Strategies to take out projectile spammers

I love this game, but 75% of my losses online are due to this lol
What do you guys find is the best way to counter a projectile spammer?

Go down 4 times then right 3 times on the select screen and pick Smoke(assuming you're first player). Block and shake.

BTW, Welcome to TYM! Glad to see an Okie here!

i think he is referring to matches where his character is the inferior zoner and he cannot get in because the guy always randomly jump kicks him out as he dashes in or just lands a projectile. so the guy keeps spamming until he senses the OP is within jump range and baits a jump or jump ins himself which catches the OP offguard.

this is hard to deal with online. all tips are welcome.

Ya Noob can be be the bane of my existence with that shadow tackle lol
and I didn't mean to sound dumb, I just thought I would get some extra advice

What I’ve found that works pretty well is to profile. If they pick Reptile, Kano, Freddy, Noob or Smoke I pretty much expect them to be a spammer. I usually give them round one to prove themselves not to be and if they are I just spam them back faster.

The funny thing is after you beat them at their spamming strategy they label you as the spammer and send hate mails but whatever…lol.

Projectile "spamming" has been a legitimate tactic since 1991.

It's not sad, it's not cheap, but you do need to learn how to deal with it depending on your character, who do you use OP?

Mostly due to 2 projectiles cancelling each other out. MK does not do this, so it can be a problem.

It's a different form of zoning. Some character can outzone others, but being able to block before getting hit with their opponents fireball, or using air and low fireballs to avoid other fireballs, or just win trades by their fireball doing more damage.

So it all boils down to who you are using and who your opponent is using to see how your zoning or counter-zoning plays out.

I have problems (online of course) using Kitana against Kano. Knife tosses from full screen, I dash block to get in, but when I'm in range he upballs as soon as I unblock. Or I think a low if the Kano is smart. I'm not sure what to do to put the hurt on him once I'm there.

Whatever difficulties you have with projectile spammers depend on which character you are playing as and the patterns your opponent may be slipping into.

Smoke can use his Shake to counter projectiles; Nightwolf can Reflect them (or heal himself if he enhances the Reflect); some characters can teleport in on him and pulverize him; some can just trade projectiles while risking damage to themselves; some can use armored moves (like Raiden's Enhanced Superman as an example); others can outzone the spammer.

Even with the dash nerf, dash-blocking actually isn't all that hard once you get used to it. But online, it's not as effective due to how the inputs get corrupted often. Offline, it's no problem. You can also duck the projectiles without blocking and they will just go right above your head.

Be careful, though; if they catch on to your tendencies they may start throwing out random tactics just to throw you off. A smarter player is even worse to contend against. Often they will expect a jump-in or teleport, so be ready to play your own mind games.

As EMPEROR_iNFUSiON once said to one of his fellow clanmates: "If someone is spamming, they're actually setting themselves up for punishment." Once you recognize the opportunity and start punishing them over and over for their mindless projectiles, they'll start to second-guess themselves and you will have control.

By the way, I see you are from Oklahoma as well. Good to meet ya here!
