Bay Area MKX Scene?

I have a ps4 so if you don't have anything that works you'll have to use a ps4 pad. You can bring your xbox, but I don't know if anyone would play well if they never used an xbone controller before (like myself). You could look into the mkx pdp pad, unfortunately they only work on ps4/3 or xbone/360. There is none that works on both. As far as the monitor goes I'll give you an answer closer to saturday when I know how many people are coming.

ps. I'll invite you to the pm with my address
Cool...i have the pdp pad for xbone (its garbage btw)...If someone has an extra ps4 pad that they would be willing to let me use thad be awesome..otherwise ill look for a converter or something

I have a pad to spare, but if more than one person needs it you'll have to take turns.

If you are talking about casuals at my place it is ongoing. I don't have a schedule though, I generally just play it by ear.

At my house in fremont. held one session and it was cool. only @daoutlaw46 and @ackmedterriost1 showed up. if you want their opinions feel free to ask them. I'm planning to hold one this saturday from 5-9pm, hope you can make it.

since this post has everything I'm gonna go ahead and tag people who might be interested
@mfkaoz @roosTakk @snort @Jack Burton @Folux182 if you guys want to bring the north side of the bay down here let me know.
@cR WoundCowboy I know you don't like the idea of a half hour drive just to beat on some scrubs, but we'd appreciate it if you came to help level up our scene.
Guess who got mkx? Will be ready now and what's more is that ps4 has keyboard support :). Are you still hosting casuals? I could also host as I have two screens for mk.

Yup, this saturday from 5-9pm. Does keyboard require a ps4 pad like ps3 sticks? cause if so we'll need someone to bring a couple.
@Folux182 are you still hosting casuals at your place? @smile I'd be down to show up but weekends are difficult for me because of work. @ackmedterriost1 Where in the bay are you located?
If you can make it out, even if you can only stay for an hour or two let me know and I'll add you to the pm.

Also since we now have at least 4 people coming I need someone to bring an extra ps4 + power cable. I have a spare hdmi, so I got that covered.

Shout outs to @PANDA making it out even if you couldn't stay for long. Let me know your psn man. More shout outs to…no one else cause that's all who showed up :(. I know life gets in the way so for those who said they would make it but didn't it's all cool. Just let me know if you can't make it next time. I'll post later when the next session will be.

We Need to Have a Talk...

I know there may be a few of you who don't know about our tournaments This message is for the people who know what's been going on who haven't been showing up.

I have a lot of things going on in my life. I'm at work 45 hours a week, and unfortunately I can't get a regular Sunday off. I'm going to get married soon. I have a father who is going senile and his estate may disappear. I have a lot on my plate and have been stressed for a while.

However, despite these obstacles, I still managed to find a venue that were willing to host our tournaments and for a small fee, give us the opportunity to grow our scene and give us an opportunity to have our own Wednesday Night Fights or Kombat Network or Next Level Battle Circuit.

Since we have a place to play our tournaments in a safe environment (this place even has a bouncer!) we should take advantage of this opportunity assuming everyone here is serious about offline competition.

Now, I'll have to apologize to the players who have asked to give them more of a heads up with when tournaments will happen. Because I have a busy schedule, I'll need help with that from the community to help for that. Advertising, or if you have a setup for streaming, we'll need help with those things.

If Mortal Kombat is to have any chance of having a tournament scene as big as Street Fighter, and lasting as long, it'll need and active community with good organization and passionate players. It needs to be done as a community.

I want to thanks Jon and Adam for stepping up and helping me run this tournaments and casual sessions at Brewcade. They've been a huge help with making sure a tournament and casual session happens when I can't get the day off from work to run things myself. There can be a few things done differently that can help run Inge more smoothly.

I understand that because of low turnout, that having sessions at your place ( Jon and Adam) may make sense at the time. However, that decision may not have been a good one because for one, we already advertised that a tournament would happen that day. It's not a good idea to change things last minute and not expect that someone isn't going to be inconvenienced by this. As a result of not bringing setups and running the tournament like we promised, the owner at Brewcade asked me why there wasn't a tournament run and now I'm on the hot seat for it. When we setup this arrangement with the owner of Brewcade, we entered into a business agreement to have the space for our events at that time. By not living up to our agreement, we're inconveniencing the owner by not letting him use his space more effectively to generate money for his establishment. The only reason he's letting us use Brewcade is because he's hoping to generate money from our events. By not living up to our commitment to run the event as we promised, a form of fraud was committed that I'm responsible for and this tarnishes my reputation with the owner as well as any future events the gaming community as a whole may want to hold there. This sort of thing is disrespectful and now I have to deal with it.

Two, we need to improve communication, specifically letting people now what's happening in advance of events. I know I can improve in this area as well. We can't change things the last minute and expect the event to go well. Even the owner at Brewcade said this very thing to me. If someone among the staff can't make it to an event and they know of this in advance, they should notify the others as soon as possible (preferably during the week). This way, we can make adjustments and notify the owner as soon as possible so we can keep the venue space without pissing off the owner. Also, we need to do a better job of advertising the tournaments. I know we all among the staff have jobs, so maybe this is where the community can step up and help us with the Facebook page and Testyourmight. Even if you can't show up to the events in person, an alternate person who can help can still contribute.

