Bay Area MKX Scene?

EIN

Hey guys,

Been playing MKX for awhile now (since launch). Really looking to improve my game. Played a lot of injustice and went to a couple of MK9 tournaments (held by EGP) when I lived in socal. Now I'm trying to find a local scene out here too.

I'm located in Foster city and was going to try to make it to Brewcade last week but found out it was cancelled. Is that still going on? Any people confirmed for this week? BTW, i have a couple of friends are who trying to come out too.

Thanks,
N

I have been a few times now. The scene is still building. Overall there have been probably 15 or so people who have shown up on various weeks. Hope to see everyone come together at the same time. Looking forward to meeting more players in the area.

Unfortunately I will be out of the country for the next few Sunday but plan to come back after the trip!

The hangout session on Sunday was cancelled, but we're still on for the tournament next week. Glad you're interested! How many of your friends might come?

Right now, only one more confirmed. It's also Bay 2 Breakers this Sunday so might be a little harder for me to round up some people. I'll be going to that as well but planning to hit up the Brewcade after. Can't wait to see everyone there!

We Need to Have a Talk...

I know there may be a few of you who don't know about our tournaments This message is for the people who know what's been going on who haven't been showing up.

I have a lot of things going on in my life. I'm at work 45 hours a week, and unfortunately I can't get a regular Sunday off. I'm going to get married soon. I have a father who is going senile and his estate may disappear. I have a lot on my plate and have been stressed for a while.

However, despite these obstacles, I still managed to find a venue that were willing to host our tournaments and for a small fee, give us the opportunity to grow our scene and give us an opportunity to have our own Wednesday Night Fights or Kombat Network or Next Level Battle Circuit.

Since we have a place to play our tournaments in a safe environment (this place even has a bouncer!) we should take advantage of this opportunity assuming everyone here is serious about offline competition.

Now, I'll have to apologize to the players who have asked to give them more of a heads up with when tournaments will happen. Because I have a busy schedule, I'll need help with that from the community to help for that. Advertising, or if you have a setup for streaming, we'll need help with those things.

If Mortal Kombat is to have any chance of having a tournament scene as big as Street Fighter, and lasting as long, it'll need and active community with good organization and passionate players. It needs to be done as a community.

I want to thanks Jon and Adam for stepping up and helping me run this tournaments and casual sessions at Brewcade. They've been a huge help with making sure a tournament and casual session happens when I can't get the day off from work to run things myself. There can be a few things done differently that can help run Inge more smoothly.

I understand that because of low turnout, that having sessions at your place ( Jon and Adam) may make sense at the time. However, that decision may not have been a good one because for one, we already advertised that a tournament would happen that day. It's not a good idea to change things last minute and not expect that someone isn't going to be inconvenienced by this. As a result of not bringing setups and running the tournament like we promised, the owner at Brewcade asked me why there wasn't a tournament run and now I'm on the hot seat for it. When we setup this arrangement with the owner of Brewcade, we entered into a business agreement to have the space for our events at that time. By not living up to our agreement, we're inconveniencing the owner by not letting him use his space more effectively to generate money for his establishment. The only reason he's letting us use Brewcade is because he's hoping to generate money from our events. By not living up to our commitment to run the event as we promised, a form of fraud was committed that I'm responsible for and this tarnishes my reputation with the owner as well as any future events the gaming community as a whole may want to hold there. This sort of thing is disrespectful and now I have to deal with it.

Two, we need to improve communication, specifically letting people now what's happening in advance of events. I know I can improve in this area as well. We can't change things the last minute and expect the event to go well. Even the owner at Brewcade said this very thing to me. If someone among the staff can't make it to an event and they know of this in advance, they should notify the others as soon as possible (preferably during the week). This way, we can make adjustments and notify the owner as soon as possible so we can keep the venue space without pissing off the owner. Also, we need to do a better job of advertising the tournaments. I know we all among the staff have jobs, so maybe this is where the community can step up and help us with the Facebook page and Testyourmight. Even if you can't show up to the events in person, an alternate person who can help can still contribute.

