What are your serious opinions about Mortal Kombat X?

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
I seem to be reading a lot of "well MKX is just all 50/50s, MK9 was footsies".

....what is this even supposed to mean? When was there ever an arbitrary definition of "footsies" that fighting game designers are supposed to follow? I mean, I certainly wasn't an Injustice enthusiast (and you can bet your balls I will give every admin here a resounding bitchslap if they try to entertain the "Injustice can be our Marvel guise!" agenda again if Injustice 2 is a thing), but even the "Injustice has no footsies" propaganda was silly to me. I was no less impressed by DJT's work with GL than I was with his Cyrax when I watched Injustice majors.

Footsies are all about spacing awareness in given scenarios and going with what you think is the best tool to entertain accordingly. It's up to you, as a player, as a human, to figure out what they are. Fighting games won't do that for you by themselves.

Sorry you can't just get away with blagging advancing neutral on block mids and a bunch of chip damage as footsies anymore I guess.

Without breaking the gameplay down, summerised: I'm enjoying MKX and I like the way it looks, sounds and "feels".
Character models are the best NRS has done, but still have some weird anatomy going on at times.
I definitely prefer MK9, but mostly due that game's roster, story and wealth of stages.

As I have said before, replace the name of the game with "Injustice: Gods Among Us 2" and switch the Mortal Kombat characters with DC characters and half of the community would insist the game is garbage for the same reasons many consider Injustice garbage. The reality is that Mortal Kombat X plays closer to Injustice, which, again, many in the community consider garbage, than to Mortal Kombat 9, which many in the community consider a highly unbalanced but honest fighting game that rewards the superior player. In other words, the vast majority of posts and opinions in this thread are purely biased diarrhea feces.

If you disliked the 50/50 mix ups in Injustice, why do you like them in Mortal Kombat all of a sudden? I know the answer to this question so there is no need to answer.

Pretty much this all of this.... everywhere.

Mortal
I am having a blast sticking with one character (Kitana) and watching my fundamentals continue to improve.

I was freaking out last night in the ESL production room watching @Kitana Prime play. To see a character that I love played at such a high level is a thing of beauty to me.

I really REALLY enjoyed the story mode. The creative arc NRS decided to go with was a risk. 20 years in the future. New characters in their 20's. The risk paid off. I really like the new class :)

The QTE's are exactly what they should be -> more engaging cinematics.

(Spoilers)
I have no idea where the story will take us, and I am very happy about that. Liu Kang and Kitana's resentment of Raiden is GREAT! Why? It proves this story isn't going to be wrapped up in a nice little bow for a while.

Kitana no longer feeling a victim because she is now the dark empress of the NetherRealm.

Think about it. Most of your 10,000 year life has been a lie. First you encounter a human, Liu Kang, who doesn't kill you in retaliation for trying to kill him. You're entire way of life in the realm of Kombat in Outworld was shattered by a dashing Shao Lin from an alien world.

Then the man you thought was your father killed your real father, placed your resurrected mother as his queen, and his trusted adviser made a DNA/Tarkatan clone to replace you. Your home realm is gone, what's left of it's people are scattered through Outworld or their souls are fused in the construct, Ermac.

After learning the truth, you decide to help EarthRealm along with her defenders. But guess who comes walking in, your dead mother, Sindel, and she kills your best friend Jade. Straight up rips an organ out of her torso and keeps walking. You try and stop her. She kills your allies, your friends, and you.

Wake up as a Revenant. Liu Kang is by your side. You fight for the NetherRealm. It's who you are now. Daughter to a murdered family. Princess of a fallen realm. Pain and vengeance is all that fuels you.

And now a stern warning from Raiden.

The only thing going right for Kitana; She's is next to Liu Kang, and she's no longer a victim.

What happens next? Will Kitana, a daughter of oppression, become the oppressor? Is there any hope, any redemption for her, Liu Kang, and the other Revenants?

