Let's talk: MKX on PC

Workaround for the button mapping crashing:

1. Close MKX completely.
2. Unplug your keyboard.
3. Plug in your pad (if it isn't already).
4. Start MKX and re-map your buttons.
5. Close MKX.
6. Plug your keyboard back in.

You are good to go from now on. Apparently the crashing happens whenever two controllers are plugged in.
I had to also unplug my mouse in order for this to work. Just a heads up for anyone else!

Hey all,

So I waited 23H 30M post-launch, and then tried installing the game. What I did was I right clicked on Mortal Kombat X in my Steam Library and went to check the DLC. All the packs where there, Goro and packs 1 through 29, so I checked off all to install. Went back to my Library, right clicked on the game and clicked on Install.

It downloaded the 3GB base file and then started downloading all the DLC packs. I did not start the game after it installed the base file, I simply waited for it to fully install everything, all "DLC" first. Total install time was about 1H 10M for me. I then exited Steam and rebooted my system. Started Steam and launched the game.

Everything I've tried so far is working. I could remap my Controller (Hori Gempad EX) without issue first time. I could adjust settings, etc. I've done the Tutorial twice, Fatality training, tinkered briefly in Practice Mode, and I've played Story Mode up until Chapter 6 right now.

The only issue I'm having is some frame rate issues, but I find these are mainly at the start of matches and mostly smoothen out after several seconds.

So a few things:

- I'm 99.9% certain the streaming install is fundamentally broken, and many problems occur by starting the game before all the DLC packs are installed. If you're still experiencing lots of issues, an uninstall, and clean install might help. Don't start the game before everything installs!

- I think some of the framerate issues I'm having, mainly at the start of matches, are due to things still loading. I can usually hear my HDD being accessed while this is going on. I find load times seem to be quick, and as we all know the character outros at the Character Select screen are missing in the PC version at the moment; I suspect the game is loading too quickly and could actually benefit from longer load times, but of course we can't change this.
- From reports I'm seeing, it seems that AMD video cards are having more and larger frame rate issues with the game; nVidia cards seem to be handling it far better for some reason. This is simply a trend I've been noticing from people posting here and elsewhere.

I'm going to play through Story Mode completely, since I'm not concerned about playing well here, and then I'll be going to Practice or Single matches and toying with Video Settings to see if I can improve frame rate.

Note GeForce Experience detects and has a profile for the game with the latest drivers released this past Monday, the Grand Theft Auto V ones. I Optimize the settings, but still have the frame rate issues. I run my PC at 1920x1080 resolution, however GeForce Experience recommends I play Mortal Kombat X at 1600x900. Optimal settings does not seem to be able to force the resolution change in-game. When I manually change the resolution in-game, it does not display 1600x900 in full screen, but oddly there's a "black box" around the image, so both letter and pillar boxing.

Does anyone know how to change this from in-game? I do have the option properly set for Full Screen as opposed to Windowed. I have not tried changing my PC's default display to 1600x900, which could be a workaround that I'll try later.

Also, does anyone know how to disable vsync in-game, as I can't find the option? When I get to tinkering with settings, I'll also try removing FOV and a few other options others have suggested a few pages back in this thread, though GeForce Experience says those are fine to have enabled under Optimal Settings.

Note my system specs are:

- Intel Core i5-4440 @3.10 GHz
- 8 GB Ram
- GeForce GTX 750 Ti
- Windows 8.1

Also note I have not tried online or Faction Towers/Wars, which I've heard still have lots of issues.

FIGHTAN GAHMS!!!
tried playing this by borrowing a friends steam account to see how well itd run on my modest rig (needs a newer graphics card since a 7770 doesnt exactly do as much as it used to anymore) and for the most part, it runs ok. i havent tried messing with controls or anything since my fightpad default works well enough for me (may change where the block button is though). My issue is when it comes to sky temple, marketplace, and Kove it really starts eating up the framerate. ive tried messing with some settings (havent gone too far into doing windowed or res settings yet) but for the most part its just looking like piss poor optimization job to me. i imagine updates will fix it, but if your planning on playing it at a proper framerate with all the stages, id wait for a fix.

For those of you using a standard 6/8 button stick, what are you using for block? I couldn't find anything comfortable so I'm using the fightpad and I'm really enjoying using it.

Regarding the 1600*900 resolution not showing fullscreen, that may be a monitor setting on the actual device. You should have scaling enabled on your monitor, if it only displays the 'native' resolution it won't show up as fullscreen.

I have not found a way to disable vsync even when forcing it off through the drivers, nor could I find this in the config anywhere. The game seems to cap at 30 fps in menus and 60 fps in-game. That might be a requirement for the game engine and could force online desync issues if you're not running at the same framerate as others, so I can see why it's left the way it is. I just wish I could maintain a solid 60 fps in all stages!

Omg this is the first thing I will do when I get home. I can't tell you how annoying it has been to have release check forced upon me these last few days. I don't even know why it is an option to have it on. It's like having an option in button mapping that says "Constantly Fuck Up Your Inputs: ON"

Hey all,
Optimal settings does not seem to be able to force the resolution change in-game.

I can get the game running absolutely fine when I drop the res to 720p, but the image was misaligned with my screen.

Echoing what @reptar said above,I had to actually change the settings on the TV (or monitor) itself There was an auto scan option where it naturally found and honed in on the new resolution. So maybe try applying the 1600*900 res, then dig about with your monitor/TV controls, to find an auto adjust or similar option, this may get you a handshake between the two.
Good luck, hope it works out for you.

