Question - A-List Johnny Cages! How long did it take you to get the SKRC's down?

Not Good Enough
I'm having so much trouble with doing this consistently. I've gotten to the point where 12[1] and F3[4] are certainly doable online for me, but cancels like 11~SKRC or D4~SKRC feel like absolute hell to perform. I've been playing JC for two weeks and I've been practicing quite a lot with him. Also, if there are any tips or timing tricks you could tell me, that would be good. Thanks in advance!

I've been an A List cage main since day 1, it took me about 3-5 weeks to perfect the cancels...always use f3 skrc because it leaves you more + than f3 rc. My only tip is practice doing them without looking at the screen to get the muscle memory, so when you play online, you dont have to worry about timing. Also the timing is slightly different for on hit vs on block, so practice those.

Wow, the blind practice sounds like a really good idea. Condition the fingertips. And thanks for that info. It'll come in handy when I practice on the AI. Gives more elements to the lab time if I have him blocking.

I'd suggest starting out with f24skrc and getting that down first. Probably the easiest skrc to do. Similar to Kabal's nomad dash cancels in MK9, there are different timings on hit and block, as well as ways to buffer inputs. Remember you have to hold the 4 to actually get the charge, otherwise you'll just get a regular shadowkick if you tap it. You need to hold the 4 for as short as possible.

f24skrc - you can start buffering the sk as the 4 is coming out. The cancel should be done right after the 4. Inputs: f24+b f 4(hold) f f+block
21skrc - this one is pretty easy as well. Needs to be somewhat quick and can be buffered. Inputs: 21+b f 4(hold) f f+block
113skrc - this one is actually delayed and you need to input the shadow kick pretty much once the 3's animation is almost done. I don't really buffer for this one
f2skrc - needs to be quick for this input. You can buffer for this as well and it needs to be quick. Inputs: f2+b f 4(hold) f f+block
f3skrc - easy to get the f34rc by accident. You should see a slight charge if you did the sk correctly. Inputs: f3+b f 4 (hold) f f+block
114skrc - similar to the 113skrc, you need to input the shadowkick near the end of the animation for the 4
4skrc - similar to f2skrc
d4skrc - I like to charge the 4 for this one while the d4 is coming out. Inputs: d4 (hold 4) b f f+block

You can buffer in every string/normal actually, but if you buffer in 113/114/333 fast, you just have to wait the sk to start to input anything or it will stop the buffer!

So you just have to do 113xxBF4[hold 4](wait till sk start)~f,f+block.

This is a extremely helpful thread. Been trying to learn A-List for about 3 days now and have been having trouble with the SKRC.

I'm new to this and I don't have a good understanding of frame data, so I am wondering how you can figure out that skrc is more advantageous than regular rc on his f3? Also, if possible, can you think of a situation where regular rc would get you into trouble but skrc would not?

@BoricuaHeat tested it. You can see the details in this thread:

They're both good but f3skrc just gives you more block advantage, thus making followups generally safer if done correctly.

There it is...
honestly just keep at it and it will suddenly click.

I spent about 2-3hours playing a bot on practice so i could get it under pressure.

you need to get used to using it in practical conditions

I practiced doing f3skrc, went online, and kept dropping it and got trashed.

Went "fuck it" and started doing f3RC instead and got much better results.

Did this happen to anyone else, or are all the good players sticking with f3skrc?

Who said that all the good players use F3SKRC? F3RC is better, f3 and S1 are still guaranteed options after it so it works fine.
Also, when you use f3SKRC instead of f3RC, the combo damage for an unknown reason always drops by 2-3%.

Interesting, I didn't know the damage decreased. I always tried to do f3skrc because f2 would be guaranteed if it was done perfectly, but maybe it's just better to go with f34rc since it's easier and leads to more damage.
