Is Being an Online Warrior in MKX Pointless or a Waste of time?

The people who can't translate to being successful offline are probably just players who aren't actually good, they just rely on online gimmicks, or gimmicks that are even stronger online.

Foreverking brings up another good point. The ESL definitely gives the xbox people something to play for.

Online for MKX is pretty ass compared to their earlier games like Injustice, which is unacceptable. I remember when I used to play online against a variety of different players all the time and could enjoy the experience for the most part. People ask me often for Goro and Kitana experience, but because I can't even do basic shit that is important to playing these characters optimally, I just usually don't bother. Can't instant air fan consistently in a lot of terrible lag, can't punish stuff with command grab, can't even take advantage of plus 13 frames online. It's to the point that my most played modes are single fight and training mode, not online like in other titles. I think ladder is higher on my list of most played modes lol.

People I used to connect superbly with in Injustice, I can barely connect with now. There's like three people who I can connect well with online now. Being an online warrior wasn't so bad for Injustice, offline was still obviously preferred over anything else as it always will be, but for people with weird schedules that conflict with going to locals or for people who don't have a scene near them, the online could at least be semi up to modern day standards......

A lot of this is why after Summer Jam, I'm probably going to just play other titles. MGSV is coming out, gonna playthrough GTA and go back to Last of Us cause online ruined a fun game for me.
this espihoe gets it on the nose bro

I'll provide a decent example.

Online there are a lot of people who use Ermac. If there is a decent amount of delay lag you can spam D3, and if they block low, due to the delay lag you can get a free F4 which obviously launches into a full combo with a possible vortex.

Now if you rely on that and go to EVO or any other major, you're likely to get sent home without even winning a game in your pool.

MKX online still works the same but due to lag it opens the door for unrealistic tactics. If you avoid such gimmicks as D3 spam or non stop jumping, you should be fine. I've played Milkysituation online for example and he doesn't do anything that only exists because of lag. He just plays the game the way it was meant to be played.

Edit: I once got locked out of the game's servers for a day. I've never heard of not being able to get on ever. If that happens then dang, NRS.

Being an online warrior in MKX is actually wayyyy better than being an online warrior in Injustice/MK9

Online warriors in MKX can win $1000 dollars a week from the online ESL tournaments and win a chance for an all-expenses paid trip to a 100K tournament

Far from pointless haha
I cant connect to the servers most of the time so for me ESL is pointless! And I have awesome internet too so idk what else I could do!

That feel when our transatlantic connection in Injustice on PS3 was better than me playing someone who lives a few hours away from me by car on PS4 :(. I didn't even bother buying a US copy this time around cos it would've been pointless.

But being an online warrior in MKX is better than ever. You can earn up to $500 every week and all you need is a piss-poor connection.

My victories. Tell me when you found the lag.

By the way, I am working on hosting a tournament in Germany. I would love to welcome (destroy) you offline.

If you can find people that don't play "online" then it's a very valuable tool. Playing people that mash even after they get hit is a different story, if you are serious about preparing for tournaments then you're wasting time playing those people.

Normalize grab immunity.
I got MKx on PC and PS4. So I don't get ESL. I just get to deal with who knows how much delay and there's a chance people in the US connect worse than say someone in Europe. PC port is awful as far as port goes. I've been playing Rocket League and Rising Thunder more than MKx soley because the online is far superior. All this coupled with odd input decisions makes waking up a hassle so after getting hit on wakeup 4 times straight cause EX doesn't come out I just have enough.

MKx is fun and for the offline guys and the xbox players who can manage to get online they can play for money and make the purchase worth it. Me on the other hand am just waiting for SFV and T7 to come out. So I can play the same game as tourney goers.

If you're having fun dealing with MKx online then by all means go ahead and keep dealing with it. If not, well there are a few fighters with far better online that people actively play.

I think if you have an offline alternative then that would obviously be better. And on Xbox One a lot of people can't even play the online because of a bunch of issues and bugs. But I think if you dont have offline as an option(although I would always suggest trying to build your own scene first) then I think it would be up to you whether you can tolerate online or not. I stopped because personally every time I tried playing it I got mad and didnt feel like I learned anything. But I would say give it a shot and if you feel like its fun/your learning something, stick to it.
Do you have any advice, or know of any guides/resources for someone who wants to "try to build their own scene"? I'd definitely be interested in starting something up in my area, I just don't even know where to begin. The closest thing is about an hour off (which admittedly isn't terrible), but even that isn't particularly large.

i play online solely because I feel that being able to flex with the ultimate handicap is good practice. I spend plenty of time offline so that way I can be sure all of my inputs aren't jeopardized when I can pull them all off. being a user of Mr. Zero, if I can't corner an opponent and connect combos, I have to rely on 30% max mid screens or shorter...and sometimes I can't make the catches on those even...but experience is experience.

If you want to ENJOY playing fighting games ONLINE -- MKX IS A SORRY FUCKING EXCUSE!

No, playing online isn't a waste of time for all FGs. Killer Instinct, Skullgirls, and even USF4 are good online. MKX is just garbage online and NRS do not care at all to produce a halfway decent netcode.

In turn, fuck NRS. As much as I enjoy the series...they're shit developers. Glitch galore, stupid fucking hitbox bullshit, online is a steaming pile of shit for all their games, and the complete inability to address this shit AFTER THEIR 3RD FUCKING SUCCESSFUL GAME IS BULLSHIT. Fuck the company. I'm done with their shit.

They don't give two shits about the 'competitive community' despite their continual mantra regarding this. They want the casual fanbase and they've got them. That's all they care about because those people produce $$$ for NRS...they're just going to buy the shit and trade it back in to gamestop once they're too annoyed with the game so they have no incentive to give a shit. Will this change? Fuck no.

There's a reason why the rest of the FGC shits all over Mortal Kombat because they've accepted what a fucking joke this company is.

I'm a rank 80 on Xbox one with about a general 85pct win rate, as someone who has played this game extensively online; this game is an absolute piece of unplayable phucking shyt online & I'm phucking done with this game until either a better netcode comes (which it won't) or if they release Spawn. The netcode was literally the reason why I sold MK9!! Now here we are in MKX & it's still the same reason I don't play MK online now. As a MK fan I'm deeply disappointed that Boon doesn't give a single phuck about anyone who doesn't go to locals...

at least in SF you can boot people from your endless lobbies with obvious shit connections...and the netcode is cool.
In all honesty, I suck at SF but at least I can play it. I lose because I suck and I can accept that. With NRS' games? I lose because I can't even do combos online, lag tactics dominate playing online, frame date is ALL OVER THE PLACE, and then the game will probably just desync mid match anyways. These games are the most aggravating god damn thing I have ever experienced online and their inability to produce a decent netcode when every other company can is bullshit. Rising Thunder is a FREE GAME AND HAS A BETTER NETCODE.

The entire FGC needs to just flat out boycott their next game. NRS won't give a fuck until they've lost money. Stop supporting them...I didn't buy this hunk of shit because I figured it'd be the same bullshit all over again. And if they go bankrupt yet again? GOOD!

They deserve it at this point in my opinion. This isn't MK9; the 'oh they're new to this' excuse doesn't hold anymore.
