So basically like... the more and more I play around the more and more this really seems to be as useless as it first seemed. As fun as the theoretical dmg you can get the reality is that it basically adds 3-15% dmg in exchange for taking 10% yourself. I say up to 15% but in reality you will struggle to match 10% even. And it's so slow that it's hard to even bring out without being punished anyway.
Crystal totem in comparison is utterly fantastic, as you typically will net more damage with far less risk at far faster speed.
What I'm curious about is what people feel could be changed that might actually fix this or make it a viable usable move...
- Reduce self damage to 5%?
- Make it 36 frames or faster?
- Change the dmg boost type to be time based or with more chip on block?
- Give lifesteal for the bonus dmg dealt?
- Give dmg reduction?
Data:
-The buff occurs instantly (0 frames) so you will get the effect for sure if it is activated (i.e. not interruptible)
-63 frames of recovery
-Does 10% self dmg
-Grants 50% bonus dmg on next three hits. While this can reach 21% or more dmg in practice your going to get closer to 8-9% bonus dmg if they don't block and 1-4% if they do.
-This is a direct increase of the normal dmg numbers so is fully reduced by blocking and by string reduction
