NRS, Guilty Gear, and KI, the holy trinity
All of my favorite characters are in so i have no reason to complain, i like all the new characters, and everyones seems as though they belong in the roster. And i really dont mind the whole family feud thing, it could make for a good story and some really kickass dialogues. I personally think it is an awesome roster, but then again i got all the characters i wanted in the game so i guess that would be a given that i really like the cast

I actually enjoy the roster, it's very diverse plus they're moving on with the series so they have to bring in a new generation of characters. To me, the overall theme of the game is very reminiscent of MK3 especially with the new characters.

Breaking down what aspects I think people identify with character art design & selection.

1. Cultural Inspiration: A key point. This has to with how much or little designers decide branch out into different real world or even sci-fi cultures, and how they mix everything for their games universe.

2. Returning Characters: How people felt about a specific characters traits in prior games and how they feel about their return. This would even include redesign.

3. Originality: Obviously something like this is very subjective. I think this has much to with the implementation of ideas not rarely seen, or how far it deviates from one character design to the next. This can be in regards to the visual portion such as character armor & weapons, or more of the story elements.

4. Personal projection: What ideas folks want to see for their dream game & the indirect feedback they can't put forth into an established IP.

I have for the most part, gone back and forth in my mind trying to decide how well of a universe MK has made for itself with each iteration. Some being better than others. Personally, I've always liked more of the original oriental feel for the game. But ultimately, you can never make everyone happy and thus you should just meditate on what appeals to you.

It's just weird to me that they have all the OG characters except Shang Tsung, who is one of the more unique characters from the originals. Also there are some confusing choices such as having THREE robots last game then deciding to have none this game, and leaving out characters that could have added more variety like Smoke, Noob, Fujin, Havik, etc. But not everyone can make the cut and if you really look at the new guys you will find that each of them are badass in their own way and fit in, honestly.

It's good to see some classic characters and fan favorites, but they have to start making new characters or it really will just be the same game being made over and over again. I'm sure no one wants the series to become stagnant.

I think what made MK so good in the first place was the original oriental-story. The original MK storyline of a tournament, worked best (until about MK3).
