Whats with some jump attacks hitting mid?

So ive been wondering for a while why certain jump attacks hit mid some times. My theory is that it only happens on the last couple active frames of the jump attack. so far ive only been able to get out on attacks with a swinging motion (laos jump 2 for example) but I've been wondering is this a bug or just some weird design choice?

Heres some vids to show what i mean.

You weren't on frame bro
I think they did this to avoid any instant overhead attack shenanigans if you do like a deep jump 2 to where your character falls then it's an overhead if you do a jump 2 early it's a mid which in my opinion is smart imagine playing a Lao that at the start of a match did instant jump 2 and it was overhead...... It would be dumb

Basically, jump in moves don't become overheads until after your apex of your jump arc. So jump ins with bigger hitboxes if timed properly *or improperly, I guess* result in a mid instead of an overhead.

That seems odd. Why not just make the whole move an overhead?

They did it because some characters don't have an over head and don't want them to do instant jump attacks to compensate for it.

I didnt even realize this was a thing, do you have any examples of it hitting mid more often with certain characters

Yeah its mostly with characters with jump attacks that have larger hitboxes as was said before. I tried it with kitana, liu and shinnok and couldnt get it. However kung jins njp does this pretty frequently.

I ain't got time to bleed.
On the way up it's a mid, on the way down it's an OH. If not characters like Takeda, Quan chi, D'Vorah, Kung Jin would have insane Launching OHs with NJPs.