I don't want to end this whole thing. The possibilities are endless now that we have a venue in place in the heart of San Francisco. Let's not blow this opportunity. If you know about these tournaments and you haven't shown up, then please do. I know some of you have suggested we do some things to accommodate you, but we're not going to do such things until you start showing up. If I don't get a good response from this, I will pull out from Brewcade and not continue trying to create a scene here if no one is interested. Please let me know soon.

I apologize for not being able to make it out. However, my reasons for not attending are personal/private. I will say that me not showing up isn't a matter of not wanting to show up, but being unable to get there.

Also I haven't been holding casuals like I said i would. Even if I suck I should still give people another place to meet like-minded individuals. So I will hold casuals at my house this saturday from 5-9 pm unless nobody can make it, in which case I'll change the date. Tag me or reply to this post and I'll invite you to the pm that has my address.
@ackmedterriost1 @daoutlaw46 @mfkaoz @snort @roosTakk you guys live closest to me so I'm tagging your asses

It's so weird. I expected more from the Bay Area. In the Sacramento area, there is a constant 15-20 players for MKX at any local event. I don't know what it is, but the Bay Area needs to step it up.

Whoever the TOs are should be posting on every forum, FB group, and have the venue help promote it. I don't see any event listings on TYM or on the FB groups about the tournaments. I checked the Brewcade FB page, and there is nothing on it either. If you want people to show up, then you need to put the events out there. It needs to get out to the public, and not just the NRS scene.

I think it would help to get the word out...This thread is the only reference I have and I have a bad memory so I usually only check it when im tagged...anyways I play on xbone which is why I didnt make it on Sunday ( no PS4 pad or converter).

Im not great at marketing but it would be awesome if someone who is could help spread this

It will be my first Sunday off in I don't know how long, so I hope its decided to run the tournament on Sunday. I definitely agree we have the opportunity to create something special here, but we all have to do our part. Hope to see you Sunday so we can talk more about what we can do.

I'm in Stockton. Looking for any local tournaments or casuals tbh anything offline in this area is hard to find.

No one contacted me so I won't hold a session today, it was last minute so I understand. I'll hold it next week if anyone is interested (unless something comes up of course)

After doing some contemplating with my co-organizers and members of the community about our sessions at Brewcade, I think I'm gonna call the tournaments off at Brewcade, at least for now. Challenges both personally (my employer withdrawing giving me Sunday off to run the tournament myself, my father having to soon be put in a home for Alzheimer's and serious family drama), and community wise (co-organizers that could help more with the tournament in both advertising and running it properly, the community following through with there desires having a tournament in San Francisco balancing out tournaments with other events that can affect our numbers) will need to be overcome before these tournaments to be successful.

Thank you so much for those who helped with the tournament and those who showed up to compete, or just showed up to see what was going on. We'll regroup and see what the future holds.

Where's the session held?
At my house in fremont. held one session and it was cool. only @daoutlaw46 and @ackmedterriost1 showed up. if you want their opinions feel free to ask them. I'm planning to hold one this saturday from 5-9pm, hope you can make it.

since this post has everything I'm gonna go ahead and tag people who might be interested
@mfkaoz @roosTakk @snort @Jack Burton @Folux182 if you guys want to bring the north side of the bay down here let me know.
@cR WoundCowboy I know you don't like the idea of a half hour drive just to beat on some scrubs, but we'd appreciate it if you came to help level up our scene.

I'll invite you to the pm with my address. If we get more people we will need another console as i only have one (ps4). I have 2 tv's for gaming though + 2 ps4 controllers for anyone that uses ps3 peripherals (like myself).

I have a ps4 so if you don't have anything that works you'll have to use a ps4 pad. You can bring your xbox, but I don't know if anyone would play well if they never used an xbone controller before (like myself). You could look into the mkx pdp pad, unfortunately they only work on ps4/3 or xbone/360. There is none that works on both. As far as the monitor goes I'll give you an answer closer to saturday when I know how many people are coming.

ps. I'll invite you to the pm with my address
