M2Dave

Zoning Master
Contributor (AKA “The Ultra David”)
The contributor is a well-respected member of the community who consistently posts valuable information about the game, the characters, and the match ups. This person always follows proper netiquette on the forums and avoids controversy but may occasionally be involved in game-related arguments. The contributor has great influence over the follower.

Downplayer (AKA “The Wound Cowboy”)
The downplayer assumes the role of somebody who uses a terrible character, fights nothing but disadvantaged match ups, and constantly complains about how nobody recognizes the hardships. Talk about “no options” in certain match ups is very common. In reality, the downplayer often uses a high mid tier character or a low top tier character who is perfectly capable of placing top 8 at a major tournament, or even win with a little bit of luck. The downplayer is frequently regulated by the match up cop.

Drunk (AKA “The FOREVER KING”)
The drunk is usually a solid player who rarely posts on TYM, at least while sober. While under the heavy influence of either Captain Morgan or Jägermeister, or both, the drunk is much more likely to post for unknown reasons. The result is verbal diarrhea and run-on sentences that last for various days. Not surprisingly, the drunk drinks heavily during off-line events and may therefore miss pools the next morning and lose valuable personal items such as controllers, shoes, underwear, and so on.

Follower (AKA “The DMS”)
The follower is a parrot who usually repeats what the contributor or a high level player says. This person has very few, if any, original ideas. The follower’s thought process may be described as follows. If the contributor wakes up tomorrow morning and says “the sky is pink” and makes such a thread on TYM, the follower will think “Well, damn, I mean, it kind of looks blue like it usually does, but Ultra David says it’s pink so it must be true. I’ll just agree with him and get some likes”

Fucboi (AKA “The TakeAChance”)
The fucboi is an individual who cannot cope with the competitive aspect of fighting games. This emotional and triggered person often equates the community’s members to “mean girls” each time drama or a negative situation arises. Complaints, occasionally cryptic in nature, are normally provided in status updates and may include irrelevant and boring personal trivia that has absolutely nothing to do with video games.

Match Up Cop (AKA “The 16 Bit”)
The match up cop is usually a revered and successful tournament player who is well-liked by the community. The primary function of the match up cop is to supervise the character sub forums on TYM. When inaccurate match up numbers are posted, the match up cop must act accordingly and police the individuals responsible. Because of the large amount of feces routinely spewed by the downplayer, the online warrior, and the theoretician, the match up cop is on many occasions directly in conflict with these three individuals.

Old School Legend (AKA “The Juggs”)
The old school legend is obsessed with UMK:3 and lives in the early 90s. This person promises to play the newest Mortal Kombat game but always comes to the same conclusion – modern Mortal Kombat games are scrubby and no Mortal Kombat game will ever be as good as UMK:3. Delusions of self-aggrandizement are recurring and include imaginary past accomplishments that no person can corroborate and fantasies about “fathering” the modern Mortal Kombat community, which would otherwise not exist today.

Online Warrior (AKA “The Ra Helios”)
The online warrior is a player who only plays on PSN and XBL and refuses to attend off-line events. This person insists that no differences exist between off-line and online gameplay and that online latency is simply an illusion and an excuse for losing. As a result, the online warrior demands recognition for online achievements and may frequently request that you “report your scores” versus another player so that an accurate match up chart can be established. With the right endorsement, the online warrior may ascend to a super online warrior. See below.

Super Online Warrior (AKA “The Rebelo”)
The super online warrior is an ascended online warrior. This form may only be attained by @Pig of the Hut’s endorsement. If you fight Pig online and win, you officially achieve the super online warrior status. At this moment, you are regarded as a high level player in the NRS community and must therefore place top 8 at a major event, even if you never participated in an off-line tournament before. If you do not place top 8, the community will blow you up and your life will subsequently be miserable.

Theoretician (AKA “The Zoidberg”)
As the name suggests, the theoretician does nothing but theorize about the game, the characters, and the match ups. This individual frequently tests a top tier move or strategy in controlled conditions (i.e., practice mode) and offers impractical solutions, so that, for example, the community is led to believe that Scorpion’s 20 frame teleport can be MB b+3’ed on reaction or that Martian Manhunter’s overhead teleport can be forward dashed on reaction. In a few extreme instances, the theoretician may not own the DLC, or even the game, but will nonetheless proceed to make predictions about the game, the characters, and the match ups.

TYM Troll (AKA “The REO”)
Identically to a regular internet troll, the TYM troll makes controversial game-related threads and posts in order to elicit a quick emotional response from community members. The TYM troll is highly skilled and trained. This person knows how to construct a nonsensical argument by adding a certain degree of validity, which creates doubt in the mind of the reader. Common TYM troll strategies include exaggerated reactions to the most recent hotfix or patch, questioning the “fundamentals” of players who use a particular character, demanding that certain NRS employees be fired on the spot for normalizing a character, and so on.

Online Scrub Lord
