Input Lag Online?

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking this forum heavily over the past few weeks, and finally decided to create an account.

Anyway, I wanted to see if others have experienced input lag with playing this game online. I've never had input lag with Street Fighter games online, and all of my other online game experiences have been smooth.

I was hesitant to buy this game because of how poor the online experience was for MK 9, but I was told by some friends that it played smoothly online, so I took the plunge. Unfortunately, after a few matches I am now very concerned that I made a mistake as the input lag was very noticeable. Very, very simple combos that I nail consistently offline were not landing in online play.

Is this an issue for others or am I alone? Thanks for the feedback.

I guess you didnt see the Netcode complaints spanning the last 2 weeks.
Yes, it is horrible.
Devs said its better than MK9 and improved but consensus says its the same old.

It's bad. I can't do anything online with some characters. Some are still easy to use. This game is great as an offline experience. Online is useless.

Been having a lot better results online going into rooms as opposed to just queuing up for random ranked matches. Both in the quality of connection and the quality of player.

My experience with online is wavering. I can have a good experience one match and then the next have a 2 second input delay. I'm going to go out on a limb and say there are a ton of people playing wirelessly and multi task while they play. The guy above me is right. You should choose your opponent instead of a complete random match.

Yeah, it would be nice if at least Ping for players actually showed up in rooms instead of just being gray bars for everybody, but rooms are more reliable, and then you can at least avoid people with shit connections after you play them. I also assume that there are a lot of idiots that just either play on wireless or just have crap internet or something, I assume this based on the heavy amount of Microphone users where you can just hear their TV super loudly or their girlfriend yelling at them the whole match with a baby cryin' in the background, who then pick scorpion and only know how to teleport.

Nailed it. There's no worse combination than fighting games and wireless connections. Best bet is to play wired with people in your timezone.

I blame wireless. Not many know how to crimp their own cat6/rj45 to run a proper line to their systems.
I think only my experience playing MK3 on snes modem Xband is what lets me cope with the lag.
I do a pop up and a combo and see how long of a delay it is.
I was back to 10+ hits with Ermac in a KOTH and managed to hit 11 wins, until a gray ping bar Bo Kung Jin came spamming the Jesus out of me.

Is there a way to host my own room? I honestly don't like sitting in rooms with 6 other people and waiting 20 minutes between matches. I don't mind a few people in a room, but a large one is not a suitable replacement to just doing matchmaking like I could in SF4.

I'm actually trying to work things out with WB Tech support, and if they can't resolve the issue I'll just be pursuing a refund, because I bought this game to play it online and that is simply not possible with any degree of quality right now.

Go to the rooms and challenge one person at a time, not a KoTH room. They are stable for me. I RARELY have lag, and when I do I just avoid the person with the crappy connection.

In rooms do you see different color connections or is everything just grey? I see nothing but grey connections, so I can't even tell who to challenge. So far I haven't noticed any improvement in this over just doing 1v1 matchmaking.

no they usually dont show up until after I've played a few matches or been in the room a while, even then... MK has like no good ping indicator, it like doesn't even work or something. It's still kinda just luck of the draw, but I have overall better experience with room people, just have to challenge people with good records, the lowbies are gonna be all the people on wireless and stupid shit.

Im guessing your friends dont play many fighters? I have friends that say the online is good but they cant even notice lag anyway i dont think lol

The weird thing is that some of them are fighting game players and their nod is why I took the plunge with this game. I have no idea what they are seeing because I have yet to play a match where lag was not noticeable.

I never have problems other than. Sometimes a sudden short but powerful lag spike. Or character selection screen is un navigatable

The fuck? You had a better experience with sf? I know the Mk servers are horrible but I have never had a good lagless match in sf, it has always been laggy as fuck and saying "waiting on other opponent" and it isn't my internet since in MKX when I play with my friends (not public online it is horrible there but for some reason private matches work beautifully for me) it is pretty much lagless

Yes infinitely better. 360 or PC.
Only time was bad was when I was on TimeWarner and it was a known that stability would tank between 6pm-10pm.
