General/Other - Tanya Tanya SHOULD be normalized.

What do you think about the normalizations?

I just think the majority of Tanya complainers are shit players to begin with. I mean...so she's hard to catch. Boo fucking hoo. She is less than adequate up close (except for Kobu, which probably should be nerfed).

Air mobility such as hers cannot hurt you. Unless you suddenly forgot how to block, anti air, or simply walk away and punish.

And for the players who are in fact good that are complaining about her...she already lost her armored EX teleport. That's more of a nerf than Erron Black, Sonya, Jin, Kung Lao, Jax, Cassie, etc.,

You guys are just lazy and cant stand a character that flips the script on the already bland meta of the game. This is why I supported ice clone even though I mained Unbreakable.

Tanya was sent to test you all...and you all failed MISERABLY.
The invincibility on aerial teleports is annoying, especially if you make the correct read to anti-air and then get blown up because it hits during one of her many invincibility frames.

In terms of aerial mobility, it's Pyro's thing, she needs it in this variation. I'm not sure she needs invincibility or for it to be 1 frame (if it actually is 1 frame mind you) but a stamina hit on her teleport would completely destroy her meter building and her (punishable on read) runaway game.

I main Kenshi so i'm ok with Tanya but really dude i have no idea how can you find two non-stop teleporting Tanyas entertaining to watch at any tournament. People were like facepalming when that happen at CEO. To the point that they started counting her teleports.... If you like something this then.... you should switch to Marvel. There's plenty of that.

Meta of MK X is a bit disappointing i will admit that but i doubt that 50% of top 8 playing Tanya is the answer.

Half of the first top 8 after she'd been released, where barely anyone has any idea what to do against her teleports, and where two of the 4 who used her had to resort to secondaries when Tanya failed, and where a Tanya player didn't even win...

CEO isn't exactly the best proof of how OP Tanya is honestly.

I respectfully but completely disagree.

If you dont currently play a game, and you see a top 8 that is a crazy-looking mess where half of the players are using the same character, you dont think to yourself, "hey, that looks fun! I'm totally gonna get that game, break that character down, and I'll show em all!" You do what a lot of players did after Injustice's first Evo - you think, well, that was lame. Aint touchin that!

The exact opposite happened last year with Blazblue. The top 8 had awesome character variety and showcased an amazing set of different character and player styles. The insane hype of that top 8 was single-headedly responsible for making me run out and buy the game after Evo.
And to me, that's an ignorant stance for a viewer to take.

It doesn't take a huge intuitive leap to see a top 8 with multiple occurances of a character and think, "that character looks very strong, i wonder how they work?"

I'm sorry, but people basing whether or not to invest time in a game off one tournament Probably weren't fans of the franchise to begin with.

Especially since by the time EVO happens, even a casual viewer can see that the whole roster is not complete.

"Looks like they have one more dlc left. Wonder if hr can beat this Tanya?"

I'm sorry, but i don't think first-to-two sets in a high stress, high stakes environment where even top players miss punishes, drop combos, make mistakes, should be weighed as heavily as people place on it.

This works both ways, dunno why people forget about that.

Sure players didn't have much experience fighting against her but on the flip side people who play her will get better with her and only God and Boon knows how much more dirt with her they gonna find.

Also it's pretty clear which character(s) hard counter Tanya, so what's the point? This will basicaly means that tournament players will have to learn / have pocket Lao which is already super strong but not so often used by many. This will however change if Tanya become more dominant.

So yeah, there is always the flip side...

I don't know if that's a good way to frame it. Sure, a lot of people didn't know how to fight Tanya, no one can argue that. But it's also pretty likely that no one really knows how to play Tanya yet. People will get better and punishing teleport and Tanya players will get better at using teleport. It's a versatile move and it's hard to say how the meta will develop. Plus you have to factor in that the Tanya players are probably lacking much indepth knowledge in most match ups as well and basic stuff like conversions and combos and set ups and even just general use of her tools is going to improve significantly.
And as far as not winning and people having secondaries, I would point out people have been playing their secondaries longer than Tanya so it makes sense to fall back on them and that most of the Tanya's got knocked out by other Tanya's. Honestly there's probably a strong argument to made that DJT is the only person who can fight Tanya right now.

