AI/Practice Options

Hi all,

New fg player here.. just wondering if there was brief guide available to assist with how to better use AI/Practice options when in lab. It seems there are many scenarios and I dont use the options optimally.

thanks for any help,

Icey

It depends on what you're trying to learn really.

If you're trying to find holes in strings/pressure pick a character like Cassie (flip kick) or jax (dash punch) and set them to reversal and/or wakeup.

If you're trying to see how punishable a move is, whether it's your move or the opponents, record the AI to do that move and then you block and practice/make a punish combo and do it until you land it consistently.

Set the AI to auto block to see where in your pressure\strings they can block, and counter poke.

Lastly, I can't stress this enough... if you're learning a new character or new combos, after practicing, go into endless tower and practice those situations and see how far you make it. Once you lose lab again, and then see if you can make it further than the 1st time.

I'd say go into player match rooms but... learning a new character online can be daunting. Learn it first then take it online to level up the online game.

These are exactly the situations I would like to learn. thanks for getting me on the right track, greatly appreciated!!!

Ok, let's say you see a combo being done in an online match, like say one of Kung Lao's. How do you set up practice/ai options to simulate that?

I dont know if you are asking me, feels like im being quizzed lol... I would go to record AI then do that string/combo after searching what it is. Then I would go into regular lab and commence to attempt to block it and find ways to punish it as the AI is doing what I recorded... sound right?

Thanks for answering Iceysparkz. I guess I need to learn how to record ai. I've never done it before.

I wish there was a guide on practice/AI options. It seems as if there is an art to setting it up and 'labbing'. I see it done on twitch sometimes and wonder how they're setting stuff up so they can learn from it.

I totally get your struggle which is why I asked about it. I tabbed across and saw record and experimented to see what it does. Im going to search YouTube and see what I find there as well :)

I can help also if you're on xbox: Aqueous Echo.

It's simple to record. You'll got to AI options and cycle through tabs until you get to record. You'll then takeover the opponent and everything you do is recorded so you'll want to immediately jump into the strings that you're having an issue defending. Once done you'll hit start (I believe) to stop recording and it'll start playback. When it starts playback you'll takeover your character and start defending against your recorded AI

Ok, so I tried recording a combo so I can figure how to punish it and it was hard setting it up! I had several pauses and didn't get the combo correctly set up after many tries! Is there an easier way to do it?

One thing I hope is in future training modes for the this very reason is that you can pick a character to practice against and scroll through combos either by ppl uploading them or default combos developers came up with and the ai will do that without you having to record it yourself.

I think this would help because if you Dont main that character sometimes you can't get the combo down perfectly or even frame perfect so it could be different or you think you can counter with X tatic but really you cant

From step 1.

Select opponent you want to go against.

Once in practice go to "AI settings" and press rb until RECORD option appears.

Once ready to record press B until you're back in the match and immediately go into the string you're trying to punish/learn. You can do whatever u want in the 60 secs of recording and as many times as u want. Run the combo indefinitely if u need to.

Once done with recording hit the "back button" to end it which will give you control over your character and you can start your labbing

Before recording a new combo to understand how to counter it. Go into the practice as the character and learn the combo. Then when you feel you have it down go to practice options > controlling player choose 2> then accept the changes. Start recording the combo then.

I can agree with this. Maybe at the least set the AI to do a certain string into a certain special. Just for simplicity sake.

Also, I wish they'd add the online buffer option like some other fighters. That way you can set it to "online mode" and see what works online and what doesnt

Indeed I do remember HutDezal. I won't say I "beat your ass" cause honestly I can't remember lol. There were so many ppl I played in the final days of MK9.

Also, Shinnok is a pain especially online sometimes. Don't worry about that guy. Everyone in the KOTH was talking about his connection cause when he left everything was fine connection/latency wise.

If you ever wanna spar or run some sets HMU man. I'd be glad to run some and show you anything you may need help on.