I find a story compelling when the justifications of the 'bad guys' are very agreeable. Not necessarily 'right', but you empathize with the motivation of their choices.

The individualized character intros add SO MUCH to the game.

Off topic. WTF is a "roll" in a 2dish fighting game? Is that just jumping or something? lol
Tech roll. You should learn how to use it since off of any soft knockdown you can do it and make people whiff(although they can still run up and pressure again)
just gonna knock you both out int he same post

punishing and defending are NOT the same thing.

the games META is built on "how do i get my 50/50"

you can't defend against an unseeable 50/50 without guessing. There is no if and or buts about it.

the other stuff is AFTER you've truly defended the guess. And it doesn't CHANGE how someone will play.

You're pulling examples of stuff i wasn't even bringing up.[/QUOTE

Lol, that wasn't a knockout, that was a mayweather hug at best.

Backdashing is a defensive maneuver because you are avoiding the 50/50.

The games meta is not fleshed out and you nor I know how it will end up. The meta only revolves around 50/50s right now because people aren't avoiding and/or punishing them.

The other stuff is BEFORE you make the guess. If you stop your opponent from putting you in the 50/50 situation, then you won't have to guess. It should change how they play if you backdash and armor through all their 50/50s , unless they are just really dumb lol. Like someone else brought up, Marvel is all about spacing and footsies, and has more 50/50s and 33/33/33s than this community could ever DREAM of. The key is avoiding the 50/50, which will take time for most people to master.

Both Killer Instinct and SF4 have grabs univerally beat armored moves. I'm sure there are older games that have this mechanic as well.
I stand corrected. I honestly had no idea. Throws are too strong in this game already to allow them to break armor though.

A lot of 50/50s require some kind of set up. Like Quan Chi's, for example.

Also, you were mentioning talk about safe strings and what have you, but some of those, like Sonya's can be backdashed. Can be armored. Your talking point was that all people do is poke, run, go for a mix up.

My counterargument is that sone of those mix ups are either unsafe, or you have options against them.

Take Erron Black, for example. Say he pokes, runs, and does his OH/LOW into a command grab. Once you block the string, you can duck the grab and punish.

Or you could stand outside their poke range and whiff punish if they try.

The game will evolve and you will see more of this as time goes on.

That's about right.

So what is a "tech roll" in a 2d-ish fighting game? Is that just a broad term for your options on the ground? I'm use to tech roll actually meaning to roll while on the ground in a certain direction to avoid being attacked on the ground.

...And that is exactly what it does lol. You just tech roll backwards instead of side to side.

Oh, yeah. Of course.

b+2 xx EX rune is extremely difficult to connect. b+2 only reaches slightly less than half the screen and EX rune is only +15 on block, which more or less leads to another 50/50 mix up of its own.
Yeah. I guess that was a bad example. Oops.

Its Game Over, Man
One thing that I'd like to see in the next game (or patched somehow into this one) is the ability to be able to have a Brutality Practice mode.

RULES OF NATURE!
I liked a lot of things in this game, The characters design, the moves, soundtrack, stages, the training mode is much better and complete, we got some nice towers to play but i really miss the MK9's Challenge Tower... The krypt is really awesome to explore tho! I think this faction thing is pretty useless to be honest, thought that the variations will help to balance the characters but everyone always pick the same... Still looks a little bit unbalanced but i think they will correct it in the future. Im not a big fan of this 50/50 style of match but this is not the problem, some characters have slow as fuck overheads like Mileena and Kitana (Kitana ones doesn't even lead to a combo lol) others are so fast that you can't even saw coming like Erron, Sonya, Cage, Quan Chi... So you have to guess it. Blocking mix ups and 50/50's online is almost impossible! Did i forgot to mention that this online netcode sucks? Oh and forgot to mention that the story mode is a shame, poorly made and soooo short if compared to MK9 and Injustice? The comic's history is faaaaar superior and should be a best story mode.