In other news, played some more online tonight, latency was absolutely fine within my territory, but I have developed a bug where exiting any Room/Lobby causes the game to crash to desktop :/

Thanks for the reply man, I'm just about to tinker with my settings :).

Earlier, I changed it to 1600x900 in-game, and it seems my frame rate issues have disappeared with my limited tests (practice room). GeForce Experience also now says my settings are "Optimized."

It does seem my frame rate issues were indeed things still "loading" after the match started.

I have "pillarbox" bars though, so I want to try and fix that, similar to the boxing I mentioned earlier. I'm going to try a few things in-game, and if that doesn't work, for laughs, I'll set my PC's resolution to 1600x900 and see if that helps.

Hello,

I would like to create a compendium of known and unknown issues with the game on Steam.

To be perfectly clear, the purpose of this thread is to identify known/unknown bugs and issues with the game and have Netherrealm/HVS take a look at the issues at hand, and fix potential bugs/crashes in the game code.

The ideal way that these should be submitted is as follows:

CPU:
Operating System:
Graphics Card (along with driver revision):
Description of issue: (Please describe the issue as much as possible, this helps HVS find and fix issues with the game)
Pastebin Link: (due to character and link formatting in TYM forums, any posting of dxdiag files will need to go into pastebin)

Also, if you have a constructive suggestion to improve game performance/netcode, by all means post it! Also, DxDiag files need to be posted, that way HVS and Netherrealm can see if there's a issue specific to one thing or all :)

Example Report:
CPU: AMD FX-8350
Operating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 960 w/GeForce 350.88 WHQL drivers
Issue: Game crashes upon loading Training Room level
Pastebin: http://www.pastebin.com/urascrub

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
Absolutely minimal everything is STILL nigh unplayable in many stages on PC for me. 12 GB ram, windows 7 64 bit, Radeon 6800 series.

Particles 0%
low textures
low shadows
no ambient occlusion
no anti alias
no bloom

no nothing.

Chugs with terrible framerate on
Sky temple
Dead woods
market
all actually.

To date I have never finished the basic Raiden combo that ends in teleport as a string and seen the teleport. It just freezes and I'm on the other side of the opponent and they have already recovered. I'm dropping frames like they didn't exist. Be a great game if it wasn't permanently frame dropping to the point of unplayability.

Just a general FYI (and not as a complete shitpost either),

I put up a thread in Tech Talk here to document issues like the button mapping crash documented above. Please put that information in there :)

also, I'll be probably picking up MKX on PC tomorrow (provided my wife gives the okay). Picking up from CD-Keys online

Have you tried lowering the game's resolution? That's what did it for me. Dropped from 1920x1080 to 1600x900, every other setting is maxed. Game still looks gorgeous and is thus far running great.

Does anyone have any tips on how I might be able to fix the terrible lag Im having? My machine is more than capable but Ive still dropped the settings, Ive heard that can cause problems?(Is this true?)

My speedtest shows 44ms to New York servers and 101ms to California. 50down/10up. I was just in the New York Room and literally everyone has a gray bar for me.

I got it running at 720p. Guess I'll go lower but DAMN this is not even close to respectable porting if I got to do all this.

i play on pc if you are from eu add me , i have a lot of mates playing on pc in eu. in mk9 there was a community that wasnt that huge like on x box , but it was released very late on pc. this time the pc version is released at the same time and the community will be enough i think. hope they improve the requirements still a bit as far as i know it was very popular in russia where grafic cars are expencive. ot feels like the pc version can be better optimized on some maps and in the character select

they should make this version more attractive with releasing modtools and stuff aswell

@ScreamQueen You were right, setting on my monitor. Now the image fills the screen proper and the game runs silky smooth!
Glad to hear it. Props to reptar too, who also suggested the idea.

I'm no PC expert, Jeebus, FAR from it, but I strongly suggest to everyone having performance issues that you consider trying the following technique. It worked for me and clearly for Juxtapose:

Set the in-game video options to a lower res, like 720p or similar and set Fullscreen mode.
Apply this setting (the picture may appear half of the screen, or surrounded by black bars).
Whilst this setting is applied, look for an option on your actual TV or Monitor itself to "Auto Adjust" or "Auto Scan" or something similar, and activate it.

This should hopefully realign the image correctly, fullscreen, and should drastically improve your FPS performance (Though you may still have to tinker with shadows/particles and such.)

It's not 1080p, which we'd all love, but its more than acceptable, and should hopefully work for you until any kind of fix shows up..if ever.
Give it a try, but its no guarantee of anything, as I said, I'm no expert :)

OOI, I'm running an i5 with a GTX660 and 8GB, so hardly a supah computah.

For some reason I show up with 3 Green Bars but everyone else is always Gray. Is this happening with anyone else? If anyone can respond that is playing the PC version I shall appreciate it!

It's a bug, confirmed somewhere already. Have the same thing. Oddly enough sometimes in ranked it shows me bars correctly.

Braindead

I want Kronika to step on my face
I run it on max settings and don't get any drops. X-ray and menus go to 30 but that's normal.
i7 3.2 960
Geforce gtx 770
6 gigs ram
cheap hard drive.
HOW?!
I have i7 4700 @2.4 GHz
Geforce GTX 770
8 GB RAM

And I have to run the game at fucking 1366x768 and all settings set to off to get a solid 60 fps!

At 1920 x 1080 only training room runs at 60 fps and all other stages drop to like 45 fps.

This games needs an optimization patch like NOW!!!

Maaaaan... Ive literally spent the last 3 hours researching and trying to fix a problem that doesnt even exist? Thanks for the heads up brother!
