What's new

Let's talk: MKX on PC

Have you tried lowering the resolution? Even with the vanilla release, that's what did it for me. GeForce Experience recommended I play at 1600x900 as opposed to 1080p, and bam, _massive_ improvement. The game was pretty much silky smooth with everything else _maxed_.

The Jason patch reduced this performance, but it was still quite playable. Now with the Tanya patch, it's silky smooth for me again provided I set my Vertical Sync to nVidia Adaptive, and almost so if I used Fixed.
I think it's more a problem they have with terrible optimization with ATI cards and especially multiple ATI card setups (which is what I have). I might give a lower resolution a try but I feel like that is asking quite a lot on their part.

570 / 8 = instant decline :DOGE
therefore => room matches
there are actually some quite decent players
Is there a test your might steam matchmaking thread?

I can't take the declines and laggy matches anymore. Anyone plz for the love of God add me, Steam ID: D4Gamerz

Hmm, the only reason it would crash is if you don't have the latest patch downloaded, or I haven't found the correct pointers to the memory addresses. If the 2nd one is the problem, it should present itself on my machine eventually, and I can narrow down the address pointers.

Anybody else crashing?
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198042012689/ You can see here my game is legit, i even have all dlc bought legit. And cloud it crash becuse of the custom skins for characters?

Ohh don't worry those of us who have NVidia haven't been having a better time with MKX, till the Tanya patch dropped I used to get a crashed gpu driver with this game almost every 30 minutes, now it STILL crashes It just takes longer.

Any news on the missing balance patch as of yet cuz WB somehow fails to deliver info like this to the broader audience?

I have an nVidia card, and I had to lower the resolution. The game still looks spectacular, but it's up to you. If that fixes things though, isn't it worth it? Is 1080p or not that much of a deal breaker?

Hey Enigma, great stuff. The only issue I currently have with the new 1.1 version is that it crashes if you go back to the character select screen or the main menu with the cam hack still enabled. This didn't happen with 1.0. Just so all bases are covered, the background on my main menu/character select screen is currently Special Forces.

If you deactivate the cam hack prior to backing out to the main menu/character select, it will not crash. But yeah, with the last 1.0 version, I could literally fly the camera around even while selecting characters. Just wanted to give you this feedback.

Thanks.

Honestly I don't even bother with 1080p anymore I just run my games in 720p with 4x aa and I'm good to go

All your games or just MKX?
All of them and I can tell you I'm more than happy...games are never about the rezolution and shinny graphics it's about the experience they provide, that's why I still play games from 1998 on my pc, games like the first resident evil trilogy and others

That's awesome dude, and I agree!

For me at least, I've been gaming for 30 years, and I did a lot of PC gaming in the 90's, so adjusting a resolution to make a game work great doesn't take me aback as that was standard back then.

Today, if I can play a game in 1080p, that's great and I will, but if I have to lower the resolution for a better experience that's a non-issue for me.

exactly........... luckily for us MKX has no issues what so ever to require the lowering of setting :DOGE

Ha!

But truthfully, if lowering the resolution a bit is all that's needed to make the game run pretty great, I'm not going to complain. Could be worse, and there's always the chance things can improve either through patching or more refined driver support.

I'm not holding my breath on that, mind you, but who knows.

Yeah, on PC rooms are the way to go. You can stick to your region to increase the chances of good connection, search via room matchmaking while you wait if no one there is available, rematch for setplay once you find someone good, and chat in the lobby afterwords.

Feature is seriously underused. I always end up creating an East Coast room when I log on and then playing 10-20 games with the first good person I find. Built a great stable of sparring partners this way and I avoid all the lag ranked players seem to give me.

The things to try would be the normal thing people who can not run things. I get fill FPS no problems... but here are some tweaks to try before lowering the resolution.

1) Turn off Motion Blur
2) Lower Particle Density
3) Shadow Quality

I know you have probably done these but they make a HUGE effect on performance. Especially the 1st 2.

4) Antialiasing
5) Anisotropic Filtering

You can turn these really low without huge image quality loss.

6) Run in fullscreen mode
7) Set vsync to "adaptive"

I know you probably have done all this.. but give it a go. Again, I have everything maxed out on my Nvidia 960 so it is hard to help. I simply have no issue.. but these are the main things that will reduce framerate and should be done BEFORE changing resolution. The way to test, is of course to set 1-5 all OFF and then try it. To see if there is any improvement and then slowly add them.

One other thing people have been reporting on Steam Forum fiddling with the "afinity". I can not attest to this but I guess it is worth a try. Run MKX. Alt+TAB. CTRL+SHFT+ESC to bring up task manager. Right click on the MK10.exe and select "set afinity". Now it should show all your CPUs ticked. Untick the bottom 1 CPU, if this dose not help.. try bottom 2. While you are there you can set "Piority" from the right click menu to high.

The reasoning behind this is a console port and PS4 and Xbone both use CPU load bearing to help the GPU. So by freeing a single CPU form MKX, you have a completely free one to help the GPU.

Again, no idea if this works.. but people have been saying it dose.. so maybe give it a try. Same goes for RVB and his strange frame drops on those few stages.

Hope that helps!

Here is my douche bag answer though...

throw out AMD and buy a 9 Series Nvidia and never have comparability issues on the PC :p

A 780 ti is the best patch for you
this is so true. You need to be running a current generation gfx card. I know the steam has really low specs on the requirements page.. but if you are not running a 9 series (I do not know what the ATI current gen is as those cards are nothing but problematic in my experience) then your already behind the 8ball. If your into PC gaming, pretty much everything form now on will require these cards.. so may as well upgrade now.

not the mans fault that hvs only optimised the game for Matrox,Voodoo and PowerVR gpu's ALSO am i the only one that remembers these
3DFX Voodoo cards were amazing back in the day. I went with nVidia after because they bought them, and I've been very pleased with all my nVidia cards.

I should actually try turning Motion Blur off and see if that does anything. I also have a nVidia GeForce 750 Ti, and again, the game is running great for me.

With Motion Blur off, perhaps I'll get slightly less tearing while using nVidia Adaptive Vertical Sync.

Might not be able to test until the weekend now though.