There's a decent chance things will get worse, not better, by Evo if there's not another patch

To be fair, I had just learned the "match up" roughly thirty minutes prior to finals grinding out a few games with Deg so I won't speak on what actually needs "nerfing" but that tele spam man....

Please make that cost a bar of stamina at the least. Mobility is so important in this game and she can do whatever she wants with little to no consequence. I mean, why back dash or forward dash? lol Regardless, I'll lab it up and try to find answers for her. She doesn't seem debilitating to my character, just overwhelming at the moment due to lack of knowledge.
Maybe backdash shouldn't cost stamina or as much stamina? Block breaker shouldn't cost stamina or as much stamina

Perhaps the game designed mobility poorly in a game that was suppose to be mobility heavy? Give other characters better mobility.

And Shinnock does well against her Imposter struggles the least however because of trance restands and he gets her MB spiral arrow.

To some extent, but it's much easier to develop a character's gameplan in isolation in practise mode than it is to learn how to fight against a character with no one to grind against. In other words, it's easier to learn how to play a character than it is to learn how to play against said character.

Aw ok. So based on the crowds reaction we should take away the one thing that makes her unique?

So what should we Tanya mains recieve in compensation for her Teleport inevitably being nerfed into the ground?

I'm thinking maybe a fire clone? Maybe Erron Black-esque blockstrings? Jax like pressure?

Nerf the teleport and she will die.

This all really, really sucks for people who actually like the character and don't just play her because she's strong. I agree that what happened at CEO was kind of ridiculous, and that having so many Tanya players is a huge indication that something needs to be done. However, NRS is horrible about nerfing a character way too hard and making them nearly unplayable. Remember Scorpion from Injustice? Yeah, so do I, unfortunately. And I fear that the same will happen to Tanya. She's got a strong toolset, and instead of balancing things out she will probably be slowed down and made extremely unsafe to ensure that she doesn't touch Top 8 at EVO. Perhaps I'm being pessimistic. It just sucks to think that the one character who I've really clicked with could be stripped of what makes her good. Guh.

Oh yeah, first-time poster here. Hi guys.

You can't have it all. That's the basic rule and Tanya atm has it all.

Wanna keep teleport the way it is now? No problem, nerf her strings (especially in Kobu), dmg and its gonna be ok.

I never promote "destroying" characters by nerfing them to ground. And i get that many people like her. I'm really ok with her. She's just to strong atm / has to much. Nothing more.

Oh yeah, first-time poster here. Hi guys.

Welcome!

And I totally agree. @Awkward Sloth @Vak Phoenix @Arkayne and myself have been waiting for Tanya for years!

Sonic fox, MIT, REO and CDJr will all move on to Predator, Tremor, and or the old top tiers once she gets nerfed.

It sucks for those of us who actually love her.

Nope, you cant have it all. Which is why her teleport does not deserved to be touched at all.

And lol. Outside of Kobu, her strings are weak.

Edit: I have no problem with them removing her invincibility frames.

Weak? Damn i wish my character (Kenshi) had such weak strings, especially like Tanya in DN (beside obvious Kobu).

I main DN. Tell me...which strings specific to that variation do you find stellar? B3,2? B1,2? Pogo stance? Lol.

What strings are too strong?

In fairness, i dont have any problems with her or the teleport post patch and people do need to study her more. However, this top 8 looked silly and raised the issue of "is it most of the cast that cant deal with the teleport or most of the players?". Only time will tell.

You know very well that nobody in this community supports zoning based gameplay as I do. But Tanya is clearly broken. CEO had four Tanya players in the top 8. Every set except DJT (Tempest Kung Lao) versus Sonic Fox (Outlaw Erron Black) involved Tanya. What pre-patch Scorpion was to Injusice Tanya is currently to Mortal Kombat X. This character is a potential game, scene, and tournament killer.
