Let's talk: MKX on PC

HOW?!
I have i7 4700 @2.4 GHz
Geforce GTX 770
8 GB RAM

And I have to run the game at fucking 1366x768 and all settings set to off to get a solid 60 fps!

At 1920 x 1080 only training room runs at 60 fps and all other stages drop to like 45 fps.

This games needs an optimization patch like NOW!!!
That sucks. My cpu usage goes up to 25% when I'm in mkx. Why did they make this game such a pain to alt+tab? Most of the time my screen goes black and I have to restart it.

The 770 I have is the MSI NVIDIA Geforce GTX 770 Gaming OC 4GB GDDR5.

I got it running at 720p. Guess I'll go lower but DAMN this is not even close to respectable porting if I got to do all this.
From what I'm seeing people post here and elsewhere, I'm confident that ATi/AMD video cards have much more significant frame rate issues with the game.

What's your processor, are you running the latest version of DirectX, and do you have the latest video drivers for your ATi card?

That's so strange, your system is roughly similar to mine. A few questions:

- What OS are you running?
- Do you have the latest drivers for your GeForce, and have you run GeForce Experience to Optimize the settings? I had to manually adjust the resolution in-game, but the GeForce Optimal settings worked for me and the game is silky smooth now.
- Did you start the game before all the packs were installed?

There are screen tears when using Ermac and also if you use an arcade stick you can not fly with Ermac He hovers and moves his body, but does not fly around.

Glad to hear it. Props to reptar too, who also suggested the idea.

I'm no PC expert, Jeebus, FAR from it, but I strongly suggest to everyone having performance issues that you consider trying the following technique. It worked for me and clearly for Juxtapose:

Set the in-game video options to a lower res, like 720p or similar and set Fullscreen mode.
Apply this setting (the picture may appear half of the screen, or surrounded by black bars).
Whilst this setting is applied, look for an option on your actual TV or Monitor itself to "Auto Adjust" or "Auto Scan" or something similar, and activate it.

This should hopefully realign the image correctly, fullscreen, and should drastically improve your FPS performance (Though you may still have to tinker with shadows/particles and such.)

It's not 1080p, which we'd all love, but its more than acceptable, and should hopefully work for you until any kind of fix shows up..if ever.
Give it a try, but its no guarantee of anything, as I said, I'm no expert :)

OOI, I'm running an i5 with a GTX660 and 8GB, so hardly a supah computah.
To clarify for my monitor, I have a Samsung SyncMaster P2270, and the option is under Menu>Size&Position>Image Size in my montior. I had it set to Auto, and setting it to Wide fixed things right up.

I also think people obsess over 1080p far too much. Dropping the resolution down to 1600x900 for me let's me play the game with everything else at max. While it looks slightly less sharp in this resolution than at 1920x1080, it still looks absolutely fantastic and I'm not complaining at all, and I forget as I'm actually playing.

astronout

see you at the top.
no problem running this game with an i5 4690 & R9 280x, 8 gigs of ram
no overclock, full 1080p. the only thing that slows down are the loading screens.

Blind justice....
Well it's been few day now, so i feel i can say some things about the PC version.

- Optimization wise it works flawlessly for me but my spec are an overkill for this game (i7-4790@ 4,8 GHz, 2x GTX 980), no problem with Sky Temple either

- Game often crashes when leaving online mode

- Fraction server well... it almost never work

- There is some minor bugs in online mode like no actual ping bars on chat / opponent status page

- Online for me atleast for now is a complete disaster, i've a great connection and even with friends to which i have like 20 - 50 ms delay its still for most part unplayable, the input delay feels like 3 times that, even worse then Injustice. This is really odd.

Overall i think this game needs atleast 2-3 big patches on PC to be completely playable.

Btw it looks so much better (im running it at 4K@60 fps) then on PS4/X1.

Yes I did play the game a lot before all the packs were installed.

The GeForce optimal settings tell me I should run the game at 1600x900 but there's no damn 1600x900 option in-game! This one is driving me mad. Why the hell can't I pick 1600x900 it's just stupid.
What resolution do you run the game at? I can run it on 1440x900 and it runs well but it looks ugly and a little stretched, not to mention the black bars on top and bottom :(

I have all drivers up to date.

Well I set the game to 1440x900 and selected off the window boxing, now the game doesn't have black bars during the match. I am not exactly sure how that's possible, and I don't think it's like 1600x900, but I have solid 60 fps, so I'll be playing on that.

It's not particularly pretty, but fuck it I just want to play the game. Let's hope they release some damned optimization patch or maybe Geforce will release a driver update that might help the performance a little.

Okay, you're running the exact same OS as me, so our systems really are extremely similar. A few things:

- 1600x900 is absolutely in the game, at least it is for me. I had to manually set it though, as GeForce Experience couldn't force that setting on the game for some reason (it could all the others). Off of memory, you find it under Options>PC Video Options. The resolution should be the first thing, and you simply move left until you select it. For me, my best option is 1920x1080, which is what the game was originally on for me as it's my PC's native resolution. I simply went left until I found 1600x900 (I originally missed it as well, but it's there).

- When I changed my resolution, I also had black bars, pillar boxing, and the image was a little squished. I was able to fix this by adjusting my monitor's settings. For me, on my physical monitor, I went to: Menu>Size&Position>Image Size. The option was on Auto, I set it to Widescreen.

