Anyone Else Hesitant About This?

Just pick a fun character to play for the next 4 years. When the next game comes out and your favorite character doesn´t make the cut, you can write a 2 meters long post on this forum or start a podcast just to bitch about it! That´s what everybody seems to be doing this days anyway.

BLAK FELOW
I don't know about you guys, but of the new characters, I am EXTREMELY hesitant to main any of them because who knows if they will make into the next game. I really don't want to put a lot of time into a character, only to have them not show up again. I see how the people who mained lost characters feel. It sucks to put time into a character and then lose them and have to learn another character.
Interesting point.. Never thought about it that way

Its Game Over, Man
Not really. My go-to character since MK1 has been Johnny Cage, and well, you can imagine how that's gone for me over the years, seeing how he's been killed more than every other character. I'm surprised that he didn't get killed off prior to this game.

What kind of logic is not using your favourite character because they might not be in the next game? The reason the roster changed so much every game because majority of the new characters from MK4 and onward were not popular with fans while staples like Scorpion, Sub Zero, Liu Kang, Johnny, Sonya, Kitana, Kung Lao have appeared in nearly every MK game. If they were absent in one game they'd quickly be in the next installment because of the demand. Scoprion and Sub Zero in particular will always be in the new games because they're the Ryu and Ken of Mortal Kombat, despite not necessarily being the main characters in any of the games for the most part. If you want to see Cassie, Kotal, Takeda, D'Vorah or any of the newcomers in MKXI, PLAY THEM. Show Ed Boon that you love them and want them to be in the next game. It's as simple as that.

A prop on the stage of life.
@Bildslash already said what needed to be said.

The character might not make it but you can bet their silly ass full screen teleporting, shadow cloning, giant net, etc. moves will make it to future installments through other characters.

Ah, screw it. Takeda looks cool so I'll see about maining him. There are so many kombatants that I'm interested in that it's not even funny. There are no characters that no one really uses like Sheeva or Sindel. I may even try to main Jason. Maybe he has a variation where he gets an assist from his mom.

Alone is where to find me.
It's not so much about putting time into a character and then losing it. Characters play quite differently from one game to another. People just tend to get mentally attached to characters, and of course they have their favorites. If you're scared of that then yeah, that could be a problem. But learning any character can't be a waste of time because even if that character makes the next game you'd still have to learn it all over again anyway. Specials carry over but strings, combos, pokes and the entire feel changes.

Saint Op Omen

Savagely beating his super-ego with his id...
are you aware you can end sentences with single periods alone and not ellipses?
Nope... The way I have to do things (hands have nerve damage so I mostly use speech to text) and habit make this a lot easier for me... Sorry if it bugs you...

"You won't winter over?" Who the fuck wrote that?
Yeah, I see what some of you mean, but still, it would suck to lose a character you play. Luckily for me, I didn't have a main in MK9, I played multiple characters and the closest main for me would maybe be Kung Lao. I did play Kabal but I knew he likely wouldn't make it due to people complaining about him at tournaments and his story purpose. I really like how Kenshi and Takeda are looking. There are so many that I'm interested in. Ugh, they sure have made the decision to choose a main a little harder this time around. I'm getting back into MK after having not played it in years so my combo game is a little weak now. If any other noobs want to spar, add me. I'm on PS4 and will be on Xbox One shortly.
Kabal......... :(

Fabled Villain
It's funny, I'm actually the exact opposite. I derive tremendous pride and enjoyment from playing different characters in every game. I love the idea of playing a character I have never played before. It excites me.

I played Yoda and Rock in Soul Calibur 4, I mean I knew Yoda wouldn't be back but man it hurt me not seeing Rock in SC5
