MKX plus frame clarification

Hey guys, just have a question. I may be missing something. But why are people able to armor/backdash after plus frames? example. I do b2 ex rune which is +16, then i do 21, which is an 8 frame startup. Why are people able to armor or backdash after rune? I should have 8 frames to do whatever i want to do. Am i misunderstanding something? Not sure who to tag so ill tag @GGA 16 Bit and @colt

Only reason they would be able to do a thing like this is if EX Rune isn't really +16 (I believe its more like +10) and you are late in doing 21.

I haven't tested 21 specifically but I know for sure b3 is inescapable after ex rune. Unless there's a strange hit box issue the only explanation is you are pressing 21 too late

Yeah I just used 21 cause it's his fastest, but ppl seem to be able to backdash b3 as well. CPU seems to armor me after too. Maybe it's just a timing thing I'm messing up. As long as I know I'm not missing a game mechanic I'll keep trying

Just tested it real quick now in case there was a stealth change; both 21 and b3 are still inescapable after EX rune. Just to make sure.

I'm not sure what properties back dash has exactly but its kind of weird. You can also back dash out of kung Lao's ex hat on block which is +27, although you can't armor.
