Well since I'm here my first order of business on Tuesday is to choose ONE character for now. I usually follow a "rule of two" in fighters. A main and a secondary. However in an effort to get further than I've ever made it in a FG (upper tier of mid level play) I think focusing on just one (besides there are 3 variations in this game) character would benefit. Once I become a true threat I can then indulge a secondary. That said its hard to choose. I have 5 interests, two of which will be DLC. So off the line I need to choose one of the following:
Scorpion(my 20+ year main...no joke)
Cassie(REALLY like the character overall)
Mileena(first time ever but I like some of her variations)

Then there jason and predator. Did you guys select a main already or will you be testing around for one? I'll let you know what I choose following some experimenting.

I always refrain from choosing a main before release, though historically I've always favored certain characters over others. As a former Shang Tsung main, I'm free to wait and see this time around. I will get a feel for every character, and anticipate my first lab work will be with:

1. Imposter Shinnok (Shang Tsung)
2. Pumped Up Jax
3. Hi Tech Jacqui

If I have decent success with any of them in these variants, I suspect they will be my "main," and I'll lab their other variants for MU purposes. But, again, I'm really hesitant to speculate that far in the future. Goro, Kotal, Liu, Ferra/Torr, Erron Black, Raiden, Quan Chi & Kano are all kombatants who I see real promise with, and then there is DLC.

Man. Choosing a main in MKX is tougher than I thought now that I'm playing it.
So far I am writing down and taking into account things such as what feels comfy as well as number of variations I'm interested in for each potential main character. So far I've got:
Scorpion: 2
Inferno and hellfire (I actually like inferno better than hellfire atm)
Cassie: 1
Hollywood
Mileena: 1
Ethereal
(Surprisingly) Kitana: 2
Mournful and royal storm.
So far it looks like I might choose scorpion or Kitana as a main, seeing as how to master them it's wise to learn all variations over time and I like 2/3 of theirs each. I will then wait to choose a secondary until after Jason/predator are released and do the process again.
All this is mixed with my typical choosing method (aesthetics, character design, character loyalty, my own interest in their personality, their story etc) Kitana is actually a lot "darker" now..

That's not a bad way to do it, I may do the same. Jax & Jacqui are out for me. Shinnok is in, but still a work in progress. Goro has been fun, but my success has been minimal.

I am, however, in love with Blood God Kotal. I need to mess with his variations a bit more, but I'm having extremely dominate games. His 11f2 into air-grab strings hits so damn hard, and the totem cycle is just sick. I mean, I'm catching kids for 43-46% combos regularly.

I haven't played actual matches yet and likely won't until Friday/Saturday (have a system I learn by) it'll be lab time until then. That said it was a really close race and took nearly a full day to decide between scorpion and Kitana. Ultimately scorpion won out. Ironically I'm starting with his inferno style first as out the gate using it I liked it more than hellfire. However I've found a good use for ninjutsu already against sub zeros ice clones....


In any event...now it begins. First tournament is next Saturday. Time to start repping Edenia

Hell yea buddy. The only online matches I've done are random player matches nonranked and King of the Hill, so the quality of the kombatants has been low. I still need work on a few low mix-up strings, learn to EX wake-up the Kotal Parry, and get comfortable with the new run mechanic. For whatever reason my dash response time has been really slow...can't tell if it's the netcode or general exhaustion.

Scorpion's variations are all pretty badass. I played against a Ninjitsu Scorpion who bodied me one round out of nowhere with footsie mix-ups. He has so many options.

Ninjitsu was actually me least favorite variant. Then I was all about hellfire until I played the game and noticed I was using inferno a ton so I'm starting with that one. That said incidentally while playing story mode and getting to scorpion I already found that Ninjitsu wrecks Sub-Zero's Ice clones because I can hit him THROUGH them without getting frozen. Seems that'll prove useful once I get to studying matchups.
