So TYM, my car died on me today while going to work. It was a 2000 Ford Escort that I have had since I was 16. It lasted me until 23, and I put over 160k miles on it myself.

With that said, I ran the poor guy into the ground and am in need of a new transportation divice. I'm looking for a car (not a truck, suv, or pedo van) that is around 10k, new or used. I do a shit ton of driving, mainly on highway. I also plan on moving south in the next 5 years so 4-wheel drive isn't a priority. Any recommendations on models or makes?

Thanks dudes! I know you already have good taste in fighting games; so you all probably have good taste in cars too.

if you're just looking for something to get you from point A to point B and not make a big fuss about it then get a used civic and call it a day. :p

You could also consider a new Nissan Versa.

Try to find a 2003-3005 Honda Accord. You can get them for less than $6,000 and they are reliable as hell. I've had one for a few years now and it's rock solid.

You can probably find a Honda Fit used, with decent mileage, for around $10k I would presume - maybe $12k. Retails for $16k new I believe. It's not a huge car, but it has pretty decent mileage and they handle quite well. 27mpg city; 34mpg highway. I've got one and I can vouch for them being pretty reliable, had it for nearly 5 years now and I haven't had any issues what so ever. You can cram a decent amount of stuff in it, though.

However, what part of the South are you intending on moving to? I'm in the South and it snows here. While the snow isn't a problem, the black ice certainly is, I would've preferred having a 4-wheel drive vehicle due to that. As long as you're not in high elevation like I am, it shouldn't be a concern, though.

edit: I have heard that people steal the wheels on these though, so it's something to consider. I haven't had it happen to me, though.

This. Hondas are super reliable if you do all the scheduled maintence, and you'll probably want a larger car if you'll be in it alot, so the Accord is perfect. My Acura is nothing more than a slightly fancier Honda, and its been running great about nine years now. I just had to do my first out of pocket repair on it.

Thanks everyone! A lot of people point me in the way of Honda. I'll be car shopping all day tomorrow and Friday. Making a key note to check for all the Honda suggestions.

Tim, I need a car that has at least one horse power. That probably has .5

In terms of the south, I'm looking at Florida. Orlando area.

Get a car for dirt cheap and put an overpriced sound system in it. Like all the cool kids do.
This is exactly what I'd do. Fuck being cool, do it cuz you like killing your ears with awesome music.

Of course that's probably one of the reasons I don't plan on getting a car anytime soon.

2010 Ford Mustang - 10,9k: http://bit.ly/rk2OFX

btw. Ford Mustang is my fav ride.
Really, a US car? I never looked at Ford, but Chevy's warranty was basically "nothing's really covered but the drivetrain, and that only for 30,000 miles." Maybe its changed though, that was in 2002, but once I saw the warranty I walked away.

@Swift, when you finally make your purchase don't forget to post pics in the TYM car thread :)

I expect to have the new car sometime next week. I'm taking my time to make sure it's the right. I'll have pics though for sure. Also for anyone in Philly this new car can give you a ride to tournaments if interested.
