What's new

Hi, Im new to fighting games. Terminology help?

Hey everybody. New to fighting games, really enjoying mkx. Have it on Xbox one. Even got the hori fight stick. I'm starting to execute a few smaller combos. But I have zero knowledge for the terminology. And want to start working on learning a few characters in specific better. Was searching on forums and had found a link but it didn't quite cover everything. Being on mobile doesn't help much. If anyone could even just give me a link that'd be fine! Cheers.

Thanks. Not exactly what I was looking for but answers a bunch of other questions about things I heard during the evo stream lol. I need like a translation for the combos to hit them on a controller. It's all letters n numbers.

Xbox: 1 = X, 2 = Y, 3 = A, 4 = B.
PS4: 1 = Square, 2 = Triangle, 3 = X, 4 = O.

The letters are generally directional inputs. D = down, B = Back, F = Forward, U = Up.

Up - U
Down - D
Back - B
Forward - F

The following is for ps4, just translate it to Xbox controller

Square -1
Triangle - 2
Cross - 3
Circle - 4

MB - meter burn
xx - just a way to separate

Just a quick reference. Most threads should have it. If not check the Mileena combo list, they have it in the OP

What specific fighting game terms did you want clarification on. I can probably help you. Have you heard people throwing specific terms out that you did not understand? Let me know hopefully I can help

This is what I was going to ask. OP...you need to be more specific. There are literally so many fighting game terms, we really wouldn't know where to begin. Most people on here could answer just about anything for you if you ask a specific question, though.

Between the link jersey posted and the 2 posts with the commands that what I was needing and more now.

Thanks!!

Sorry for not being so specific guys. But thanks for being so helpful to a nub like me. Hopefully off to hitting good % combos soon.