I don't want to end this whole thing. The possibilities are endless now that we have a venue in place in the heart of San Francisco. Let's not blow this opportunity. If you know about these tournaments and you haven't shown up, then please do. I know some of you have suggested we do some things to accommodate you, but we're not going to do such things until you start showing up. If I don't get a good response from this, I will pull out from Brewcade and not continue trying to create a scene here if no one is interested. Please let me know soon.

Showdown at the Foundry hosts Street Fighter and Smash4 tournaments at their huge warehouse on big screen projectors every Thursday. They have had at least 2-4 MKX setups regularly for everyone who enjoys the title to play. A lot of Street Fighter heads are enjoying the game and play sets between their tournament matches.

I'm sure some dedicated MKX players could make some noise by making some money match challenges and really bringing the attention towards those setups. Showdown has been very good about bringing in all kinds of communities (Smash, DOTA, League, SFIV, Brawl, Mario Kart, Halo, Counter Strike) I've seen all kinds of setups and arrangements to accommodate these players - why? Because they show up and they're passionate. I've literally seen 4v4 Halo 2 on OG Xbox tournaments at The Foundry. I'm not talking Master Chief Collection. I'm talking Halo 2 on the Xbox Godzilla Edition and there were at least 20 people involved.

MKX will only have a Bay Area presence if the Bay Area MKX players show up to their own shit. A big complaint we had in the IGAU community was how small we were in the bay area and how hard it was to find local training partners. If everyone wants to sit at home and play online you'll have no one to blame but yourselves.

From what I have seen - there have been more Street Fighter players playing locally than dedicated NRS players. Granted, I have been to nothing but Street Fighter events - but from the looks of this thread it doesn't seem like the TYM community has really picked up any steam.

TL;DR
There are more than 65 entrants for SFIV every week at The Foundry. Those guys play MKX when they get bored waiting for SFIV setups. Go out and meet some of them. Get some games. Have a beer. Win some. Lose some. Try Folsom Street Foundry if you guys are over 21 and love fighting games. The Capcom vs. NRS rivalry is online bullshit. All the NorCal SFIV players are cool as fuck and there won't be any egos thrown around at you - they're great players, great people, and they enjoy MKX if not a little less serious about it than you are. Or stay at home on TYM, watching streams, beating your dicks - wishing you had a "scene." Love me hate me idgaf. Tough love TYM. Tough love.

They host Saturday events as well from time to time. Be sure to follow ShowdownGG on Twitter for more information.

If you are under 21 but over 18 they will admit you, but they will stamp your hands so the bartenders know not to serve you. There are regular Street Fighter competitors that attend who are 18 and 19 that I see there all the time on Thursdays. I can't be entirely 100% sure on this, because I'm over 21 and I've never invested much thought into it, but a quick tweet to the guys at ShowdownGG should clear things up.

Also Showdown is running events in San Jose at some billiards club. Much more room. Still the same quality venue. Not sure what the age limit is. I've been really busy with school so I haven't had the time to go out to those.

Events are out there for you guys, you just need to show up.

I'm with Nightwing. You guys should be supporting your local scene instead of counting how many Twitch followers you have and complaining how bad the netcode is. Those who have local scenes are better at the game than those who don't.

These are the tournament results of a tournament run by a good friend, Nykko Marquez-Tagle (look for him on Facebook)- who has been sort of taking the reigns of Capsule Entertainment's tournament organization ever since CPSIV Joe went down to SoCal to train for the opening of Round 1 Entertainment at Eastridge Mall. These are the same guys who organized all the tournaments at Milpitas Golfland. Good dudes who host great tournaments. My homeboy Hardy can often be found out there cooking up bacon wrapped hotdogs, hamburgers, corndogs, wings, chicken and all kinds of great stuff. He does all this at whatever the venue cost is or $5 or whatever. I don't know. Sodas are provided too. It's always a good time. My point is, food accommodations aren't free, but it's not going to break the bank either.

Anyways, I'd like to point out that Ricky Ortiz is often in attendance of these weekly tournaments. They don't have the same numbers or the exposure as Churning the Butter - but they are held in a different part of the Bay Area and so Ricky shows up to support.

Don't wait for big Hollywood names to call you to an event. That shit doesn't happen. Just show up and make the best of it. You are the scene.

Also, if the names present for the MKX tournament aren't names that you recognize as players in the Bay Area MKX scene - might be a good idea to reach out to them.

And to clear things up. I'm not popping off or anything on you guys. I'm just forwarding information. I recall a lot of frustration in the IGAU days of having so few training partners in the Bay Area. If I were better connected from IGAU's launch I'm sure I could have worked to retain and grow the scene. This is a prime opportunity for you guys if you care enough to pick it up.

I'm too busy either way, just doing what I can to help foster some growth in the FGC.

This is a great opportunity for the scene to get around and support on Tuesday nights. I won the last two weeks and there have been enough guys every week to run a tournament. I am planning on returning this upcoming Tuesday. My roommate and I will try to restart casuals in San Francisco. I have been traveling a lot around the bay as well as Sacramento attending locals and have found people who would be open to having casuals in San Francisco. I will start compiling a list of players and available days when we could host these

Hey man welcome. Where are you located just to get a better idea on how to help you
