Hitstun and hit confirming

Right now I'm in the lab with Ermac experimenting with his b3 and his f4. My issue is that I want to hit confirm the overhead or low on hit while they are in hitstun to cancel into the lift to extend juggle/combo.

i hit confirm and when doing the special cancel it refuses to come out. The only way I can get it to come out is committing to the full string before even confirming if it hits or not. So it goes like b3~lift or f4~lift. Is that how this game works, or is it an input or hitstun glitch?

I find it odd that you have to commit to full strings and or specials before even hit confirming? Doesn't strike me as something intentional.

You cannot hitconfirm a single hit into a cancel, it's not doable. And yes in this game more often than not you have to simply commit. There are some multi hitting strings where you can cancel on the 2nd/3rd hit. If you see the first hit of the string connect you input the special, otherwise you don't.

In other 2D games you also don't really confirm a single attack into a special...though there are rare exceptions.

I don't know anything about Ermac, but can't he do other stuff after a B3 and F4, another attack/strring before cancelling into a special immediately.
 
Thanks. The reason I was attempting that is because I noticed you can't chain/link normals in this game to form a combo. I

Kind of. Some things you do in combos are technically links, but if you need cancels, you must buffer special into previous move's startup.
