox reduced, his phantom hitbox needs to go...it's just ridicolous
- db1 -7 on block instead of -3
- slight damage nerf
He really dosen't need a nerf maybe just the jump 2 phantom range as some dude said so , but i do think nrs will nerf him because the community is full of whining fucks

MK1 is the best MK period.
Nice. If kung Lao had armor when he comes out of the ground from ex teleport it would be help in some mu's because more than not ex teleport is still a waste of meter because they can just knock you out of it or move because delayed ex teleport Doesn't track and you will get punished hard for spending a bar. may as well use normal teleport. Ex teleport is a bigger risk than normal teleport because not only are you committing to a unsafe move you are also spending a resource in meter. @colt
