Could "Ultimate Mortal Kombat X" be coming? [SPECULATION]

Okay, so first off, you should keep in-mind that this is ALL speculation and theory (like the title says). You should also keep in-mind that I think there's a chance of this happening, but I think there's a even bigger chance that this won't happen. But I would still like to discuss this and see what you guys think.

Anyway, I think there's a chance we could be getting Ultimate Mortal Kombat X -- an updated 2016 version of the game which includes new content/features/changes.

Before I get to the point, first let's take a look at some content/changes that MKX could be getting:
  • Ed Boon has been hinting at more additional characters on Twitter. Some of these hints include Rain, Sindel/Sareena, Noob Saibot, as well as hints towards guest characters like Alien and Terminator, plus some slight hints towards Bo' Rai Cho, Baraka, Cyrax and Sektor. There has also been more hints towards other characters. Keep in-mind that some of these character are unlikely, but others are more likely. Obviously, I doubt we will be getting all of these.
  • It's safe to assume that we will be getting more skin packs as well. We know already there's a chance we could be getting a Klassic Tremor skin.
  • Coding for the Klassic "Pit" stage was found in the PC version of the game. Ed Boon has also mentioned Klassic stages returning on Twitter.
  • I remember NRS talking about how they "wired up" MKX to allow for additional Variations later down the road if they wanted them. I also remember Ed asking people if they wanted to see more Variations on Twitter. However, I can't find a link to these discussions. Anyway, people seemed to like the idea of more Variations, so it's possible we could get more.
  • Ed Boon has hinted at a "Story Pack" on Twitter. A pack that could feature characters from the Story (Rain, Sindel, Baraka, etc). Could a "Story Pack" also include more chapters?
  • Additional matchmaking options were found in the game's coding.
Obviously, we might not (probably) won't be getting ALL of these things. Also, things like the additional matchmaking options and Klassic Tremor skin can be added to the game through free updates. But things like characters, skin packs, stages, variations, and story pack(s) we will need to pay for.

Anyway, to actually make a point about UMKX happening, Ed Boon made an odd hint towards a "2016 version of MKX". He could just be hinting at a "Komplete Edition" for MKX, but I don't know... it just seems kinda weird to be hinting towards that already. I mean, more content HAS to be coming right? Why would he be hinting at a "Komplete Edition" when all of the DLC or whatever hasn't even been released? At this point it is super safe to assume we will be getting AT LEAST a couple characters or skin packs. But they have been hinting at even more... What if this "2016 version of MKX" is actually Ultimate Mortal Kombat X?

And think about it; if a Kombat Pack 2 ever happened, it would probably just contain 4 characters and 4 skin packs like KP1, right? Well NRS has been teasing even more. What if NRS/WB decide to go all out and add even more content through UMKX? More than just 4 characters, new skins for all/most of the characters (including the new character introduced in MKX, like the Kombat Kids), more stages, more story chapters, more variations, changes menus, balance/system changes, etc... Ultimate Mortal Kombat X could be available as a digital upgrade for players who already own a copy of the game, but it would also get a physical release maybe?

Also, don't forget, MKX has been more successful than MK9 or Injustice. MKX is also the best selling game of 2015 right now. MKX has been more than "successful" and both NRS and WB knows that people are wanting more content. A LOT more content -- content that people are willing to pay for. So just saying, why not? I mean, seriously, why not? Street Fighter IV stayed alive for longer because of editions, what if Mortal Kombat would go down the same path? And why would it be a bad thing? Would you rather pay $30 for only 4 characters and 4 skin packs, or pay $30 for a digital upgrade and get more than just 4 characters, skin packs, plus addition content and changes? I know which one I would rather pay for: And that's Ulimate Mortal Kombat X. I also think UMKX would be more exciting than just DLC, and like I mentioned, I think it would keep the game alive for longer. I also feel like it would allow NRS/WB to fix some of the mistakes they made with the base-game.

Of course all of this is big "what if"s. Like I said, a KP2 is more likely than UMKX. But there's always a chance, right? What do you think? Do you think the "2016 version of MKX" is just a Komplete Edition? Or maybe even the delayed Last Gen versions? If we are getting more content, what do you think we will be getting exactly? And when do you think we will get an actual announcement about more content?

This is more likely. But man, I would prefer UMKX over KP2. I just feel like there's some much they could do with this game. But you are right. We will probably just get more DLC, then a Komplete Edition, and then after all of that the game will die, and Injustice: Gods Among Us 2 comes out. That game will get DLC, a "Ultimate Edition", then it will die, and another NRS game will come out.

I just wish NRS would try to keep their games alive for longer. :(

I wish NRS didn't have a pattern. Everything they do can be expected. I know Injustice will be announced next year, and I know it will be released the year after. I know it will have a 4-character "Season Pass" like usual, and probably more content after that. It just sucks that there's a "pattern", I wish NRS/WB would just improve. Try out new things to make their games better.

They're making a lot of money with this formula so they're not going to change a winning recipe. I just want UMK9. So so much.

And that's exactly what I hate. I hate it when it becomes about money. Sure, I understand they have to make money. But why take it to the point where you change nothing? The only thing they have done differently is packing more content into the Season Pass so we will have to pay for more, and they also increased the prices of the skin packs.

I HATE IT when it becomes about "Let's see how much money we can make off of this" other than "Let's see what we can do to improve and add to this".

Boon tweeted about a Lincoln MKX last year and a few weeks later, MKX was revealed.

I know he's a serious troll and stuff but making the same tweet about a Lincoln MKX in 2016 is kinda interesting.

A GOTY is surely to come after all DLCs and patchs are out. How will they keep extending extend this game's life cycle after one full year? No idea, but i think they will come up with something to keep it alive. I'm thinking we won't get a Komplete not until the Q2 of next year.

For the amount of kontent that's being teased, I'd say UMKX is really likely to show up too. When I think about it, it's much better for them than releasing two new KPs or just making fans satisfied with 4 kharacters aimed at many different tastes. People are very vocal about their choices, must be hard to come up with 4 kharacters that are not causing any more trouble with requests.

Stages as DLC have been rarely seen in fighting games I played, the only way I saw them being introduced was through upgrade, that would be Ultimate Mortal Kombat X. Don't know if they would sell too much stages as stand alone DLC, an upgrade sounds much more like a better idea to introduce 4 stages (I expect it to be the minimum amount), 6~8 kharacters (2 KPs) and more kontent like costumes for DLC (for free via upgrade), story chapters and many other stuff. So yeah, IF we're getting this huge amount of kontent, then we'll obviously have UMKX. Otherwise, we'll end up with one more KP and that's that.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this.. Khaotik is right, Boon did the same thing last year. They could be releasing the KP2 within the next few months and that's the ultimate edition boon is talking about. Whatever it is, we really need a patch or some news. It's getting so boring around here lol (besides the WC/King PL/Fox hype ofc)