- Lastly, I'm strongly convinced the streaming install, aside from being annoying, "breaks" parts of the game if played before all packs are installed. If at the end of everything you still can't optimize the game right, uninstalling and performing a clean install might assist, as annoying as that'll be. Once uninstalled, to do a clean install do the following:

  • Reboot your system after the uninstall
  • Start Steam and switch to "Small Mode."
  • Right Click on Mortal Kombat X in your Steam Library and select the "View Downloadable Content" Option
  • You should see Goro and all 29 packs there. Check mark "Install" for each one, and then Click "Close."
  • Back at your Steam Library, right click on Mortal Kombat X and Install.
  • Once the 3 GB pre-install file is done, go to "Games" at the top of Steam, and then "View Games Library." You'll see a progress bar at the bottom of this window. It goes file by file and shows you stuff is being downloaded. Walk away and let it do it's thing. For me, this took 1H 10M.
  • Once complete, go back to "Small Mode" and "View Downloadable Content." Make sure it shows all packs as being installed.
  • If so, exit Steam and reboot your system.
  • Fire up GeForce Experience and Optimize Mortal Kombat X.
  • Exit and reboot again.
  • Start Steam, and start the game. Change your resolution to 1600x900 and adjust your monitor and now, see if the game runs far better.
For me, doing it this way, the only problems I've had outside of the frame rate issues, which seem to have been solved by dropping the game to the recommended resolution as per GeForce Experience, is the remapped buttons don't show on the moves list. So basically Kitana's Fan Throw is D,F,X when for me it should be D,F,A. When standing by an interactible RB flashes under my Stamina Metre as opposed to LB which I remapped to. Annoying bugs like this, but nothing game breaking.

The game has _never_ crashed on me once. You can see how it runs on my system with a test video I posted here, recorded from an in-game replay with Shadowplay.

Our systems are crazy similar, the game should play this well for you.

I toyed with the Window Boxing setting, and it never did anything I could see, on or off. So I left it on for now.

GeForce Experience usually releases updated profiles for games as time goes on, usually improving performance slowly. I expect that'll happen for Mortal Kombat X as well, but it might not be for a bit.

The window boxing settings decides if you will see black bars during the match. The black bars appear if the ratio of the selected resolution doesn't match the native ratio of your monitor.

I'm pretty sure there isn't 1600x900 but I'll check again for like the 1000th time. I might reinstall the game overnight if I still don't see it.

Thanks man.

Seems like there are still major issues with MK X on PC, sucks to hear.
Won't be touching it till it's fixed. Can't even change my buttons.

If you started the game before all the DLC packs were installed, I suspect that's why. Seems to be a common theme for those who crash at trying to remap.

Try a clean install, I was able to remap without issue, and have done so several times.

I installed the game before all the DLC packs were out, but didn't try anything when I read about the issues.
When all the DLC packs were available, I downloaded all of them before booting up the game.

Haven't tried anything, waiting for a patch to fix that issue.
But I have tried it out to see how it plays and have another issue.
Some matches are fine, getting constant 60 fps regardless of what happens. Other matches on the same stage I'm getting drops to 40 that I just can't explain, changing my settings has no impact on this issue.

My PC can handle it:
- Intel i5 2500k
- AMD 280x
- 8GB Ram

is there port forwarding for PC steam as well? will research but to those that does it, does it improve generally?

Again, an AMD card. I'm extremely certain the game was optimized poorly for them, but it's just a theory of mine.

All you can do at the moment would be to reach out and at least report the issue to WB Support.

You and I have almost the same PC, but my gpu is a 290. Try turning off ambient occlusion and setting particle density to very low. I get 60fps even on jungle this way, with all other settings maxed. Heed this warning though:

THE MEMORY LEAK IS REAL. The game will start off at 60fps for a while, and slowly drop more and more. Just yesterday I was playing for a long while, and my OS kicked me to my desktop and told me that I had to close MKX because I was running out of memory. It is IMPERATIVE that you close and reopen MKX every once in a while just to flush it out.

I checked for the 3000th time, there's no 1600x900 option, which is super weird. I guess I'll have to reinstall the game.

Also the memory leak problem the people are mentioning above is extremely annoying. I get that warning from windows every few minutes and of course it switches to it out of the game, and with the dumb alt+tab issues with this game sometimes I just can't get back in the game after I get that warning... They need to fix this shit ASAP.

The really dumb part is that windows tells me there's memory shortage while my RAM consumption doesn't even reach 50% :S

I can play on the PS4 in the meantime, I'll just wait till a few patches have been released before I play people on the PC.

Odd. Perhaps your monitor doesn't support that resolution? Is it available in Windows Display Settings?

For the memory leak, that's also so weird. I've played the game for 3 hours straight before, and no problem. No crash, no message, no drop back to desk top.

It's just so odd because our systems are so similar. I'm assuming you close pretty much everything else in the background?

The resolution is available in the windows settings, it's also available in the other games I play including MK9 and Injustice.

I'll just reinstall the game and hope for the best.

@tylerlansdown Shouldn't we be hearing from the community specialist at this point?

This port has serious issues and NRS and everyone involved seem dead silent since the 14th. A lot of the PC fans who bought MKX also supported the PC versions of MK9 and Injustice - I'm sure no one appreciates what's happening here. Borderline unplayable, since who wants to play a fighter at less than 60 fps :(
