Shortcut Input Issue - Why is it Like This?

So, I use Shortcut Inputs due to it registering back, down back ( :l:qtl) for back, down( :l:d).

The thing thats really annoying is that it doesn't do it while you combo.

So I could do Johnny's Nut Punch ( :l:d 3) with the input of :l:qtl 3, raw.

But if I were to do the following combo, it won't come out

F24, d1, f3 b,db3 ( :l:qtl).

I would really like it if Shortcut Inputs would work in combos as well. I spent 4 years doing nut punch and never dropped it as much as I do in this game.

Happy face? Also, it's annoying playing Cassie Cage with Input Shortcuts on. I always get interactables in her B2 string.

I love how I see countless times where 1+2 triggers an interactable inadvertently and NRS refuses to admit this is an issue because you can just turn off input shortcuts in the controller settings to disable 1+2 doing an interactable...not caring that it also removes directional input shortcuts that you need to do other commands. It is really unfortunate that this effects gameplay and loses people tournament matches, but NRS does not see it as an issue...

And yes @Mikemetroid, the input shortcuts in strings is screwed up because that is pretty much the reason I don't play Cage more seriously. I drop f3 into nut punch WAYYYYYYY more than I should especially coming from MK9 where I co-mained Cage, and Injustice maining Frost and had ZERO issues with the Back-Down input. When the move doesn't come out it is super infuriating so I feel your pain.

I fucking feel your pain. That damn nut punch input. It's cost me games for sure. @Mikemetroid what pad/stick are you using? I feel like my issue in this game is the DS4 dpad. It was so much easier on the DS3 to slide back to down. You have to be extremely deliberate in the motion.

Anyone else using another pad that has no issues?

I don't think it is because I have issues with Johnny's nut punch from time to time but NEVER have one with Cassie's (same inputs) so there is something going on I feel like.

@Mikemetroid I actually play with inputs shortcuts off, and when I do nutpunch with Cassie I almost never get it to come out, but if I play with input shorts on I always get interactable out of B212D1+2. There's no happy medium. Luckily for me I don't actually use Hollywood ever, but I can imagine it's extremely annoying for everyone else.

Interesting. I should go mess with Cassie. Let me ask you something. When you tested out shadow cancels, did you get 1,1,4~shadow cancel on the first couple of tries? do you drop 1,1,3~nut punch a lot? I experienced this unless I slow down and kind time it. It doesnt seem to buffer the special right. I havent experienced this with any other character I've played with.

Fucking thank you!

I knew I couldn't be the only one having this problem... When I can do ex freeze back to back to back with no problems whatsoever by itself, but then try to connect it to F42 and get it like 2 out of 10 times... it's so frustrating.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but needing the Shorcut Input feature on leads to bad habits. Getting used to just doing half motion commands takes a toll in all other fighting games where QCF/QCB commands are common place.

In short, you should practice doing the command's full motion instead of relying on a faulty feature that shouldn't exist to begin with.

I don't play other fighting games like I do MK.

I don't drop most of the strings outside of f3 into nut presumably because of the forward to back part of the input maybe?

@colt Is it supposed to be like this? or is it supposed to work for combos as well? Could it be modified to work with combos?

I still don't know how much of my execution problem with this game is the game and how much is the PDP pad. Never before has it been this bad though, that's for sure.
